  3. Oh, “Forbidden Planet” was wonderful in so many ways.

But I still liked Leslie Nielsen best as Sergeant Buck Frobisher on the great television series “Due South.”

    Here is a taste:

What a remarkable life: from serious actor to comedy genius. And from all reports, a genuinely nice and modest man. Not your typical Hollyweird parakeet. Much missed.

  4. He started as a serious dramatic actor and found his true calling in comedy. He will be missed.

  5. And his Naked Gun co-star — O.J. — is still alive. Life isn’t fair.

  6. Nielsen’s antics with a ‘whoopee pad’ off-camera are legendary. He was a seriously funny guy. And will be missed, but the laughter lives on.

  7. Shocked I had no idea he was in his 80’s – and what a loss! My condolences to his family

  8. Surely, it could not have been so serious.

  9. “I am serious,” Nielsen replies. “And don’t call me Shirley.”

  10. a bit back i bought the complete TV series “police squad!” on dvd and i watched an interview with neilson. he explained what he loved about the humor of the show. He said that the humor wasn’t at all mean spirited, as a rule. Like when Frank Drebben puts his eye to a microscope and manages to close the same eye, the scientist doesn’t say, “you idiot, use your open eye!” He says, “Frank, use your open eye.” He’s helpful not mean.

I think it says something about his character that he noticed that, and found it appealing.

  11. He was a very funny guy. It amazed me to read he was legally deaf.
