Report: Van der Sloot Confesses

Filed under: Crime — DRJ @ 9:44 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

CBS News reports Joran van der Sloot has confessed to the murder of Peruvian Stephany Flores. In a way, her death may have been related to the death of Natalee Holloway:

“According to BNO the Holloway case played a roll [sic] in the Flores killing. BNO reports that police say van der Sloot said he hit Flores because she saw private information on his computer regarding Holloway.”

Van der Sloot has apparently been questioned since he was returned to Peru following his arrest:

“Sunday the Associated Press reported that Joran van der Sloot would spend all week at criminal police headquarters being questioned in the death of Flores. He had asked to be able to hire his own lawyer, authorities said Sunday.

Flores’ May 30 killing was five years to the day after Holloway’s disappearance. Flores was a business student who police say he met playing poker at a casino.”

How sad if the coincidence in timing and her curiosity contributed to Stephany’s death.

  1. It would appear whatever she saw about Holloway on his computer was incriminating. What I’m curious about is, did he already have the screen up with the Holloway information right there and if so, why? Did Perfuvian Stephany Flores log on and if so, where was Van der Sloot at? Also how did she know where to find anything about Holloway on it? It will be interesting to get the full story.

The paper quoted Van der Sloot as saying, “I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life.”

This animal should never be allowed to see the light of day again.

  2. I suspect what she saw was the recently disclosed attempts to get Natalee Holloway’s mother to pay cash for Natalee’s remains. Perhaps just a message from the mother hit his inbox, or he had assembled some information for the payoff and left it easy to find.

Just seems more like she saw a ‘you’ve got mail’ message about that rather than Van der Sloot having some folder of murder photos.

But this may be some kind of excuse and a lie. The timing is just too perfect for the kind of person who would kill a bunch of girls. Flores was probably dead as soon as she was with this guy in private.

  3. And I will bet he hasn’t been sitting back doing nothing for the past five years. Somewhere, there are others.

  4. does Peru have the death penalty?

  6. The irony is that is Che Guevara were in power there, Van der Sloot would be dead already.

  7. Bluntly, I’m not 100% buying this. I am not saying he is innocent. Nope, he is clearly guilty. But I think he is telling whatever story he can to try to reduce his sentence.

He was there a total of 4 hours with her. On Greta last night they showed what the room was like. There was barely anything more than a bed there. and he wants to pretend she had a chance to do investigation without his knowledge? and coincidentally he spontaneously decides to kill her on the 5th anniversary of the murder of the other girl.

NOT BUYING IT. It doesn’t add up. I think when he took her up there, he planned to kill her. I think its that simple.

And i concurr strongly with everyone who says he’s probably killed others.

Btw, as far as the death penalty, supposedly they don’t even give life in prison (rolls eyes). But then again Jeffrey Dahmer wasn’t SENTENCED to death, but all they had to do was mix him in with the general population and that is what he got.

  8. As to the penalty; life in a Peruvian jail ain’t like doing time in the U.S. It makes hard time here look like a kiddy park.

It’s interesting that his father just died in Feb., I’m guessing that’s why he folded so quickly; no one on the outside with connections to come to the rescue.

Also, why do I have the feeling that he was interrogated the ‘old school’ way? No miranda rights for him.

I heard he was given his Carmen Miranda rights, so he had the right to dance, but not remain silent. (sorry, couldn’t resist).

  10. Wonder how the Dutch and Aruban Authorities will now react to the this pathological killer doing it again.

When it was an American, the victim was a crazy slut who deserved it because George Boooosh was evil and we kill lots of innocent,pure-as-the-driven sand Arabs. Plus there was no proof DONT YA KNOW.

I never detected anti-americanism in the reaction over the disappearance.

  12. Wonder how much of the blackmail money is now going to pay for a hit in a Peruvian prison?

  13. Was he waterboarded, who cares if he was,who would listen to thier whineing in peru if they demanded an investigation? Enquireing minds want to know.

  14. I wonder if Flores’ father will pay to have Van Der Slut shot while escaping?

  17. “Water Boarding” in Peru means they tie you to a board and dip it in piranha infested waters. If the Piranha leave you alone you are guilty, if they eat you, then you were innocent.

I didn’t realize it was just in November. Wasn’t it in March that he started the extortion plot with Natalie Holloway’s family?

  18. Jeffrey Dahmer testified against two men who raped another in prison. At least we were told he was the chief witness for the prosecution during jury selection (I was excused). I think this would have marked him, though he may have been a prestige target anyway.

  19. There may have been no anti-Americanism involved in the Holloway case, but there certainly was politics and money at play.

Bad things need to happen to this murderer.

that is more than a little hard to wrap my head around.

First, they were going to prosecute for rape in prison? um, since when do they care?

Second, jeffrey dahmer was going to be an important witness. um, if i was a prosecutor and my chief witness was a serial killer, i wouldn’t bother.

Third, and they were worried enough that a jury would believe jeffrey dahmer that they killed him.

huh. i know people do things that make no sense, but i find that all a little tough to swallow. i always assumed it was because he killed minorities and all that, in sort of an occam’s razor kind of way, but you could be right. it just requires alot of people to act in ways that don’t entirely make sense to me.

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  21. He was killed later. I have no idea what happened at the trial but the prosecutors were concerned about the nature of their witness enough to start with a large pool and explain the nature of the offense and the name of the witness so that people with difficulties could request being excused. The trial was to last six to eight weeks if I recall.

This is what we were told. If you think it was a lie or that I am lying then I don’t know what to suggest. I did not ask to be excused but I always am as neither side wants me. This would have been 1980s or early 1990s I think.

    Machinist (497786)

  22. The trial was in Santa Clara, California.

  23. #8, AW, is right about the current story not holding water. Look at her posture as she follows him to her death like a puppy dog. Head down, she maintains the interval behind him and never looks up or to either side.

She looks drugged, like he slipped her a ruhipi in the casino and was under his control. If there’s an autopsy the facts might come out and put the lie to this cock and bull story.

BTW, anyone know the whereabouts of the Kalpo brothers? They just might have some splainin’ to do.

let me be very clear about one thing. i wouldn’t intentionally suggest you were lying without better evidence than that. i am skeptical of the story, but there are lots of ways for the story to be wrong without any lying involved.

i guess for me, its hard to believe, but i will look into it sometime in my (Ha!) spare time.

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  25. Thank you. It is possible it is an advanced case of CRS. I am well along that road.

    Machinist (497786)

  26. machinest

yeah, i did some quick googling around and can’t find anything about that. which is not the same as saying you’re wrong; this is not the kind of thing google is very likey to catch, if only because the story is old. so i will file it mentally under “interesting theory.”

I will note he was bludgeoned to death, which suggests an angry killing, as opposed to the legendary shiv. but that isn’t the end of the inquiry. also his mother said something to the effect of “he’s dead, are you happy now.” mmm, my response would be “pretty much, yeah.”

  27. Let’s hope that his laptop was recovered and will be subjected to forensic analysis.

Who knows what gems the authorities may find?

  28. Calfed

truely. very few people know how to truly wipe a hard drive.

forensic computer skills can bring up nasty stuff.

could the guy have been retarded enough to have kept photos or something? or was this just emails in the extortion attempt? eh, who knows?

    Aaron Worthing (e7d72e)

  29. Wasn’t Dahmer in prison in Wisconsin? Why would the rape trial be in Santa Clara, Ca?

I think, possibly, you may be confusing your serial killers.

    Americano (dccda5)

  30. America

    > you may be confusing your serial killers.

Wait, wasn’t that killer with the middle name “Wanye.” (yes, that is a joke)

its possible for it to be in santa clara, perhaps on some federally related beef. but it does raise more questions.

i still tend to go with occam’s razor. they killed him because he singled out minorities. and honestly, i can’t be mad about it, whatever the cause. He deserved it. hell, he deserve worse.

  31. Re: my comment at #24, there is new video of Van der Sloot and his victim meeting in the casino and leaving together. She looks OK, animated and in control of herself, as opposed to her zombie walk into his hostel.

If he drugged her, it was on the way to his room. I’d like to see time stamps on both sets of vids to determine if they stopped along the way for drinks.

  33. I would add that if he drugged her in the casino, it may have started to take effect by the time they reached the hostel. I’m sure that if toxicology shows she was drugged and Van der Sloot denies it, they will be looking carefully at the casino surveillance tapes to try and pin it down.
