Too Goofy to Check: Reporter Held in Closet at Biden Fundraiser
The White House website proudly says ‘President Obama is committed to creating the most open and accessible administration in American history.’
But try telling Vice President Joe Biden’s staff that, after they held a local reporter in a closet for hours after he was invited to cover a Florida political fundraiser because they did not want him talking with the guests.

The Orlando Sentinel reporter was ushered into the closet inside wealthy property developer Alan Ginsburg’s Winter Falls mansion, after being told that Joe Biden and Senator Bill Nelson had not yet arrived. . . . He was told he could only come out when the politicians were ready to give their speeches.
Powers told The Drudge Report: ‘When I’d stick my head out, they’d say, “Not yet. We’ll let you know when you can come out.”’

I wonder if this has anything to do with Biden’s silence on Libya. Some are speculating that Biden opposed the Libyan “kinetic military action” and has been “sent to Coventry“

He might have been prohibited from mingling with the guests, but was he prohibited from just leaving? If not, this whole thing is an exaggeration by a reporter who was annoyed by his lack of access. If they did prohibit him from leaving and actually held him captive, then all he has to do is go have a word with the cops, and heads will roll.

In reading the full text of the article, it doesn’t appear he was prevented from leaving nor did he or the article suggest that. Given he was the only reporter at the event, it is shocking that they would treat him this way. Clearly it doesn’t reflect well on this administration or Biden’s staff who enforced this policy.
I’m curious to hear if there have been any other fundraisers where this hampering of the press has occurred.

I thought not.
They let him watch the speech, but otherwise restricted his access to the private residence in question. When he saw that instead of sticking him in something like a spare bedroom or something, they had designated a closet as his waiting area, he could have left. He decided to stay, and at certain points, stick his head out to see if the politicos had arrived yet.
He was not locked in a closet or kidnapped, as some of the news articles suggest. If he had any balls, he would have just left if he felt he was not being shown the respect he was due.
Personally, I think he was treated with all the dignity he deserved, although it was probably a misstep politically for Biden & Co.
