  1. Good Grief, these mucks add real meaning the the term “Expect the Unexpected”.

It looks like President Hope-n-Change is getting thrashed by a Reality…too bad he won’t recognize it.

    MJN1957 (6e1275)

  2. Surely, this was unexpected.

  3. Remember when Kerry kept using that bulls#t leftist lie that President Bush was the 1st President since Hoover to have a net loss of jobs? I think we should use the leftists metrics to measure their performance.

    JD (d55760)

  4. How many more “unexpected” developments can we survive?

I suppose that when the media stops using the term, the bloom will truly be off the rose, and they’ll finally admit that they led us down the path to perdition (or not).

  5. this is unprecedented.

    i blame Bush.

    redc1c4 (fb8750)

  6. And today is my last day at work after 25 years with Boeing. Thanks Obama.

    PatriotRider (8d9a6f)

  7. But I thought all was well. Are you calling the Pres a liar? Where’s JD? A denouncement is in order.

  8. I think we have just come to the end of a small blip up in the economic slide of Obamadom. The stock market is trying to tell us something.

I’m going to Spain next week with my daughter for some conference she wants to go to. If it were at the end of summer, I wouldn’t think of it. By September, I fear Spain will look like Greece. Europe’s house will be falling down except for Germany and, interestingly enough, France.

Unless the Republicans figure this out and start to adopt the tea parties’ agenda, we will have a mixed result in November and then all hell will break loose.

  10. ==world is jittery==

Well, in the misery loves company department I guess I am glad to see that I am not alone in feeling jittery.

  11. So what you’re saying is our vaunted Navy what we spend so many monies on is useless useless useless if one of our enemy people were to take a little tour of the Gulf of Mexico with torpedos what knock a bunch of blowout preventers offline?

    That’s wonderful.

Our gay-assed military what professes to be so concerned about teh evil climate changings (it’s a threat to national securitah!) should feel a very special pride as they gaze upon the polluted Gulf and reflect upon their deep deep uselessness is what I think.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  12. feets – So what you are saying is that our bad ass military what doesn’t drill for oil should become expert at undersea oil drilling technology? Isn’t that a gay ass position to take?

    daleyrocks (1d0d98)

  13. feets…what the hell are you talking about?
Since when was it the job of the Navy to protect oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico?

BTW, if there were hostile subs patrolling the Gulf, the only way we would hear about is when the debris from them washed up on some shore
(if they aren’t hostile, they would be politely escorted out of the area – you would be surprised at how convincing the inadvertant drop of practice depth-charges can be).
The Navy pointedly does not talk about ASW “exercises”.

  14. I think if they want to prance around in their fabulous uniforms preening about climate change then they should be less than fucking useless when there’s an actual environmental problem what is real.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  15. For reals you’re not a little shocked that the Navy and the Coast Guard never wargamed this?

Me I am shocked, especially since they’re so environmentally thenthitive these days.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  16. Jobless claims are up, the stock market is down, but a country boy can survive.

    redc1c4 (fb8750)

  17. “For reals you’re not a little shocked that the Navy and the Coast Guard never wargamed this?”

    Is Greenpeace attacking again?

    daleyrocks (1d0d98)

  18. So a Nefarious Evildoer can just waltz into the gulf and create environmental mayhem and America is defenseless against the ensuing environmental carnage?

    This is not good.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  19. DoD does not discuss “contingency plans”, just as Supreme Court nominees never discuss hypotheticals.
DoD is correct in this, Justice nominees are not.

    AD - RtR/OS! (9200e9)

  20. Well I figured they at least had a contingency plan Another Drew person but I’m kinda thinking they don’t.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  21. I have links.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  22. They have contingency plans for if they get global warmed though.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  23. And you are positive about someone being able to “waltz” into the Gulf because of what?

There are quite a few DoD, and USCG assets deployed in the approaches to the Gulf – their primary mission would be to interdict drug-traffickers, but they might have their attention pulled away from that if a sub showed up (a vessel that has been known to be used for drug-smuggling out of Colombia BTW – so it might already be in the mission plan).
After the events in the Gulf and Atlantic Coastal shipping lanes leading up to Pearl Harbor, the Navy is a bit sensitive about submarines of foreign entities operating in and adjacent to U.S. coastal waters. They, unlike some of our political class, have long memories.

    AD - RtR/OS! (9200e9)

  24. happyfeet, this is starting to sound like you have been reading some conspiracy nutjob stuff. No one sailed into the gulf and attacked BP’s oil rig.

    No one.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  25. No they didn’t attack SPQR and yes Mr. Drew it might could be tricky but if they succeeded we’d be in a pickle apparently.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  26. IIRC, the area is still under SOSUS coverage, which would make it difficult for a sub to sneak in undetected.

    redc1c4 (fb8750)

  27. well that is definitely somewhat reassuring red

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  28. happyfeet,

I don’t think it will every possible to fully harden even crucial economic factor.

Our protection against that sort of attack is the deterrent value of our military. I am reminded of how Osama calculated that we would react to 9/11 the way we reacted to the many attacks leading up to it. North Korea’s obviously made a similar calculation.

If North Korea had blasted our rig (yes, I know, no one attacked the one that actually blew up), what would Barack Obama do about it?

We should ask that question before we elect our leadership.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  29. Sorry about the typos. You have to ask yourself, what will the military do if I brutalize the English language?

That’s why I happily terrorize your brains.

    Dustin (b54cdc)

  30. ok but it seems pretty clear that this sort of vulnerability needs to be resolved if our little country is going to be able to drill the oils, and if a consequence of this mishap is that it slows down the drillings then it has made our national security worser I think

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  31. its ok feet: the current condition of the USN is all Bush’s fault.

    redc1c4 (fb8750)

  32. Bush was the best president my whole life.

hey here is a happy story except it’s kind of sad-making

“I have always maintained that what I did isn’t necessarily technical, it’s about seeing things differently,” he says.

kinda weird how this is a story about stuff that just happened a couple weeks ago… it hits a road to recovery note that doesn’t really fit I think

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  33. Tax season has ended, so the workers temporarily employed at Block and the rest are now looking for paid work. 800,000 temporary Census workers were hired, and are now cut loose so presumably a great number of them are looking for work.

There is just too much slack and excess capacity in the economy to make a dent in that Unemployment Rate. As the months and years roll by, the disconnect between skills needed and the skills available will continue to grow.

    TimesDisliker (b55dc2)

  34. my census person tracked me down last weekend she was tricky and came on Sunday but it took her four visits

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  35. We filed a Census return and still had 4 contacts from 4 different Census workers. It was ridiculous.

    DRJ (d43dcd)

  36. Thanks for the great link, TimesDisliker.

    DRJ (d43dcd)

  37. wow. You’re good.

    happyfeet (71f55e)

  38. feets – It’s a known fact the radical Islamists are training dolphins to attack oil rigs with explosives. They have all those rigs to practice on in the Persian Gulf and elsewhere, it is an easy thing for them to do.

    Suicide dolphins. THE HORROR

Where is PETA when we need them?

    The fiends.

    daleyrocks (1d0d98)

  39. Oh, I’ve got links.

    daleyrocks (1d0d98)

  40. here is a funny from a WSJ commenter:

I wonder how many more pics of the oil washed up in that patch of reeds (about the size of my living room) they’re going to take before they let BP clean it up? Nothing quit like a wide angle lens and a close up.

That pic of Bobby Jindal with a dip net, reminds me of huffy-puffy Sean Penn using a dixie cup to bail out NO. Heck, if your going out there to take a look, throw out some straw and clean that puddle up before you come back.

So far I’m deeply unimpressed with Jindal.

    happyfeet (c8caab)

  41. oh. Jake Gyllenhaal would never let that happen I don’t think daley.

    happyfeet (c8caab)

  42. But we must be vigilant.
