Is It Just Me . . .

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:48 pm

. . . or is there a disconnect between Rick Perry’s actual words in this video clip and the way those words are being characterized by MSNBC?

  1. Let me guess … MSNBC inserted their narrative in place of his actual message, and shockingly, they do not match, and Perry is a bigoted racist.

    JD (318f81)

  2. Even discounting their political bias (as if that were possible) it is entirely too likely that the Media would misrepresent a candidate’s position out of simple incompetence.

  3. the propaganda slut is scared scared scared because Barack Obama is about to get pepper-sprayed by an electorate what is fed up with his rapey ways

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  4. MSNBC is just advancing the narrative that Perry is an extremist. It is a continuation of their distortion of reality. Nothing to see here.

    daleyrocks (bf33e9)

  5. Hey, here’s an idea. Maybe Perry should start making all his comments and photo ops out on a golf course! The media tends to overlook stuff and excuse stuff there.

  6. Out “Foxed” by MSNBC.

    Lovin it!

    Spartacvs (4576a2)

  7. Go eff yourself SpartacBS.

    DohBiden (d54602)

  8. Spartacvs approves of overt lying. Shocka. That it is infesting this thread was as predictable as the sun rising.

    JD (318f81)

  9. Game on!

The base has read the menu and ordered red meat. Something tells me there’s going to be a serious case of indigestion among the wider electorate come the general.

    Spartacvs (4576a2)

  10. Did y’all notice Spurty’s radio silence on the threads discussing his buddy Biden’s unfortunate comments about the One Child policy? The comments that the WH immediately but unsuccessfully tried to “explain” and distance themselves from? Yeah, Spurty didn’t have a thing to say about any of that, or even attempt a defense for the idiocy of his adored ones. He only ever comes around to spike balls at the other side and repeat stupid stuff that he borrows from leftist blog chatter.

    elissa (4cbb30)

  11. Wow, the left is scared to death of Rick Perry.

It’s so early too, and they are so desperate that they have already elevated him to Obama’s level.

Sure, to most here, he’s well above Obama’s level, but to the low info folks out there, they have made a serious miscalculation. The longer people compare Perry to his detractors or Obama, the better.

    —-

Elissa, there’s a lot of silence from the lefties about a great many things lately. It’s very telling. But first, let’s see if Obama calls for honesty and civility from his cohorts smearing Perry. I shall commence holding my breath.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  12. I can’t police all your threads elissa and I draw the line at participating in some of the nuttier ones, which definitely includes anything touching on the subject of abortion.

You must be joking. I’ve been hoping against hope y’all would go for Bush III.

Since President Obama continued so many of President Bush’s policies, wouldn’t he be considered “Bush III”? That would make Perry “Bush IV” I guess.

    Stashiu3 (601b7d)

  15. MSNBC lies, Spartacus applauds. As usual.

    SPQR (26a762)

  16. Stashiu, so many? More like all Bush policies.

  17. SPQR – it appears to revel in it’s dishonesty and idiocy.

  18. After they cropped that video of a black man open carrying a rifle and handgun so they could try to portray him as a white racist Tea Partier, I think the bar has been pretty much lowered to the ground. I expect when we get closer to the election we will see the forged documents and leaked “rumors” come out.

  19. I’ve been hoping against hope y’all would go for Bush III.

    Comment by Spartacvs

    hahaha

As seems to be a trend, Stash and I think very similarly. What specifically about Bush didn’t you like? I bet almost all of it is stuff Obama has done.

The only difference is that Obama wasted in 2.5 years the sum Bush spent in 8. Which I admit is a huge difference. Perry will hopefully be better.

You’re scared of Perry and we both know it.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  20. Sir Stashiu SCORES!!! GOOOAAALLLLL!!

    Machinist (b6f7da)

  21. Stashiu – he only continued and/or expanded policies that he specifically ran against.

    JD (318f81)

  22. Dustin, good point about Obama elevating his opponents. He is so vain and thin skinned he can’t seem to help himself. Even a nobody like Joe the Plumber was raised way up by the Obama machine’s attacks.

    Machinist (b6f7da)

  23. No need for forged documents and leaked “rumors” Perry wrote a book remember? Two books actually.

More than enough to hang him in those.

    Spartacvs (4576a2)

  24. JD,
Was there anything he did not campaign both for and against?

    Machinist (b6f7da)

  25. After they cropped that video of a black man open carrying a rifle and handgun so they could try to portray him as a white racist Tea Partier,

Oh, I forgot about that. Why do these people care so much about the color of a man’s skin?

MSNBC has been horrible for a long time now.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  26. Spart, your link shows Perry is honest. You want to talk about gays instead of jobs. It won’t work.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  27. Integrity check, spartacvs. Ha. Lol. Please list all of the names you have commented under.

    JD (318f81)

  28. All this underscores that there isn’t much you can do about it when your controversial and extreme views are spelled out in black and white in books that boast your name in big letters on their covers.

Read it and weep Dustin, no need for any oppo research. It’s all right there in black & white. He may be the darling of the base right now, but come the general that stuff will come back to haunt. Mark my words.

    Spartacvs (4576a2)

  29. Read it and weep Dustin, no need for any oppo research

Sorry, mate. I read it and nodded instead of weeping.

If you want to call someone extreme for saying we choose to have sex, as a pathetic distraction from jobs and other Obama failures and lies, you will lose in 2012.

You know it. You can’t possibly hope to win an election this way.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  30. Are you sure Bill Ayers didn’t write those books?

    Pious Agnostic (6048a8)

  31. I’m sure Perry would like to pretend someone else wrote them Pious, but it is what it is.

    Spartacvs (4576a2)

  32. Sparticvs, is it your point that Americans are going to turn en masse against Perry because he expressed the uncontroversial thought that people choose who to have sex with?

Seriously? This is what you base your high spirits on?

    Then you’re an idiot.

    Pious Agnostic (6048a8)

  33. Then you’re an idiot.

    Comment by Pious Agnostic

I’m sure that’s true, but what his odd confidence really demonstrates is that he’s scared to death. It’s the ‘I will insist everything is OK no matter what’ hysterics of Baghdad Bob.

Perry will be constantly attacked and trapped with issues that have nothing to do with jobs. For example, that idiot who is mad at Perry because of some minor line or two in a textbook Perry didn’t choose.

They scoured the world for anything horrible about Perry, but they found no Vera Baker. They found no Rev Wright. They found a normal man saying normal things.

    Dustin (b7410e)

  34. Every damn day for another 15 damn months….

    Pious Agnostic (6048a8)

  35. Yep, Pious. It will only get worse, too. There’s so much at stake for the crooks and hard left.

  40. The ads they are running basically say they will pay anyone to claim they had sex with Perry.

    Yep. They are that desperate.

It also has the benefit of suggesting to the extremely stupid that Perry might be guilty of something like this. But hey, like Alec Baldwin, they are just asking questions here. No basis required.

But pretty little thing that she is, she’s sorta like a second string cheerleader hoping that if she says just the right thing the quarterback on the all Metrosexual football team will notice her and smile at her. Obama will disappoint her–as he’s disappointed just about everybody else.

    Comanche Voter (0e06a9)

  47. They care about jobs.

Well game over then, after all your man Bush II gave us the Bikini Graph. And now you want to nominate Bush III? bring it on!

    Spartacvs (2d9449)

  48. Bush II = 5% unemployment, Spartacus.

Obama failed to deliver on his jobs promises, and has offered an array of excuses. The fact is job creation stopped the day Obamacare was signed into law.

Perry has a record and understands the conditions needed for jobs.

Your best rebuttal is to link Rachel Maddow? Why would you even try if that’s the best you’ve got? It’s like me going to Kos and linking Rush to prove Obama is wrong.

Clearly you do not intend to persuade anyone. You’re just lashing out.

    Dustin (b7410e)

Oh my gosh! You mean there was a cyclical recession at the end of Bush’s term? What a horrible man he was, then. Everyone knows that when there’s a cyclical recession, it’s always the fault of a Republican President.

    You like graphs, chump?

    Here’s one for you

This is a graph of total employment since 2008. Obama has actually stagnated job growth.

    Chuck Bartowski (4c6c0c)

  52. You are an abject liar, spurty. And a clumsy liar at that. It is especially cute that in a thread about the overt dishonesty of MSNBC, it links to Benen @MSNBC as an authoritative source.

But here is the post that says it all:

“…I can’t police all your threads elissa and I draw the line at participating in some of the nuttier ones, which definitely includes anything touching on the subject of abortion…”

Yes, Farticvs thinks he is “policing” the threads.

What Stashiu3 does is policing. What Farticvs does is cheerleading. He is just a Pom Pom Boy.

I also like the post where he criticizes someone for (wait for it) not reading something.

But remember: he only posts to argue, not debate. And I doubt he is bright enough to understand the difference.

    Simon Jester (c8876d)

  66. 61.Chucky cyclical recession? really?

Yes, really. We had a recession in 2000-2001, and then started another one in 2008. It was exacerbated by the meltdown in the financial sector, but that was actually a bipartisan screw-up.

Obama’s efforts to reverse the recession have only made things worse. When job growth should be at its strongest, it’s now stagnant because of the Obama administration. Deal with it, butt nugget.

The only reason the unemployment rate is listed as 9.1% currently is because the percentage of population participating in the employment pool is at an all-time low. 100. Spart, EPWJ’s right. the democrat congress inherited one of the nicest economic pictures in American history.

And amazingly, those aspects that were not bright are things Bush was fighting. Things like social security in need of reform, Barney Frank/Jamie Gorelick style Fannie Mae recklessness.

Except for the deficit. Bush has a poor record on that, however the democrat house in 2007 took a bad situation and made it far worse. It would have taken the GOP house several decades to get to the debt level we’re at now.

    Dustin (b7410e)

I mostly agree but I do think it is important to realize that part of the good numbers being shown were in fact the housing bubble inflating the economy. We will be a long time reaching the pre-crash levels because things should never have been that high in the first place. I think it is important to look at this or recovery expectations will be unrealistic. Bush did the right thing to recover from the 9/11 economic slump but he got away with letting the Congress spend too much because of the inflated economy from the real estate market. His measures were still right but needed to be combined with some mature conduct from the Congress, which did not happen.

    Machinist (b6f7da)

Those are the “official” unemployment stats

WAGNER: Renewables. Battery plans. If we see Obama in another battery plant in the next three weeks, I think everybody is ready to give up on wind, solar and hydro. I mean, the idea that that’s going to pull us out of the ditch that we are remain in.

I mean, you know, I was talking with Emanuel Cleaver earlier this week, and he was saying, look, you know, to a certain degree, there’s bound to be disappointment, people pin hopes on Barack Obama. But, at the end of the day, people don’t understand what these green jobs are, you know? And if that’s the only plan he has, I think the White House is in serious trouble.

The Bikini Graph shows the Bush economy Obama inherited was loosing jobs at an accelerating rate and continued hemorrhaging jobs until February of 2010. Beginning in February of 2009 the loss rate began to slow, largely due to stimulus measures and reached slightly positive job growth by March 2010 where it has more or less remained.

  148. JD it’s real simple.

The jobless numbers through Feb 2010 belong to Bush III. Bush took us on a roller coaster ride, he took unemployment rates way up and Obama brought them back down and stabilized the economy using stimulus. Job growth is now stagnant because the stimulus ran out and we meed more stimulus NOT spending cuts, which will simply drive the unemployment rates back up again.

    Mormons: Faith And Perceptions

With The Book of Mormon getting rave reviews on Broadway and two presidential candidates who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mormons again find themselves in the spotlight. Yet, many Americans know little, if anything, about the Mormon faith and much of what they do know comes from myths or misperceptions. The Church launched a media campaign this year that aims to introduce people to the Mormon faith and the lives of everyday Mormons. Guest host Rebecca Roberts talks with San Diego State University professor Joanna Brooks about the faith, experience, perceptions and misperceptions of modern Mormons.

    Yes.

And it’s very important we not pretend the GOP is all things that are good when it comes to spending. They let us down. That is the reason they are struggling to gain enough power to stop the progressive agenda. They compromised and lost their purpose. The short term wishes of a few idiots corrupted the entire point behind a conservative political party.

Anyway, EPWJ is quite right that the real deficits Bush saw came because the democrats held Iraq hostage. It’s actually very close to the awful descriptions used about the GOP with regard to the recent debt ceiling fight. They got their way.

But before they had enough power to do that, Republicans had deficits. It would have been very hard for the GOP to balance the budget. Things would have to be cut. Departments would have shrank. Even education may have gotten a funding cut. Dare I say entitlements too. It would have been politically difficult, but today would be so different. In fact, the GOP would be in a much better position had they lost power for fighting to balance the budget, and then the democrats spent us to oblivion.

As things are now, the voters have a choice between lame and horrible.
