Newt’s In

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 2:10 pm

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.  Or by Twitter @AaronWorthing.]

In the middle of my twitter-war with chief twit Oliver Willis, twitter crashed, or stopped or something.

And this is why: Newt Gingrich sent out a tweet that said:

Today I am announcing my candidacy for President of the United States. You can watch my announcement here. http://bit.ly/kEbh7d

On the other hand, Monday he tweeted this:

Be sure to watch Hannity this Wednesday at 9pm ET/8pm CT. I will be on to talk about my run for President of the United States @seanhannity

Which means he already had announced he was running, he just didn’t “announce” it yet, I guess.  It reminds me of when my sister in law and the guy she was dating told me that they would be engaged the next year.

Me: So you are engaged to be engaged, is that it?

Her: Yes.

Me: So in other words you are engaged.  A promise to promise to marry is a promise to marry.

So this is a bit of political bull____, which you know I find irritating, but it’s part of the dance to grab as much free media attention as humanly possible, so that is expected.

Of course people who regularly follow this blog know that I like my presidents to have administrative experience.  I tweeted him asking about his.  I don’t expect to hear back.

Anyone know if he has any executive/administrative experience, preferably with citations?

  2. in my mind Newt will forever and ever be sitting on that park bench with Nancy Pelosi staring earnestly into the camera and bibble barfing nonsense about climate change like a goredouche

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  3. I met him once. He seemed ok. Not all smelly like Rush Limbaugh.

    carlitos (1596cc)

  4. He probably hates black people you know.

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  5. I just thought of that.

    happyfeet (a55ba0)

  6. Real great: replace a narcissist with a megalomaniac. Quite the upgrade there.

[But yeah, if this were all that was being offered then I would choose Newt over Barack.]

  7. Not all smelly like my poop crusted butt.

FIFY Carlitos………..Sorry but I just had to.

  8. Happy,

Newt is a great man, at a great time, who took the fight to the liberals and beat them when no one else would step up

Flawed, sure, but in todays moving goalposts of political liabilities – few can match him – but I wouldnt want to be liberal candidiate in a debate with him

    EricPWJohnson (c0a978)

  9. He gave Nancy Pelosi verbal fellatio on the couch.

    But I guess your right.

  10. He gave Nancy Pelosi verbal fellatio on the couch.

    But I guess your right.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  11. He won’t make it out of Iowa. Everyone will be talking about executive experience until he and Palin are out of the race.

    Leviticus (666a86)

  12. Bbut he is a millionaire

/Leftys who have no problem aligning themselves with communist millionaires

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  13. Gingrich has a lot of good qualities; he did a log of good for America in his time. But his flaws are too glaring to ignore. Not least among them: Gingrich has admitted adultery, and that is not a small thing. Americans have not yet knowingly elected an adulterer president. (As of Nov 1996 Clinton was still denying that he had committed adultery, and many people believed him.)

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  14. Dohbiden,

    *sigh*

Newt is a master strategist – I wouldnt read anything into what he says – a good thing with all polticians BTW – but look at what he does

    just sayin

    EricPWJohnson (c0a978)

  15. Ok.

BTW a kid shot his white supremacist father………….Now can we have black children shooting their black supremacist father?

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  16. And yes those who want to seal the border are white supremacists according to the left.

    DohBiden (15aa57)

  17. I’m not a fan of Newt Gingrich but as Speaker of the House he had more executive experience than Barack Obama had.

May still have more, if my impression of how much real decisions Obama has made is correct.

  18. Once Newt was on top, he sat in the catbird seat, he was the right man, in the right place, at the right time. Unfortunately he wasn’t up to the job. He wasn’t tough enough and he went wobbly.

Newt sat silent and unresponsive, transfixed, by confusion and bewilderment at the tidal wave of unprincipled criticism Democrats unleashed against him. They revelled openly and unmercifully in their underhanded smear attacks. Yet, still, Newt wouldn’t fight back, and so his once bright star declined to near insignificance.

Now, Newt wants to be taken as a serious presidential candidate. OK. I’ll hold my mud and I’ll give him a fair opportunity to make his case. But, he better come out swinging or I’ll direct my attention to more virile contenders.

    ropelight (584fcf)

  19. SPQR, the Speakership of the House doesn’t give anyone executive experience. What does the Speaker run? Leading a legislative house is great experience in legislating, but that’s just the point; the skills needed to legislate, i.e. herding cats, are different from the ones needed to run a government.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  20. Milhouse – the Speaker runs the entire operation of the Capitol and its grounds. Yes, it is still a gov’t entity, but I promise you it requires executive skills. In Newt’s case, he was able to synthesize the Contract With America and got ‘er done. He does not lack for executive skills.

I find him to be an appalling individual, though. I do not want him as my president, especially when there are a number of fantastic folks already declared.

  21. Is DohBiden really necessary? The stupid, off-topic random comments are one thing, but he occasionally generates something like #16, which could be quoted out of context to the detriment of this fine blog.

    carlitos (1596cc)

  22. “Newt’s In”

Is that a quote from a wife or a mistress. Can imagine ‘the Gipper’ making a radio play-by-play call as Trump laterals the ball to Gingrich.

“Newt’s In Insane.” Fixed that for ‘ya. But hey, he knows how to draw attention to himself to sell books.

    DCSCA (9d1bb3)

  23. International Man of Parody just called someone insance? Really?!

    JD (d48c3b)

  24. Wow, I quote the smelly Rush Limbaugh thing and DCSCA appears. It’s like Beetlejuice. 🙂

    carlitos (1596cc)

  25. I had high hopes for him as speaker. He appeared very strong on the contract with America. But like ropelight said, he went wobbly. Was it because he was already starting his latest fling? I don’t know, but he needed to decide if he wanted to be leader or he wanted to let lust rule him. It would have been pretty hard to do both in his position at that time.

That said, he is a good speaker. He knows more and care more about American history than Obama ever will. I would definitely vote for him instead of Obama. And wouldn’t even have to hold my nose as I did with McCain.

    PatAZ (f79bea)

  26. Newt is just another “Beltway RINO” who thinks we should vote for him because it’s his turn.

sorry goober, but you had your chance at greatness when you became Speaker of the House, but you managed to squander that over nickle and dime bull5hit instead of fixing things and controlling spending but cutting the budget in meaningful ways.

if, by some stupid series of events he gets elected, he will be a squishy middle of the road loser helping the idiots kick the can further down the road. just what we need.

    not.

Not sure how meaningful that is if the candidate that’s being scrutinized is of the left. Moreover, it’s not just a matter of questioning a person’s experience, but also his or her intelligence too. After all, very bright people, when judging people, policies and situations, can be surprisingly foolish, even idiotic. IOW, they can be nonsensically liberal.

In the case of Gingrich, it’s not his ideological biases that hurt him. It’s other aspects of the guy that transcend the purely political. Those include his big ego, schlumpy persona, and track record of scroungy personal behavior. Of course, I’d still easily prefer him over the ultra-liberal now occupying the White House. But the way I’ll vote in 2012 is quite different from that of a wide variety of people.

    Mark (411533)

  28. Milhouse, the Speaker of the House has the staff of Congress to run. Its not much of a chore, but its more than Obama had ever run before running for President.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  29. Doesn’t the fact that he in order to run he will be in charge of the camapign count as executive experience?

I seem to recall someone saying that before.

    malclave (1db6c5)

  30. and that is not a small thing

his whore home-wrecking wife would also be the first adulterous hoochie mama in the white house that we know of I’m pretty sure

but some people say I’m kind of naive

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  31. I guess it’s a race between her and Mrs. Daniels

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  32. Well we know that historically at least one president, Harding, had some issues with fidelity, but it’s more in the nature of his principles or
willing to jettison same, re AGW, ethanol, subprime lobbying, that’s a bigger concern.

    narciso lopez (79ddc3)

  33. hey have I ever told you guys the story about the dog wif two bones?

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  34. Mr. narciso I have no problem seeing fidelity as a serious character issue and it’s your white trash Gingrich types and their slatternly hoochies in particular what will screech til the cows come home about the sanctity of their Jesus-sanctified heterosexual matrimony while neither one of em can keep it in their pants six days out of seven.

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

    You mean like Gavin Newsom?

    Michael Ejercito (64388b)

  36. Gavin Newsom is a slut Mr. Ejercito so … yeah

    happyfeet (3c92a1)

  37. Specially considering who he was married to, very stupid, on all counts.

    narciso lopez (79ddc3)

  38. Was Harding’s philandering public knowledge when he was elected? For that matter, do we actually know that he was an adulterer, do we have actual evidence for it, or is it just fashionable to believe it? For instance, do we know the name of any of his alleged mistresses? I honestly don’t know.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  39. Scratch that, I just came across Wikipedia’s summary, with sources which can be examined for their credibility.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  40. “Ma, Ma, where’s my Pa?
Gone to the White House; Haw-Haw-Haw!”

    AD-RtR/OS! (6602e0)

  41. Has feets ever met someone he admires and speaks well of?

    AD-RtR/OS! (6602e0)

  42. OK, it seems that there are specific allegations, by and about named women, but the only solid evidence may be contained in letters that will be published in 13 years. At any rate, true or not, none of this was public knowledge at the time of his election.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  43. I think Newt is sufficiently experienced and knowledgeable that he will make the debates better. Much like John Bolton, I don’t think he is a serious threat, but I don’t mind people like this getting involved. It’s the empty suits I mind.

    Dustin (c16eca)

  44. “Ma, Ma, where’s my Pa?
Gone to the White House; Haw-Haw-Haw!”

Cleveland was not even accused of adultery. The child in question may or may not have been his, but neither he nor the child’s mother were married at the time.

You must be a big Carter&Clinton fan.

    vor2 (39e8d4)

  47. Seems to me that Newt’s primary experience is at spotting mobs, and getting ahead of them in order to shout, “Follow me!”. Problem is, he then heads for the nearest cliff.

I remember the ’94 election, it was the peak of my political involvement. All that going around ringing doorbells, (Got serious blisters overdoing that.) posting hundreds of signs, working at campaign headquarters folding brochures. I must admit, despite all this, I’d never even heard of that “Contract” until *after* the election. When it was used as an excuse to stiff the pro-gun and pro-life movements, while Newt carefully managed the Term limits and Balanced budget amendment votes so that everybody who needed to could vote for them, with no risk of their passing. (They had multiple versions brought to a vote, so as to split the vote between them, and make sure none of them passed.)

And then that dive they took in the Waco hearings, and putting off the vote on repealing the ‘Assault weapon’ ban until AFTER OK city…

No, I don’t have fond memories of Newt, and he’s not getting my vote.

    Brett Bellmore (6652c2)

  48. Brett, if you really hadn’t heard of the Contract With America until after the election, then you weren’t paying attention, no matter how many doorbells you rang. I wonder what you told all those people, if you were ignorant of the main campaign theme! I spent that season campaigning for a Libertarian candidate, and even I knew about the Contract.

    Milhouse (ea66e3)

  49. Great, the smartest person in any room that he walks into is now running.
I like Newt, he is a very smart guy with basic beliefs that I can rally behind, unfortunately, he is aslo a complete political animal, he is the essence of what is known as the “establishment Republican” and I don’t trust him.
I have spoken to three different women on his announcement and all three hate the guy due to his unfaithfulness to his wife, which is a biggy in my book.If the guy couldn’t be faithful to his wife then I know he has issues being honest with anything else he does.

Lastly, I cannot get the image of him sitting on the sofa with Pelosi in that ad, add to that that we would officially have a POTUS named “Newt” and it is more than I can handle.

    justavoter (b003e1)

  50. He cheated on his wife. Enuf said.

    Anita Busch (a025dd)

  51. Anita Busch,

    Ditto.

On top of that, he is far too precious in his own eyes.

    Dana (4eca6e)

  52. The Pelosi AGW commercial should be an effective STOP against him ever being a Team R nominee again.
