You! Yes, You! Stand Still, Laddie!

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 11:36 am

Totten:

Take a look at the music video by Blurred Vision, an Iranian exile band based in Toronto. The song is a remake of “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd, updated and changed ever so slightly to apply to Iran in 2010 rather than to Britain in the 1970s. A culture that produces this is perfectly recognizable. And it’s hard to imagine anything like it emerging from any other country in the region aside from Lebanon.

It’s an electrifying piece of music video art, especially the scene at the end where a Persian woman steps into the light and removes her state-mandated head covering. And the scenes where Iranians battle it out in the street with state-security thugs weren’t shot on a film set in Canada. They’re real and were shot in Tehran.

Thanks to Dana.

  1. I think it’s important to click even if you don’t want to hear the musics cause of the view count will be seen and noted

  2. Good thing they’re an “exile band”. But even in our area in Michigan, Iranians who publicly leave the faith or go on record against their government come in for persecution – threatening phone calls, heavy social pressure, threats (to women) to send them back home.

I wish more people had this kind of courage. Heck, I wish that I did!

  5. Wow! A strong message and good music. Takes me back to the 60’s, but probably even more important.

  6. This video fits the song so well… I had to share it on Facebook for my friends to see. Bless those who are willing to fight for freedom from tyranny.

  7. Somebody SIGN THIS BAND. Looks, musicianship, story.

Oh, sorry. The American music business is dead as we know it.

    Good luck, Blurred Vision.

  8. This is totally sweet. I love the whole thing, the song, the attitude, the footage from the demonstrations, all of it. I also liked Totten’s comment in the article that when some Palestinian band in exile produces something like this, we will know there has been a sea change in the arab world.

  9. Big Pink Floyd fan here. They omitted the spine-tingling guitar solo, but the images provided enough chills to make up for it. Lets hope our leaders have enough “cojones” to help the protesters in Iran in any way we can. Lives are at stake.

  13. Birdbath: the beauty of the modern music industry is that a band can be enormously successful before they get signed.
