Concealed Carry on Colorado Campus

In a 5-4 vote, the Board of Regents at the University of Colorado voted to appeal a court decision allowing permit holders to carry concealed weapons on campus. Faculty members and students have also expressed support for the ban. Frankly, though, it sounds to me like the Regents should be unhappy with the Colorado legislature because it has not included college campuses in the list of places excluded from the Concealed Carry law.
And Ken Salazar isn’t having much luck in court these days.

I don’t think the appeal will get very far, the appellate court ruling is pretty well written. Overturning precedent here will only increase the difficulty of the legislature in controlling the university system and so I would be surprised if the Colorado Supreme Court reverses, if it even hears it.

Have Blue (854a6e) — 6/25/2010 @ 1:18 pmThe Denver Post, who has not been very honest in its reporting on the issue, conflates two things that were in the original suit. One was the ban on concealed carry permit holders – which simply and clearly violated the statutory language – and the second was the prohibition of any possession at all by students who lived on on-campus housing. The latter being pretty clearly both a violation of the statute and Colorado state constitutional provisions. Maybe even Federal constitutional provisions, depending on what language we see next week with the McDonald case at SCOTUS.
