So Why Was the Weiner Interested in the Porn Star?

I made a throwaway comment about it in the last post, but I figured I would make it into a full post, here (with Rule 5 goodness to follow). The Prudence Paine Papers had discovered that Congressman Wiener was following a porn star who goes by the name Ginger Lee, and digging deep into the archives of her tweets (@gingerlee), Prudence discovered this tweet:
You know it’s a good day when you wake up to a DM from @RepWeiner. (I’m a fangirl, y’all, he’s my trifecta of win.)
A DM is tweet slang, for a direct message, that is a message sent to you only. They can only be sent to a person who follows you. And they can only reply if you are following them back.

So I wondered, well, what on earth could have attracted Weiner’s attention? Well, she said she woke up to that tweet, so let’s assume that it was something the day before. No one can read anyone’s mind, but this post seems to be a good nominee (this is the whole post, no title):
Don’t let anyone who supports [the Protect Life Act] ever say to you, ‘I’m for less government regulation. Oh, there’s too much government regulation.’ You’ve got to be kidding. You can’t vote for this thing and then say you’re for less government regulations. The mother of all government regulations, this is the regulation of an individual woman in a room with her doctor — andCongressman Pitts, apparently. I mean, I can’t think of a bigger government regulation. […] What this is about is a fundamental philosophical agreement, and that is that if you are ‘conservative’, and you believe in smaller, less intrusive government, you’ve gotta take awild, wild philosophical bank shot to get back to into supporting this bill. I don’t know how you do it! […] I know we read the Constitution that first day we were here, and I’m glad we did. You have to also basically say, if you support this, you don’t believe in a right to privacy for at least one half of the country. […] I think most Americans of all political stripes believe there’s a basic right to privacy. Is there anything more basic, more basic than your body?

But the extra fun thing is to look at her Weiner post the day she allegedly received the direct message:
That was probably written after she got the direct message, and doesn’t it have a certain “OMG he noticed me!” vibe to it?
Seriously this woman has a thing for him, writing on this day: “Y’all don’t even understand how much my crush on him grows every day.”
Or here on Twitter: “My Anthony Weiner love is keeping me entertained tonight. I have no shame about this.” That was on May 28, and it was unclear whether that was before or after the scandal broke.
And in this tweet she imagines a threesome with herself, Weiner and, um… in the interest of not traumatizing you, I will leave the fantasized third person at the link. Click at your own psychological risk…
And then she talks about getting a dose of him “live” (gosh I hope she means live on TV…) here:

And from her blog again: “When I say I love this man, I am being 100% serious.”
And that’s only some of the posts and tweets from the last two months. So bluntly it is really obvious that she has a major crush on Weiner, and you know what? That is okay. As far as I know, her conduct was not out of line. Indeed despite her claim that she is 100% serious about how much she loves him, I am not sure if she really is. Is he merely a figure of fantasy, with her having no interest in the flesh and blood man? And indeed even if she felt raw desire for him, the fact he is a married man might restrain her. I am not going to suggest that she was merely a homewrecker-in-waiting.
But to be blunt, I don’t care about her mindset. I care about his mindset, and thus only care about her mindset to the extent that he might have. In other words, I don’t care about whether she actually wanted him. Instead I wonder if Weiner took a look at something like this photo…
…or maybe even this photo…
…and thought maybe eventually he could ply a normal crush into a full-on affair?
Or maybe somehow he read enough of her blog to send her a message without having any idea that Ginger Lee as a stripper and porn star. Or maybe she was lying about the direct message.
But to riff off of Lee’s argument, if you were his wife, wouldn’t you want to see exactly what direct messages (and emails, etc.) were sent? Would you be cool with your husband (allegedly) reaching out to a porn star who expressed her love and affection for him?

This is shaping up to be Rielle Hunter “You’re so HOT!” all over again isn’t it? Some needy middle aged guys apparently just cannot resist being viewed as rock stars and responding. I’m not at all suggesting the Weiner flirtations ever went as far as the affair between Johnny and Rielle. But everything starts somewhere, doesn’t it?

Those photos are too photoshopped for me to really conclude what the woman really looks like. I suspect she’s not all that special in person. Why is a prominent congressman paling around with lame little groupies like that?
She’s going on about how there could be something shameful, but she doesn’t care, and how she really means she loves him, and other women are calling him her boyfriend… does that really help him politically?

But I didn’t see any reference to porn. I know OTHERS have called her a porn star. But is she really? Do we have any evidence she is?
This isn’t to try to get Weiner off the hook. I’m just trying to tighten our shot groups.

It seems sleazy as hell for her to try to be a politician’s groupie, but that’s her right.
It’s not that Weiner is the only creep here, but he’s the congressman. He’s the one always out there taking cheap shots and telling supreme court justices to recuse, on patently partisan grounds.
I think Ginger Lee is living up to what you’d expect of a porn star. Weiner is not living up to what you’d expect of a leader.
And just to be clear, I thought ed might have a point, so I googled her name, and she’s having intercourse in at least one video (it appears as though there are hundreds of such videos, and a lot of them are titled ‘slut’). I’m not going to judge her, but she’s no feminist despite her claims to be one on her blog. Feminists don’t go out of their way to degrade women as sluts and slaves.

Yep. Put her name in Google and from the second link on it’s all hard-core porn. In her blog she talks a lot about mental illness, including schizophrenia.
People don’t like to admit it, but the majority of porn stars are mentally ill.

I get pretty judgmental about this stuff, so I probably should try to resist that, but it’s damn sad. And she considers herself a feminist while portraying the most antifeminist narrative I could imagine (the porn concept that women love being treated like sluts).
Anyway, it’s fair to associate her with the groupie behavior of the comely coed, since she is publicly fawning for Rep Weiner, and he reportedly responded favorably. But I hope she’s not chewed up and spat out just because she’s an easy target. I suspect she probably has some serious damn problems.

I wouldn’t want to judge her either. I just think some of what I see about her is sad, and particularly not feminist, and I hope she sees the light on that.
Weiner is the kind of guy who sees a girl like ‘ginger lee’ and decides to hit on her.

I don’t think being truthful is being judgmental. The truth is that nobody who gets into the porn business is playing with a full deck, especially these days. Today’s porn ain’t yer grandpa’s porn. Today it’s mostly about brutality and degradation instead of eroticism.
Go on YouTube and look up Ginger Lee’s interviews. The worst part about them is the forced, cheerful insouciance of the interviewers and fans, who talk about violent sex scenes as though they’re a light-hearted romp that all normal people can enjoy.
I don’t oppose the idea of porn, but the reality of it always results in human wreckage. We haven’t figured out how to do it without destroying people.

That girl may convincingly say that she’s using that money to go to Georgia Tech or whatever, but the reality is that most of those girls don’t have their shit together. And there are plenty of men who are happy to take advantage of that.
