PowerLine and the Houston Chronicle are a few of the many places honoring Dads today with some moving stories.

  1. This is a good day for fathers to sadly reflect on how startlingly diminished the opportunities available to their children have become in just two years I think.

  2. My father is still with us. He is 79 years old, curmudgeonly, decidedly non-PC, hard of hearing, and a chain smoker. He gave up so many of his dreams to provide for his family, and has never complained about it once. He taught me that “honor” and being a “gentleman” were not valueless concepts, but defined the core of the worth of a person.

He says fairly racist things often. Yet, as a firefighter, he has saved I couldn’t begin to list how many minority lives—CPR, stabilizing for paramedics, delivering babies, comforting the bereaved. My father has spent a large portion of his life running into burning buildings to save people.

I don’t say racist things. But I have never saved a single human life. So the world needs more “racists” like my father, and fewer sanctimonious types like me.

My father is a hero. I salute him today.

Happy Fathers’ Day to father and sons and daughters everywhere.

A good man… sounds like Walt Kowalski. Does he say “get off my lawn” ?

    Happy Father’s Day!
