The Herman Cain Gospel Album?

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 1:24 pm

Mediate admits this has not been verified, but take a listen and decide for yourself, here.

My thoughts?  I didn’t have time to listen to much but 1) it sounded a lot like him, and 2) it was competently but not awesomely sung.  Both of those opinions are subject to change when I have the time to actually, you know, listen to it…

  5. Ehrenstein is just your typical lefty nitwit.

Goes around moaning about racism all the time…and then supports the party of race-based slavery and Jim Crow.

Kinda like a Jew hollering about anti-semitism and then hooking up with the Nazis.

  6. Dave, you’re on a roll. I noticed the double whammy you left on the Panetta thread and decided to let it ride. Now I see you’ve called the pot and put in hefty raise. Good man.

  7. David ehrenstein get his jollies calling people racist. He is a one trick shetland pony.

  9. Heh. TPM is touting it as Cain’s…“The Republican presidential candidate’s gospel album “Sunday Morning” went online today and according to Cain spokesman Ellen Carmichael on Twitter, his staff “may or may not be ‘testifying’ in the office right now, listening to boss’s music.” Carmichael told TPM that an independent pro-Cain website, DraftCain.org posted the years-old album and that the official campaign had nothing to do with its re-emergence.

While it’s not the sort of music I’m inclined toward, this comment at TPM re Cain’s gospel album made me giggle.

How cheesy the production is, how bad the drum production is etc etc etc.

The reason it’s so cheesy and poorly produced and completely un-inspirational/fresh/new sounding is because the world in which these people inhibit (when I say these people I mean super religious/fundamentalist) abhor creativity, the freedom of thought, and the fundamental pursuit and consummation of information through the creative process.

Creativity is diametrically opposed to the foundations of religious doctrine which seeks to limit one’s view and comprehension of the world.

Apparently to the left, creativity and evidence of such is what they alone determine it to be. Locksteppers and all that jazz…

  10. I think he is pulling your leg.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  11. I don’t think so, DohBiden, I think this is precisely the sort of narrow minded stereotypical misjudgment of the religious right that the left habitually makes. It’s nothing new. Just amusing in its consistency.

    Dana (4eca6e)

  12. Amen, Dana.

  15. Beautiful, Dave Surls! I was thinking along the lines of the classic hymns – writing and music that has stood the test of time…

Be Still My Soul, A Mighty Fortress is Our God, and the classic Amazing Grace (as well as others) have have imparted through the years to untold millions, the hope, encouragement and sheer strength to press on just one more step in the face of adversity. The collective force of the old hymns, still relevant today, still evocative and challenging, still communicating and still being sung, speaks volumes.

According to our TPM friend, these are clearly lacking inspiration, creativity, and freedom of thought. How could they be anything else but?

    Dana (4eca6e)

  16. Another thing about the quoted commenter at #10, I note several things:

First, I agree with him re the quality of the music (drum) and the cheesy production. I think he’s right. However I disagree entirely with his reasons why.

By his reasoning, only people who are not religious right can produce quality music and output, and I suppose we could carry that right over into all forms of art – why would the religious right be any more gifted or inspired in the written word or painting than they were at music? Progs are so *not*

Another thing I note is the similarity in his line of thinking with what we’ve seen in the Rauhauser nonsense – a sort of establishing of a narrative, promoting it, leading and attacking with it until it takes on it’s own form of truth and by sheer relentless force, shuts down discussion of any other possibilities.

  21. Dana – Neal Rowhowswer is about as vile of a cretin as anyone could dread to run across in their lives. He is a natural buddy for Kimberlin.

    JD (e0b833)

  22. I agree, JD. I was just noticing a similarity in tone and thought. That’s all.

    Dana (4eca6e)

  23. I like peas out of the can with garlic they’re about the only edible canned vegetable except canned potatoes are cool in some stews cause of they have an interesting shape and also mushy peas I really really love – I eat them at a pub on ventura. I tried to make them myself once but it was Fail. They didn’t taste at all like the pub ones. Also I like peas in some casseroles my mom used to make.

In summary I have no problem eating peas Obama is just a douchebag.

  25. Oh, you nailed it, Dana, to be sure. By the way, are you free on OCT 27th? We are going to try to get together for dinner out there.

I like semi frozen peas on salads. And wasabi peas. But that kind Bqrcky was talking abut , well he can shove them up his weinerhole for all I care.

    JD (e0b833)

  26. If you find yourself downtown, happyfeet, pop into the revamped Off Vine. I went this week. Scrumptious penne pasta and the Mango Avocado Shrimp salad sings.

    Dana (4eca6e)

  30. now I heard it all
    the Mango Avocado
    Shrimp salad can sing

    ColonelHaiku (f2ed50)

  31. Canned peas with garlic? Do you add the garlic, or does it come that way?

they’re about the only edible canned vegetable

I like canned corn. And baked beans, but you probably didn’t count those. And hearts of palm are kind of nice in some salads.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  32. I eat them at a pub on ventura.

hf, you really ought to try the Buchanan Arms in Burbank. I think it’s on Burbank Blvd, it’s been a couple of years since I last ate there.

    Chuck Bartowski (e84e27)

  33. i will go for sure Dana maybe go early Saturday for the pre fixe

oh and right I forgot canned corn is fine – but yeah you have to add your own garlic for the peas

but I’m ready for closure on the whole debt ceiling thing it’s embarrassing that this is my little country

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  34. Buchanan Arms looks very good Chuck if I don’t get there soon I’ll for sure remember it for St. P’s Day next year – we have to go every year for work and I think we’d all like a new place to try – all meaning me and New Girl anyway

sticky toffee pudding sounds like something I’m not gonna wait til St. P’s day to try though

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  35. but yeah you have to add your own garlic for the peas

So what’s the recipe? Open can and add what? Crushed garlic? Garlic powder? Something else?

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  36. Why not a Michelle Bachmann Gospel?

    Go ahead smack me.

    season them these peas

    ColonelHaiku (cc5c75)

  39. usually I use the powder but sometimes the minced and then just simmer with chopped onions and artichoke powder – it’s something for when I want something that’s like real food but I don’t want a lot of calories

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  40. _____________________________________________

The reason it’s so cheesy and poorly produced and completely un-inspirational/fresh/new sounding is because the world in which these people inhibit (when I say these people I mean super religious/fundamentalist) abhor creativity

Crappy taste knows no boundaries, ideological or otherwise. There are super secularist/nihilistic people who can be stereotyped as looking at, say, modern artwork that looks like something a youngster created. And those secularists/nihilists proclaiming “this art is so deep, profound and sophisticated!” Simply put, the phenomenon of the “Emperor’s New Clothes.”

As for Herman Cain, his background is one that I admire a lot more than most of the other candidates out there. I know his race is the least of all that he is, the least of all that he represents. But I can’t help but mull over that when thinking about a fascinating hypothetical: Namely, what would happen if 90-plus percent of black America shared Cain’s ideological orientation instead of that of the guy now in the White House? I bet the social, cultural and economic stability and synergy throughout that part of society would really begin to coalesce, strengthen and then kick into high gear.

    Mark (411533)

  41. Yeah I wanna sue the tool who said that for making me dumber.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  42. usually I use the powder but sometimes the minced and then just simmer with chopped onions and artichoke powder – it’s something for when I want something that’s like real food but I don’t want a lot of calories

Ah, this is a cooked dish; I thought you said you eat it out of the can, so I was wondering. And I’ve never heard of artichoke powder, but I’ll look for it and try this; it looks easy enough even for me.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  43. artichoke powder is a mexican thing – mexicans are obsessed with fiber I have no idea why but I use it a lot in stuff to help make it more healthier – I get it in the North Hollywood not-ghetto and a package lasts a good while usually

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  44. Barack Obama – pseudo christian
Herman Cain – bonafide, gospel singing christian

Mr. Cain just set himself apart, and above, PrezBO with solid credentials in the religious arena.

Now.. if only we can get Mr. Cain into the Presidential election. Many more hurdles to clear and he’s got to win the Repub. Nomination.

Neal Boortz (Atl. Based talk radio) confirmed that his buddy and part-time stand-in Mr. Cain was indeed the singer on the track played over the radio this morning on WSB-AM750.

  45. So lovely.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  46. “Hey Surls — wanna see the Herman Cain Story?”

Sure, Ehrenstein. Cain is a Tom, a tool of The Man, a sellout. While Ehrenstein is a poor, oppressed victim of the system nobly speaking truth to power (by sitting on his fat ass, and writing about Hollywood gossip…it’s just too grueling, dude, how do you manage to go on?).

    Spare me.

I’ve heard that same song and dance about a zillion times.

    Dave Surls (d1335b)

  47. Surls, I’m not a “poor oppressed victim of the system.” I’m a 64 year-old fully-functioning adult who has had to put up with all manner of nonsense — from all manner of different sides — for being black and gay. I gave up complining in high school (Music and Art, Class of ’64)

Herman Cain is a pizza entrepreneur who has yet to say anything of interest regarding national politics, IMO.

So you spare me — alright?

    David Ehrenstein (2550d9)

  48. “…I gave up complining in high school (Music and Art, Class of ’64)…”

Um. You do read your own comments and your own blog, I guess.
