Steyn on the Decline of the West, Part 427

Mark Steyn is noted for his wry and informed take on many topics, especially the decline of Western civilization. Today’s installment looks at Canadian support of Islamic hate speech:
“The Jewish Defence League held a demonstration today in Toronto at Palestine House, one of the many jihadist front organizations without which no sophisticated multicultural western city is complete. Tomorrow night, for example, they’re hosting the editor of the London newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Abd al-Bari Atwan. Mr Atwan is a celebrity eliminationist who declared on TV that “if the Iranian missiles strike Israel, by Allah, I will go to Trafalgar Square and dance with delight.” Because Palestine House is government-funded, Mr Atwan’s appearance to share this and other insights is effectively being underwritten by Canadian taxpayers.”
Steyn concludes:
“Lenin famously said the west would “sell us the rope by which we will hang them. He was underestimating our suicidal stupidity: We’re happy to give it away.”
No one can sum up and skewer in the same sentence quite like Steyn.

(8b509d) — 4/2/2010 @ 8:18 pmJust so I have the gross level of outrageous hypocrisy straight in my mind: Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant were hauled before the Human Rights Commission (or whatever it was) in Canada for hate speech or inciting hate with the Steyn article in MacLeans and Levant’s publishing of the Danish cartoons, and yet this outfit that is clearly inciting hate, discrimination and even threatening death to the Jews while being subsidized by the Canandian government.
In what universe does this make sense???

As a notorious “Islamophobe”, I certainly don’t begrudge anybody his Judeophobia. What I don’t understand is why Canadian taxpayers should subsidize it.’
Steyn is one of our best at telling it like it is.

They’re incredibly silly about their rampant PC – ness, but now they’re rapidly approaching the tipping point into outright insanity.
Dmac (21311c) — 4/3/2010 @ 8:04 amCanada still has not recovered from the 60s and Trudeau. It is really three countries, it seems to me. There is Quebec, which everyone there seems to equate with European sophistication although I don’t believe it has had a positive GDP since World War II. There are the western provinces that have more in common with us than the rest of Canada except British Columbia which has taken on a sort of San Francisco Je ne sais quoi. Ottawa seems to be trying to hold everyone together by being all things to all people. The Newfoundland provinces would be better off as part of Maine. The western provinces pay for the whole thing and everyone knows it.
One day, a Muslim will blow himself up in Toronto and the fat will be in the fire.
