“This was a mutual relationship, mutual on all levels;” The Cautionary Tale of Monica Lewinsky

That is a particularly deluded line from this profile in the Daily Mail talking about Monica Lewinsky’s life, more than a decade after…  um… you know:

When Clinton’s memoir My Life came out in 2004, Miss Lewinsky spoke of her upset at its contents to the Daily Mail, saying rather than being a physical fling, it was a mutual relationship.

‘He could have made it right with the book, but he hasn’t. He is a revisionist of history. He has lied.

Bill Clinton?  Lied?  You’re kidding… Sadly, it goes on:

‘I really didn’t expect him to go into detail about our relationship’, she added. ‘But if he had and he’d done it honestly, I wouldn’t have minded.’

She believed he made it sound like the dalliance came only at her initiative and was purely physical.

‘He talked about it as though I had laid it all out there for the taking. I was the buffet and he just couldn’t resist the dessert.’

Clinton wrote that his affair with Monica revealed ‘the darkest part of my inner life’ and led to his temporary banishment from the White House bedroom.

He said on CBS’ 60 Minutes that he became involved with Lewinsky ‘for the worst possible reason. Just because I could.’

But according to Lewinsky at the time, ‘That’s not how it was. This was a mutual relationship, mutual on all levels, right from the way it started and all the way through.’

No, see Monica, you know that sex act you did for him, which was almost the exclusive way you two interacted sexually?  You know, the one we now call a “Lewinsky?”  That is the very opposite of mutuality.  You gave him pleasure and he gave you very little in return.  He was a selfish manchild, to be blunt.  And that bit about having that affair with you because he could, that was him actually telling something like the truth.  He used you because you let him, and even years after the fact, you don’t even understand that he used you.

But the real point isn’t to berate her.  Truthfully I hope she does manage to find happiness.  But for all the girls who actually crazily idolize this sort of thing, read the whole thing.  Read how empty her life has become and take it as the cautionary tale it should be.

Seriously, girls, you have to have more respect for yourself than to be that kind of woman.  I’m not saying you should be a nun, but to give your bodies away because someone is powerful or famous is just stupid; you just transform yourself into an object to be used.

  1. Bill Clinton is almost as white trash as a Kennedy I think

  2. Monica’s life is drab and empty because she’s fat and stupid, not because she was honkin’ Slick Willy’s horn.

  3. I feel sorry for her. She ruined her life, which probably was full of potential.

She acted like a kid. But in her defense, she WAS basically a kid. She was barely out of high school. The leader of the free world was able to enamor her and that’s so trashy.

It amazes me that any feminists supported Bill Clinton after this came out, but he was a known womanizer. He saw Monica as a place to put his penis, rather than a young student learning about government to advance her career. The damage done to her likely means nothing to Bill Clinton. He got what he wanted. He’s just sorry he got caught lying to the American people about it.

Monica’s choices also ruined the internship program for the White House. They reduced the program down to a single intern who had practically no access to the President. Sad, but we apparently can’t trust our presidents to be responsible.

It’s pretty disturbing, when you think about it.

Anyway, I can’t summon any anger to Monica, who paid for her mistake severely. Bill Clinton paid too, but he’s forever beloved as the ideal democrat president. He’s made out very nicely.

I think Aaron is right to use her as a cautionary tale. DC is full of young ladies fawning for powerful men. Just a fact of life, I guess. Hardly a partisan one, in my opinion.

Maybe. She isn’t suffering from the results of other folks’ choices, just her own, and there are many other causes deserving our pity.

But I think she probably would be a lot happier had she interned for Bush.

  5. I did not have sexual relations with that women.-Bill Clinton

  8. Her description of the affair shows how immature she still is. She doesn’t see it, even after all these years.

    Mike K (8f3f19)

  9. You’re right, Mike. I wonder how many women thought Bill was their soul mate.

It should have been clear to them he had pulled that with a horde of other bimbos. It should have occurred to Monica at this point.

I grant she thought it was more than physical. To her. She was exploited because very young ladies are exploitable that way, and Bill Clinton knew that was the easiest way to get some sex from his staff.

    Dustin (b2fb78)

  10. Bill Clinton is a demented ogre.

  11. I followed the esteemed Mr Worthing’s link, and read the article. It noted that she was embarrassed at an outing at a restaurant where gawkers recognized her and started making crude jokes. Well, if she had any fornicating sense, she’d change her looks: she’s got the same hairstyle and same hair color as was splashed all over the television, and she keeps making these occasional forays into interviews. If she wants privacy, then she should try to actually be private.

She can’t turn back the clock, and her name will always be the butt of jokes; that’s the price you pay sometimes for being stupid with famous people. But she doesn’t seem to be doing much to disassociate herself from her past.

  14. Sadly, I think the ones who might actually benefit from reading her caustionary tale are precisely the ones least likely to read it and, if they did, be also the least likely to believe it applied to their own very, very special case.

    jim2 (2328fe)

  15. That’s not how it was. This was a mutual relationship

It depends on what the meaning of “was” was.

(OK, it doesn’t really. But I couldn’t resist.)

    Mitch (341ca0)

  16. Resist we much, Mitch.

No, not really. That was funny.

    Dustin (b2fb78)

  17. Look, if you don’t want to be mocked as having been a President’s plaything, should probably shouldn’t have slutted herself out to start with.

I have zero sympathy for the idiot, and if I say her in public, I would probably walk up to her and start making jokes.

“So, L… Blown any politicians lately?”

“Hey, I have an internship position available, but it does have uniform requirements… *hands her some kneepads*”

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  18. Because you’re perfect, Scott?

I think she’s paid enough. Yes, she acted like an idiotic kid, and as I said, that’s partly because she was a kid.

No need rubbing it in decades later. I wasn’t perfect when I was her age. I just managed to stay out of the headlines 99% of the time.

    Dustin (b2fb78)

  19. In all seriousness, what I expected her to say at 38 was something like this: “On the one hand, I was an adult and sure thought I was going after what I wanted. On the other hand, no one is as mature at 21 as she thinks — and Bill Clinton bloody well knew it. Did he use me? You bet your ass he did. And I let him do it, fool that I was.”

Instead, we have this naive-as-ever, “We had a relationship!!!!1!” nonsense. It’s so sad.

    Mitch (341ca0)

  20. Part of me wants to feel bad for her. In all the PC nonsense of the women’s movement they never take into account that many (not all) men are dogs when it comes to sex. Get the sense without a father figure growing up ina borken home she never was taught that. And some powerful men like Clinton can smell that insecurity-like a dog.

    Bugg (9e308e)

  21. In Scott’s defense, it’s hard not to want to mock her a little bit for being deluded years later about what happened.

But still, come on. The democrat party went to war against her. They were out in force calling her a deranged stalker, and she never got better than ‘floozy intern slut’. It’s playing into the hands of the left here. She has paid more than her fair share, in my opinion.

    Dustin (b2fb78)

  22. Geez, MOnica’s 38?
How time flies when you’re on your knees.

  23. But still, come on. The democrat party went to war against her. They were out in force calling her a deranged stalker, and she never got better than ‘floozy intern slut’. It’s playing into the hands of the left here. She has paid more than her fair share, in my opinion.

And yet she still thinks it was some sort of equal relationship.

Built upon, I’m sure, the vast respect Bill Clinton had for a very young intern. I’ll bet he considered her opinion very important when it can to economic policy and foreign relations…

The girl is a moron, and remains deluded to this day.

My ability to give two f*cks about whether I’m “going to far” broke somewhere around the 5-year mark for her delusion.

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  24. No, see Monica, you know that sex act you did for him, which was almost the exclusive way you two interacted sexually? You know, the one we now call a “Lewinsky?” That is the very opposite of mutuality. You gave him pleasure and he gave you very little in return.

Um, Aaron, have you ever tried it? If not, how do you know how much or how little pleasure she got out of it? Actually, even if you have tried it and didn’t like it, that just means that had you been in her position you would have been exploited; but then if you didn’t like it you would never have been in her position. The fallacy that such an act is inherently not pleasurable for the active participant, and therefore the passive participant must necessarily be exploiting him/her, falls apart the moment you examine it.

    Milhouse (9a4c23)

  25. This quote says it all:

‘The publicity over her affair with Clinton ruined her chances of ever finding a decent guy.’

There’s also the problem that she still loves Bill Clinton.

I remember that quote from 2004. Of course women think it means more to men than it does, but he probably also talked to her, and praised her, and also he really initiated it, that was missing from the book.

    Sammy Finkelman (d3daeb)

  26. I’ll bet he considered her opinion very important when it can to economic policy and foreign relations…

Heh. I can only imagine what kind of fake respect he gave these girls. I’m sure he pretended to.

I also suspect some of these bimbos (I imagine there were dozens of them) expected this would greatly assist their careers.

I just can’t summon hostility for someone who really is suffering.

Dana raises a point. Why isn’t she changing up her appearance? Maybe I’m totally mistaken, and she wants this attention?

I usually am the first to judge folks, but Monica just doesn’t rate.

    Dustin (b2fb78)

  27. There’s no reason the relationship couldn’t have been “mutual on all levels”, as she thought it was. Clearly he led her to believe that it was, and the fact is that such things do happen. Older men really do fall for younger women and fall genuinely in love with them, and leave their families for them, and sometimes even ruin their careers for them. This just didn’t happen to be such a case. If Lewinsky still thinks the relationship really was mutual then she doesn’t understand what the word “mutual” means. The only person in a position to know whether he really felt what he told her he did is him, and he says he didn’t. Maybe he’s lying, but how cam anybody, including her, know?

    Milhouse (9a4c23)

  28. If she’s still doing the “it was a relationship” self delusion at 38, I can see why she’s having issues finding another “relationship”.

Monica- grow the f up. You’re not the first person to be used, you certainly won’t be the last- either learn from the experience, or…continue to make yourself a perpetual victim.

  35. that is rank speculation

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  36. Is she waiting for Hillary to die, I wonder? Does Bill ever contact her in any way do you think? She’s financially broke but she has never written any thing close to a tell-all as far as I know. She’s never posed for playboy or done a reality show although I bet she’s been asked dozens of times. It is kind of sad. She is delusional but she is obviously hooked on Bill– and is protecting their relationship and saving herself for him I think.

    elissa (93c1a6)

  37. I don’t think their relationship was as one way as you are portraying it. I seem to recall from the Starr report that Clinton kissed her ass.

I think she’s paid enough. Yes, she acted like an idiotic kid, and as I said, that’s partly because she was a kid.

If she truly is an adult in 2011, then she’s still as gullible and blind today as when Clinton was in the White House. She reportedly has said she continues to have the hubba-hubba for Bubba and said she’d take him back in a second if he and Hilary ever split.

If that’s accurate, then Monica is kind of a paradigm of the typical liberal. No matter how such a person is tricked and played for a fool by the left, including by liberal politicians, he or she remains a sheeple of the Democrat Party and its hangers-on until the bitter end.

    Mark (411533)
