Call me out of touch, but I have never heard an Arab complain about the persecution of Jews.
Arizona Bob (e8af2b) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:16 pm“We are deeply concerned, because this is like a metastasized antisemitism,” said Daisy Khan, who is spearheading the project with her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. “It’s beyond Islamophobia. It’s hate of Muslims.”
So this is how Daisy Khan and her hubby plan on bridge building and observing American sensibilities – by accusing at least 70% or more of Americans as being racist and bigoted, as well as intentionally reframing the debate with said nasty accusations?
This makes me even more suspicious of their intentions, and frankly how they define critical terms, including sensibilities, moderates, compliance, and sharia.
Dana (8ba2fb) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:29 pmAgain, ask Daisy where she stands on religious freedom in Saudi Arabia. On record.
Eric Blair (28f3dc) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:32 pmMs. Khan said planners weren’t considering moving the center, but she didn’t rule out the option. “Right now it’s not (being considered) until we consult with all our stakeholders.”
…and precisely who are the stakeholders? In the quest of bridge building it might help to reassure protesters knowing exactly who they were.
Dana (8ba2fb) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:33 pmWe are trying to build bridges and tolerance between Islam and America and you bigoted and xenophobic pig people are trying to stop us. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!
daleyrocks (940075) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:34 pmPerhaps they should build their “community center” in Juarez?
AD - RtR/OS! (84b2f2) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:36 pmThere is a lot of outreach, and coming-together that could be accomplished there.
Hymietown hates Muslims!!!! Oh, the intolerance!
daleyrocks (940075) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:37 pm“Rev. Wright warned us this might happen because Americans fail to understand the role of Hamas as a benign social organization which peacefully promotes justice and freedom for the Palestinian people,” Daisy said.
daleyrocks (940075) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:43 pmU might have embellished that last one a little bit.
daleyrocks (940075) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:44 pmPatterico:

Dafydd the Puzzled (632d00) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:44 pmIf you support the building of the mosque and tolerant bridges to nowhere then your a terrorist.
Bostinks2 (9e7db6) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:51 pmCheeze…. jew’d think a fella could get a break around here, but not with you racists.
inam really, what’s the pogrom with building the 9/11 Debris and Body Parts not-Mosque but community cultural and outrage dialogue starting building right were we planned?
can’t you people take a joke?
Imam Fievel Abdul Rauf (fb8750) — 8/22/2010 @ 9:56 pmTo oppose a mosque scheduled to be built near the most sucessful muslim terrorist attack to date is to show hatred for all muslims?
No.
To build a mosque at that site, however, does demonstrate a certain disdain for the kafir.
Remember always that that muslims are encouraged to lie to promote our destruction. No all of them do it, but they are all encourged to do it.
tyree (351fe2) — 8/22/2010 @ 10:29 pmAre we required to love all religions equally (or to love them at all?) A religion is a set of beliefs and traditions. Are all beliefs and traditions equal? Is it not fair to set that we see one set of beliefs and traditions as reasonable, and other as barbaric?
Kevin Stafford (abdb87) — 8/22/2010 @ 10:33 pmFREE MUMIA!
daleyrocks (940075) — 8/22/2010 @ 10:36 pmWell, since you put it that way I suspect this would not be all that unlike building a neo-Nazi structure in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles and calling it Auschwitz-Birkenau. Would that be considered perfectly permissible? If so, then I suspect the Ground Zero Mosque, Cordoba House, or whatever its nom-du-jour is today.
In terms of maintaining domestic peace in New York they may have good reason to deny it and allow the destroyed Greek Orthodox Church to rebuild rather than the other way around.

JD (98e9d7) — 8/22/2010 @ 10:46 pmI think the key question here is will they play Midnight Basketball at the new, ahem, “Islamic Community Center.” ‘Cause we all know how vital that is in stopping youth crime and all that. I’m sure our Secretary of State and her husband can tell us all about it.
JVW (eccfd6) — 8/22/2010 @ 10:50 pmThat’s a mouthful! Just say it, Daisy, we’re like (drum roll) Hitler!
As to all these proposed conferences and seminars at the mosque, I would guess all the understanding is to be one-way. There will be no understanding of our values and way of life. There will be no get togethers with the customers of the Gutfield’s gay bar next door. There will be no mixed swimming in the rooftop pool. There will be no bikinis.
Patricia (358f54) — 8/22/2010 @ 10:58 pmWait like the old Ginzu knife commercial’s there’s more from the Amampour interview:
Daisy Khan’s response is even worse, that American policy caused the attacks as a result of our Cold War policies supporting the Mujahideen in Afghanistan: Imam Rauf was talking about “the CIA support specifically to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban” … “you know, in CIA terms, a blowback of that. That’s what he meant.”
I mean that leaves out the ISI and Saudi General

Mike Myers (3c9845) — 8/23/2010 @ 4:45 amPlease show me all of the examples of Muslims tolerating religious diversity.
Show me how they tolerate religious diversity in Saudi Arabia.
Show me how they foster religious diversity in Pakistan.
Show me how they tolerate religious diversity in Malaysia.
Show me how Muslims foster religious diversity in Darfur.
Show me how Muslims foster religious diversity in Egypt.
Don’t tell me about some mythical time of religious tolerance in Spain in the 12th century.
Jack (e383ed) — 8/23/2010 @ 4:52 amJack, they were most decidedly intolerant in Spain in the 12th Century See The Left Doth Protest Too Little Methinks!
Sorry for pushing my own post, but the Muslims in Spain ground the Christians and Jews down, not lifted them up.
GM Roper (5f13e9) — 8/23/2010 @ 5:51 ammmm, btw, philly is trying to charge bloggers $500 to blog. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/philly-requiring-bloggers-to-pay-300-for-a-business-license-101264664.html

Indeed, Molly Norris might be charged with blasphemy, a crime that carries the death penalty, for kicking off the everyone draw mohammed controversy. btw, that charge carries the death penalty.
Aaron Worthing (A.W.) (e7d72e) — 8/23/2010 @ 7:13 ami should say she would be charged, in pakistan.
Aaron Worthing (A.W.) (e7d72e) — 8/23/2010 @ 7:13 amHey, how about a Baptist Church in Mecca? “Praise be unto you, and have you heard the Good News?”
Kevin Murphy (5ae73e) — 8/23/2010 @ 7:31 amWell, of course we’re “worse than Hitler.” It’s not like killing Jews is frowned upon in the Muslim world. Nearly devoid of semantic content.
Kevin Murphy (5ae73e) — 8/23/2010 @ 7:36 amPenn and Teller recently made an insightful statement regarding an interviewer’s question on why they make great fun of all religions except Islam. Penn said they don’t because they have families to worry about, and that the other religions are incredibly good – natured about the ribbing they take from their show. Muslims, get a farking cluebat.

This is all because apparently they can’t understand all that these african americans are saying.
excuse me while i beat my head against the wall.
Aaron Worthing (A.W.) (e7d72e) — 8/23/2010 @ 8:05 amThey are simply trying to loot the treasury of the future as much as they can, at this point, AW. Those are great jobs for loyal democrats, and nothing more.
Dustin (b54cdc) — 8/23/2010 @ 8:25 amHow about letting a moderate branch of the KKK build a shrine to inter-racial tolerance and dialogue near where they found the bodies of the three civil rights workers killed in the 1960s in Missippi? You know the type of KKK branch I mean, of course – the sort that condemns violence as an acceptable means of political expression, but refuses to condemn past KKK acts, and says that the actions of the three civil rights workers made them, well, accessories to their own demise. Anybody opposing such a high-minded outreach effort would surely be a small-minded bigot, right? Right? Bueller?

SPQR (26be8b) — 8/23/2010 @ 9:33 amWell, they imagine they have them.
Perhaps it’s time to turn passenger/cargo screening over to those who have skin in the game:

Yes really.

Aaron Worthing (A.W.) (b1db52) — 8/23/2010 @ 11:08 amI’ve been worse than Hitler since the day I was born blue eyed, blond haired, white and a Southern California raised citizen of the USA… I’m getting used to hearing that my secret fantasy as a USA white guy “must be” to put swastika armbands on my KKK sheet and go goose stepping off to lynch a negro for “looking at a white woman”.
It’s a given.
OK I’m a monster.
BOO!
I’ll bet that one resonated all the way to Mecca… panic in the streets
Why does a modern day Goebbels clone call Palin.. or me for that matter, “Hitler-like”? I saw that movie where the clones get stupider and stupider, but there still must be a “reason”…

In response to the Ayatollah, didn’t Blue Oyster Cult sing “If he thinks we’re the devil, let’s send him to hell?”
If we’re worse than Hitler, doesn’t that give us a license to do whatever we want? I mean, really, America is worse than a warmongering, socialist, mass murder? Lay waste to their lands with nuclear weapons then. We can’t get any worse than ourselves! We’re free! Free to do anything! And no one can condemn us anymore than they already have! The fresh air of freedom! Who cares what they think now!
Actually, they’re trading on the common knowledge that we’re better than they are. That we won’t use our weapons to demonstrate our power to compel them to do our bidding. O! Please! Let them be wrong.
