Stupak’s Opponent Now Numbering Over 10,000 on Facebook

I’ll contribute to Dr. Benishek as I plan my exit from my 24 year private practice.

I did my residency in Stupak’s district and I moonlighted once or twice in the ER at Crystal Falls after Dr. Benishek came in 1983(I can’t remember if I met him).

Stupak called ‘baby-killer’ on House floor

“Rep. John Campbell (R-Calif.) acknowledged late Sunday night that a Republican yelled “baby killer” as Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) urged his fellow Democrats to vote down a Republican amendment on abortion services in the health-care legislation.

The remark drew immediate shouts of derision from the Democratic side of the aisle, as Stupak is considered the leading anti-abortion Democrat and held out his support for the legislation until President Obama issued an executive order restating the ban on federal funding of abortion.

Campbell, initially suspected as the lawmaker who shouted the phrase, told reporters that he didn’t say it and believed that it came from a member sitting a row behind him, where the Texas Republicans usually sit. Campbell said he heard “a Southern accent”.

“The people who know won’t give it up,” Campbell told reporters.

He said the remark was “clear as a bell.”

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) said he heard the remark and said it did come from in the area of where the Texas and California delegations sit. He said he believes he knows who yelled it, but declined to say anymore.

And I think it’s 100% legit to call Stupak a baby killer. Stupak is on the record saying that he thinks this bill will kill what he defines as sacred human life. He’s more of an Uncle Tom than any of the democrat’s favorite winners of the label ever were.

That Barton knows the person who amusingly said that makes me wonder just how awesome his staff on the hill might be. I don’t want a bunch of Poindexter republicans. I want the kind of passionate people who are outraged and ready to admit it to be handling the day to day affairs of a House office. I guess that’s too much to hope for and it’s just a protesting constituent.

Dems and Reps have reason to be disgusted with Stupak and Obama and Pelosi for handling such a huge domestic bill without any sense for honesty or openness. So many special deals, so many CBO tricks (the bill costs $3 trillion in its first *real* ten years), so many procedural tricks, so many lies and demonizations (they took out the death panel section and then pretended it was never there). Stupak was one of many democrats who proved which party out to run the show.

I am sure Stupak is shaking in fear of all the OUT OF STATE supporters of his opponent. Stupak usually carries 60%+ of the vote, I don’t think he’s all that worried.

But go ahead and tell yourselves that signing up on a Facebook page is going to mean something… some people drown their sorrows in drink, others go out and kick the cat, I figure posting nasty comments aimed at Stupak is a pretty harmless (and useless) way of relieving some of the frustration.

And you should all shouldn’t be too mad at Stupak, he ended up doing just we should have expected him to do; you can’t blame him for doing what comes naturally to Democrats any more than you can blame a dog for licking his own crotch. You’re really mad at yourselves for thinking that Stupak would provide the votes necessary to kill the bill… just as you blame yourselves for having nominated a hapless clown like McCain to run against Obama, for not having pressured the GOP to clean up its act five + years ago and for excusing Bush’s stupidity and inaction in dealing with the GOP idiots in Congress during the 2000s.

Thing is, he was always wrong about the bill. Liberals knew this, and thus why we disliked him. And the GOP for some reason was pinning their hopes on him.

But it was nice to see the pro-life caucus declaring this bill pro-life in the language that pro-choicers use. Talking about support for pregnant women, covering kids, etc…

My money goes down that Stupak WON’T be getting 60% of the votes after the egregious decision to vote yes on deathcare. Statistics indicate abortions will go up 30%. The blood of every baby who is aborted is on Stupak’s hands.

Benedict Stupak is a name that will live in infamy. And rightly so.

To Steve Sturm, I AM a Michigan resident, and a voter. Unfortunately, I’m not in Benedict’s district. Oh, and money sent from out of state is still money for the campaign. Stupak would do well to worry.

Dude, I’m guilty as charged on all counts. But I gotta move on from there constructively, despite being pretty naive. It was partly conservative turnout that sank Mccain, and while I completely understand why Mccain doesn’t deserve the loyalty of the right, it’s annoying right now that he isn’t the president and Obama is passing bills that I repeatedly said wouldn’t pass (because they are simply ridiculous from a deficit perspective alone).

Stupak, as you say, is just one of many democrats who I don’t really think is the figurehead for healthcare so much as a great example of their BS process.

Stupak took a higher percentage than Obama or McCain in 2008… and with his district getting some new federal money, I’m pretty sure he’s going to keep his seat.

Steve, if the anger at Stupak was solely from the right, I’d agree with you.

I think it’s clever to use someone who recently was considered a Governor contender, and had a high percentage in the last election, but now has burned a lot of bridges, as a message. But it’s not like the opposition to him is particularly organized. GOP.com is more focused on the majority and Pelosi.

But I’d bet Stupak loses his seat.

There is/was a reason why people like Stupak and Casey run as “pro-life democrats”, because they know that their constituency is more “pro-life” than “pro-abortion” when they are forced to think about it.

The question is will enough of those voters wake up, pay attention, and hear the message.

Methinks, Mr. Sturm, thou art attempting to not only report history, but influence it, if only in a modest means.

It seems to me Mr. Daschle fell with the help of resources that came out of state, and as said before, Sen. Brown sure received a lot of encouragement, not sure how much material help he received.

The Dems certainly think it works with what they did for the guy that was put into the senator’s seat in Minn, and did their best to take out Bachman from out of state.

So, please, continue to tell us that we are helpless and hopeless, and laugh with your buddies about how gullible we are.

Stupak and Hoyer are only a little bit worried, because they know that even if they lose the election, and even if Coburn blocks appointments, they will get some appointment from Obama to be a “czar” over something or other that doesn’t need Congressional approval…at least for 2 years. (Maybe appointed as regional supervisors of the IRS brownshirts.)

As I said elsewhere, I think the last true pro-life Democrat in the public eye as Gov. Bob Casey, who they would not let speak.

I agree with AW that facebook is kinda an uncertain sort of measure, but these seem to be real people with real outrage coming together.

Sarah Palin has showed that facebook is capable of affecting the law. The Death Panel’s provision was removed from the legislation because of her facebook complaint, if I recall correctly.

but it’s super easy to click a couple of times. It takes more to give money, to drive to a protest, to volunteer. All those indicators show something big, and real.

The Coffee Party was, indeed, bullshit astroturf.

These strong trends have been occurring for almost a year. If these trends are strengthened because of this vote, then it appears that the Democratic Party has achieved a Pyrrhic victory. This experiment in single-party control of the government is unlikely to continue.

Despite the majority of the American People disapproving of this legislation and despite the fact that the only bipartisan support in Congress was in opposition to it (34 Dems, all 178 Repubs), the single-party in power passed it (narrowly). They thwarted the Will of the People and some members of their own party. Once again proving:

Tyranny comes in many forms and even more names (the trick is to recognize it, which this polling indicates most have). The pattern is always the same — take power from the People. Fortunately we can turn to those previous generations of Americans who found their Liberty threatened; only to triumph against those who tried to take it. The election years 2010 and 2012 are looking brighter that ever.

I think you miss the significance. This guy has never run for office but I’ll bet you that he knows 75% of the people in the Upper Peninsula. He’s operated on somebody in everybody’s family. My guess is that he’s pretty good and well liked. Now, after 37 years, his kids are grown and he’s ready to raise some hell about a topic that he knows well. He was helped with the Facebook page and somebody is helping with his web site. There are thousands of people trying to give him money. I would say this is a genuine movement and all he needs to do now is learn to give a speech. Every doctor, except pathologists and radiologists, learn how to talk to strangers. Some are not good speaking in large groups but we’ll see how he does.

If you want to see somebody who has made the transition pretty well, look at Tom Coburn. He is one Senator who tells it like it is. This fellow may be another one.

If I were Stupak, I would be thinking about a career change. There are a lot of people angry at him.

By the way, the latest ploy on tea parties and health care is that the protestors are racist and supposedly yelled epithets to the Black Caucus who just happened to walk by Saturday. You know what ?

There are lots of video tapes of that event and those black Congress critters walking past. They have sound and there are no epithets. Look for a video on Breitbart soon.

I just can’t help but think that the folks joining the hate-Stupak club are merely folks who don’t like the new healthcare bill. The pro-life stuff is a facade. Stupak calculated he couldn’t get what he wanted through the senate. So getting it through the house would have been a Pyrrhic victory. The executive order was the best he could pull off.

If I were anti-choice, I’d say he did all that he could do on my behalf. However, if I were anti-healthcare legislation, I’d have wished Stupak would have sacrificed what he did gain so I could get what I wanted. But that would make him seem stupid. And it would be stupid of me to think he should harm his efforts to ban abortion.

Today, on 3/22 the index is at -12. Two days ago, on the 20th, the index was at -21. That’s a gain of 9 points.

It was never about abortion for Stupak, that was just a hook to make the voters think he was thinking of them – months ago he said that he would vote for health-care reform even if abortion funding was in it.
He sold his a$$ for improvements at three small airports in his district, and DNC re-election support.
He better hope it will be enough – but I kind of think that his words disavowing his abortion position (see above) will be on every TV station and cable outfit in his district from now till Nov.
In Pro-Life circles, he will be seen for the Judas that he is.

So Rasmussen polls have an inherent bias for getting the opinions of idiots and fools.

Which no doubt is why Obama is doing as well as he is, with 29% “strongly approving” of that walking sack of excreta. After this last week’s performances, those numbers ought to be in the single digits for both Democrats as a whole and Obi One.
