This is video from the massive water main break this morning that shut down half of the famous Washington, D.C. beltway:

Damn, that is massive.

You can read a lot more about it, here.

  1. That wasn’t your grey pick-up in the pic, was it?

It looked like a Chevy, so it’s ruined. If you’d had a Ford, you could just dry it out and be good to go!

  2. not all that impressive: the 64″ trunk line that blew out in Studio City back in 2009… not THAT was impressive.

  3. Uh, Aaron, shouldn’t that be INfamous DC Beltway?

  4. We are going to see more of this, and the visuals are pretty effective in getting politicians to respond and citizens to fret. Up here in Ventura County, the water infrastructure problems can only be solved with money. People b*tch, and I have firsthand knowledge of the underworked and overpaid Municipal and County employees who waste the money set aside for capital improvements, but this is the result.

Like frogs in the pot, we are slowly coming to a boil. Think about it next time you get your water bill and toss that insert with PUC contact info.

  5. Don’t know any specific facts re: this incident but such breaks often occur this time of year in North Central cities when mains aren’t buried deeply enough.
