Participant in Past Smear of James O’Keefe to Do Profile of Breitbart

Everyone remember Robin Abcarian? She is the L.A. Times writer whose quotes from James O’Keefe were misrepresented by anti-Breitbart L.A. Times columnist James Rainey. When I queried her about it, she evaded my clear questions. When I called her on her evasions, she accused of a “prosecutorial attitude” and clammed up.

I think she would be the perfect person to do a profile of Andrew Breitbart for the L.A. Times, don’t you?

A little birdie tells me such a profile is in the works.

Funny how editors have decided that now is the right time for a profile. Since it will give them an opportunity to smear Breitbart over the Shirley Sherrod story once again.

Not that the paper is anything less than scrupulously fair when it comes to Breitbart. Oh, by the way, did you know that Shirley Sherrod has been “gracious” in the aftermath of her firing? It’s true! I read it in the L.A. Times! In a tearjerker about how locals in Albany, Georgia think she is the victim of racism, we actually see this actual line: “But for locals here, they still have the gracious example of Shirley Sherrod.”

Not mentioned: Sherrod’s ever-so-gracious statement that Breitbart “I think he’d like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery. That’s where I think he’s like to see all black people end up again.”

Gracious!

I wonder if this is the sort of evenhanded journalism that will be at work in the Breitbart profile.

Andrew, I have one piece of advice for you: record your interview. Unless you want to see pieces of the interview bubble up in distorted fashion in a future Rainey column.

I’m not kidding. It may sound like I am, but I’m not.

  1. “…to do profile of Breitbart”

“(T)o do a (a) profile” would involve basic journalism, would it not?
Who knew that journalism was still being practiced (or accomplished) at the Los Angeles Times?

no one … especially not the LAT’s employees and management

  3. I’m not sure that recording will prevent the soundbiting; provable truth can’t outrun the speed of innuendo, and most people believe, forever, the first thing they hear.

  4. My guess is that Mr. Breitbart will be recording, but not to defend himself. I’ll bet that his plan is to get Ms. A. to lose it during the interview. And then run that tape.

  5. Robin Abcarian also wrote a front-page ‘remembrance’ of Ronald Reagan the day after his death in 2004. She made a point to state that some medical experts say it was possible he had Alzheimer’s while in office, thereby casting aspersions on his Presidential leadership and decisions.

I wrote to her about it, and she replied that “experts” say this, she wasn’t saying this. Meanwhile, none of his White House doctors noticed anything of the sort. It was a weak, Pravda-like attempt to get in some last licks from the L.A. Times and Abcarian.

I get so pi$$ed, just thinking about it.

  6. Dueling recordings pending. At least one will be edited from an original that will be difficult to secure. Wonder which …

Yep – beat me to it, if “lose it” = “damage her own credibility.” He’s not exactly a defense player.

Of course the unedited tape will be useful for both aims, since they WILL try to misrepresent him. He knew even before the ACORN tapes how they operate.

His attack-dog personality’s a bit over the top for this introvert but he strikes me as a smart, relentless, courageous patriot dedicated to permanently changing political discourse in this country, and I have more and more admiration for him as the weeks and months go on.

You’re right, the NAACP should have come out with that unexcerpted Sherrod video before they condemned her. Plus, who can expect that the staff of the President of the United States would have any power to ask an organization for a complete video of a public event before making a firing decision?

But that reminds me — did anyone ever see Gov. Sarah Palin’s unexcerpted (not even to say unedited) interview with Mr. Gibson? How about Ms. Couric? Boy, they sure do keep those complete and unedited videos under wraps; you certainly got that right.

    no one you know (196ed7)

  10. The Sherrod video still has not been released in its unedited form. It is pretty clear that there is a segment taken out of the one they released.

Editing is only bad when a conservative does it. When it is done on the nightly news, ESPN, every newspaper, etc … it is okay. You have pointed out one of their more mendoucheous dishonest talking points, noyk.

  11. If Breitbart is stupid enough to grant the LA Times an interview under any circumstances, he can expect to be drawn and quartered, fried, fricasseed, and boiled in the bitches brew that passes for journalism among that pack of snarling and snapping yellow dogs.

Breitbart should avoid the LA Times like the plague of propaganda whores they most certainly have proved themselves to be, over and over.

  12. Yes, that original tape will be just as available as the one the LAT has with Barry giving a testamonial to that Arabist.

  14. re#5 – CORRECTION – it wasn’t Abcarian, it was that other columnist Patt Morrison. I’m still pi$$ed, though.

Yes, had forgotten about that. I would really, really like to know what everyone’s laughing at after the video cuts back in. IIRC correctly it wasn’t a long segment edited out — makes one suspicious about what the video editor was trying to hide.

    no one you know (196ed7)

  16. Speaking of unedited video: Just watched that video that’s up of Katie Couric making fun of Sarah Palin off the air. I didn’t think it was that inflammatory – but what shocked me was discovering how a person who reads for a living (!) could be such a poor reader! Good grief! How did she ever get her job as a news reader (“anchor”) if she can’t even do that?

    Gesundheit (5b507a)

  17. Patterico – My apologies for being a bit off topic, but isn’t having a “prosecutorial attitude” a good thing in your business?

BTW, I often suggest that our local journalists “commit journalism”. You may want to make the same suggestion to Ms. Abcarian.

  19. Abcarian is one of those low-rent bitter journalistic clingers at the LAT. But politically reliable.

  20. The next little embarrassing fact that is coming out about Sherrod is that her father was murdered by a relative, not the Klan.

Although Andrew (context is everything) will probably release a spliced copy of the tape and refuse to release to full, unabridged version, as per the ACORN tapes, the honest broker that he is.

    lobbey (9f31a7)

  22. lobbey, your attempt to slander Breitbart fails on your false assertion that Breitbart did not release the unedited ACORN tapes.

But that’s the kind of dishonesty we’ve come to expect from trolls who come to slam Breitbart.

LOL, what makes you think actually RECORDING them would stop that?

“Hey, if we print it, most people will remember that, no matter what revealed factual evidence later says”

  25. Eric, I’m afraid I hooten no idea who “lobbey” is …

  26. You would think they would just burst into flame when they speak the word “honest,” you know?

    Eric Blair (c95105)

  27. Breitbart did not release the unedited tapes. The Attorney General of the state of California did. You do not have the balls to watch all two hours of the videos available at the AG’s website.

    @SPQR (815562)

  28. The timeline about who and what released the tapes in off, but don’t let it get in the way of a good meme:

And why is he/she lying? Patterico addressed the very issue of the release of unedited tapes here, on this blog, often over the past.

  30. Just another troll, probably, the timeline is instructive, this was almost a week before Breitbart dropped the clip

  32. Telling Andy Breitbart that someone might distort what he says is like warning Bernie Madoff that an investment seems questionable.
