Nightmare: Gaddafi Thugs Murdering Wounded Protesters in Hospitals?

Filed under: General — Aaron Worthing @ 9:00 pm

[Guest post by Aaron Worthing; if you have tips, please send them here.]

Via Hot Air, we get this account of some truly horrible conduct, if true:

A resident of the increasingly violent Libyan capital of Tripoli told CBS Radio News Thursday that armed supporters of Muammar Qaddafi, the country’s longtime leader, have stormed into hospitals to shoot wounded demonstrators and take dead bodies to an unknown location.

“They go in with guns into hospitals,” said the resident, identified only as Adel to protect his safety. “They take the bodies that are dead. In some hospitals, they have shot the wounded. This is true. I know it’s very strange for the States, but this is happening today in Tripoli.”

Because the situation in Libya is growing more dangerous day by day and reporting from the country is difficult for Western journalists, the statements Adel made to CBS Radio News could not be independently verified.

In one example of the violence in Libya, Adel said he saw 62 protesters killed and about 100 more wounded in Tripoli’s Green Square Tuesday.

“They’re putting the bodies on half pickup trucks, and they’re taking them somewhere we don’t know yet because they don’t want these bodies to go into hospitals,” Adel said.

And indeed you should read the whole thing, but I suspect the readers here are sharp enough to recognize that there is a serious sourcing problem for this story—it’s just one guy’s account and it’s not even clear if CBS News knows the man’s true identity.

As you know, the government of Libya, a member of the U.N.’s prestigious Human Rights Council, has been doing its best to terrorize anyone who might seek to do independent reporting over there.  The other day I gave you concrete examples of how, when the truth is not revealed, dubious tales rush in to fill the vacuum (although in this case, it is not CBS’ fault that they are having a hard time getting the truth to us).  Is this an example of that?  Hard to say.  I have gotten to the point in my life where I would not be surprised if this was true.  But that’s not the same as proving it.

Either way, this regime cannot end fast enough.

  1. How about a campaign to make our 2nd Amendment apply world-wide?

  2. st.george

indeed, under the commerce clause! 🙂

no i do believe that obviously guns goes hand in hand with freedom.

  4. I’ve heard this for a couple of days, Aaron…

As Dale Franks said, we should just air-drop a few crates of M-16’s and 5.56 ammo – the citizens would probably be able to figure out the rest from there.

  5. This reeks of a political lie. Qaddafi is a monster, but this is pretty ridiculous. The people in the hospital are not the most important threat to Qaddafi right now, and his situation is quite urgent. I don’t think he’d waste the unbelievably hardcore and loyal thugs needed for this operation to be reliable on this kind of operation.

I do think Muslim Brotherhood would make up a lie this horrible. Or maybe Iran made it up. Or maybe some attention seeking or money hungry CBS source.

I think a liar is a much better explanation. Even though I do look forward to the day Qaddafi is gone.

  6. And Scott’s solution is the right one. We should have done this in a few places over the years. When there’s a huge protest against a thuggish enemy of our country, we need to make sure they are armed. Especially when they are being brutalized.

  7. I don’t think he’d waste the unbelievably hardcore and loyal thugs needed for this operation to be reliable on this kind of operation.

It wouldn’t take many. Just 5 or 6 per hospital would be enough to terrify the population. When you have an AK, you don’t need a lot of guys to off the wounded who come for treatment.

And the guy DID bomb protesters… I hardly put this past him.

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  8. I don’t put it past him morally either, of course. Human life obviously means nothing to him. But while it’s possible he did this, it just sounds like the sort of lie we occasionally hear from this part of the world. I hope Qaddafi sees justice (which can only mean his death). I also realize some of his enemies want to kick this up a notch, and I just don’t see Qaddafi focusing on hospitals right now. He probably is more worried about the enemies who are still standing.

  9. I’ll ask my friend in Tripoli… See if he can confirm…

From Edward Abbey, darling of the environmentalists: Stop every campesino at our southern border, give him a handgun, a good rifle, and a case of ammunition, and send him home. He will know what to do with our gifts and good wishes. The people know who their enemies are.

  11. Uh-oh Edward Abbey will be thrown under the bus in 5…4…3…2…1…

  12. Dustin, I’m not going to say this story is true, but I think G/Gh/K/Qadaf/ff/i/y might be sending his thugs out to do this. It’s an extra way of terrorizing the people–the message is, “I’m going to complete the job of killing you”. And people wounded in the hospital can be assumed to be opponents of G/Gh/K/Qadaf/ff/i/y, so G/Gh/K/Qadaf/ff/i/y has every reason to want them dead.

It think I heard a similar story last year about Iran, although in that one, the Iranian security forces found people in hospital and transported them to jails without further ado, for appropriate “treament” to be administered there.

  13. oh. it’d = it’s … I am on the nyquils … at first I thought it was allergies but nope

is it just me or does gaddafi thugs sound like a multi-ethnic boy band?

    happyfeet (ab5779)

  14. G/Gh/K/Qadaf/ff/i/y, so G/Gh/K/Qadaf/ff/i/y

    LOL

The prisons in Iran are horrible.

Anyhow, if Qaddafi is sending his special Death Panels out, then he’s even dumber than I imagined possible. You never want to minimize the wounded, time consuming casualties of your enemies with martyrs.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  15. are we opposed to just stand here and let you dis Iranian prisons?

    happyfeet (ab5779)

  16. It’s the nyquils, mr. feets. Get a good rest and drink chicken soup in the morning.

    kishnevi (225b9d)

  17. ok but first a shout out to mah proud Iranian prison brudders I know you feel me

    happyfeet (ab5779)

  18. I didn’t mean to threadjack. I do think transporting hospital patients to a rape/torture to death Iranian style prison would be similar in many respects to this story, but it’s different in that this attack is just brazenly sending a message of “We are completely horrible and can get away with anything and any good person will fight us.”

I’m often on a different wavelength about this stuff. I wouldn’t make a good dictator. When 9/11 happened, I tried to convince a crying woman that it was a hoax (it sounds more reasonable in our context where we didn’t have access to phones or TV, and heard of it by word of mouth). Readily understanding this kind of thing just isn’t part of my program.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  19. Preview of ObamaCare was my reaction, but Dustin sort of beat me to it in 14.

  21. i think the UN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION should investigate this. oh but isn’t muammar the chairman of that commisiion.

    tommy mc donnell (397858)

  22. Whether or not this is true the writer knows Islamic society well. Bodies must be buried within a specific, rather short, interval if the souls are to go to heaven, eventually. Barbarism of the sort recounted is very much in accord with Islamic laws and expectations. It is an application of terrorism against the top dog’s enemies.

Off hand I have no difficulty whatsoever believing this report. I expect the Mullahs of Iran are taking notes and will apply the same techniques in Iran.

    {^_^}

    jdow (98e9d7)

  23. We need a website dedicated to exposing the UN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION.

    Amphipolis (b120ce)

  24. While my friend in Tripoli can not confirm it with his own eyes, he has confirmed it with calls from doctors and nurses at hospitals.

Also, MD in Philly – can yo give me a url to a good, layman’s instructions to childbirth?

They have a gal hanging out with them that is highly pregnant, and they would rather not swing by maternity…

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  25. Will Obama apologize for this?

    Arizona Bob (e8af2b)

  26. Cue-Daffy should resign; if not over these allegations, then because of his failure to control the flow of dangerous drugs getting into the hands (and heads) of the protesters.

  27. Scott-

    here’s one:
    http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/readfile?fk_files=1546306&pageno=1

It is the official US Civil defense version, from 1970 and reviewed/reprinted 2008. I doubt much has changed about emergency deliveries in many decades.

I searched “Emergency Childbirth Instructions”, there’s lots of stuff there, no way I could go through much of it, i was looking for things “official”

As they say, “There’s an App for that”- downloadable apps for iPhones/etc andf android too, I think- from iTunes or cdnet/zdnet

Under that search are also some videos to watch the real thing before it happens

    MD in Philly (3d3f72)

  28. You’re welcome. She should try to drink as much fluid as she can to help (a little) not go into labor earlier than necessary (unless some other medical condition restricts the amount of fluids she can have).

Are they Americans/foreigners awaiting evacuation? I guess weather has been bad making rough seas, etc. and interfering.

    MD in Philly (3d3f72)

  29. Don’t know if it would count as evidence but I did see a very impassioned man-on-the-street interview from Libya of a man who stated that thugs were going into hospitals to “cut the head” of wounded protesters. He was part of a small group who was being interviewed. It was probably on FOX as that is where I have seen most of the footage from Libya.

Any update on the weather re the ferry?

  30. My friend was born in CA, but moved to Libya in ’09 because his education could get him a decent job there.

He’s married, so the both of them could get into the US Embassy, but that would mean going into the streets…

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  31. Also, Senator Kirk is a worthless pansy…

How do you think the United States should respond to the crisis in Libya?

    * Impose financial and diplomatic sanctions against the Qaddafi regime, its key military leaders and hired mercenaries,
    * Establish and enforce a no-fly zone over Libya,
    * Impose financial/diplomatic sanctions and administer a no-fly zone, or
    * Only act after permission from the U.N. Security Council.

Hey a$$hole, how about go actually HELP them?

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  32. Well, Mogadishu was an ambush that was set up for us, if necessary I think our special ops would have more success here, in some respects anyway. I don’t know how many stops “the bus” would need to make to pick up everyone.

    MD in Philly (3d3f72)

  33. Thanks for looking into it Scott.

Don’t know if it would count as evidence but I did see a very impassioned man-on-the-street interview from Libya of a man who stated that thugs were going into hospitals to “cut the head” of wounded protesters.

    Wow.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  34. MD, I think a platoon or two of Marine Force Recon would obliterate anything Col. S**thead has.

    Scott Jacobs (d027b8)

  35. Camera phones are ubiquitous world wide so i am reluctent to give much credence to oral reports, not that i doubt for a second that there are multiple atrocitys daily and wide spread. A good deal of it i attribute to their culture, something to think about for the multiculturalists. Critical thinking ability is assumed because they were throughly indoctrinated in our schools in ethnic studys.

    dunce (b89258)

  36. Exactly, Dunce. I don’t believe anything without hard verification when it comes from that region.

Though with or without this story, we have all the verification we need as to what a monster Qaddafi is.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  37. Yeah, because guys killing wounded protesters would TOTALLY let folks with recording equipment go…
