Poor Johnny, that pretty head of hair isn’t going to fare well in prison.
/yeah, like he’ll serve any time.
Old Coot (9e58d8) — 3/3/2010 @ 1:29 pmi just want to know who and what he has to trade in the way of info to avoid the big house…
he’s gonna have to give somebody up if he doesn’t want to spend a few years giving it up.
redc1c4 (fb8750) — 3/3/2010 @ 2:02 pmThis could be for real since it is being reported by a reputable source. If this was from the make it up as they go NYT I’d dismiss it.
Largebill (1d1579) — 3/3/2010 @ 2:12 pmOne day surely even the Pulitzer people will have to accept that the National Enquirer has done a superb job of reporting on John Edwards, and has frankly embarrassed most of the rest of the news media with its coverage of all of his phoniness and scandals.
PatHMV (c0c73a) — 3/3/2010 @ 2:21 pmLargebill: The National Enquirer, IIRC, was the first media institution to report on Edwards affair. Other big names knew about it, but for some very strange reason were keeping mum about it.
Newtons.Bit (a67c58) — 3/3/2010 @ 2:39 pmsurely its not something trivial like foreign source campaign contributions – oops that would be the Fed DOJ investigation – they are too non partisan to investigate anything trivial. NC state investigating must mean something real serious
Joe (05b20d) — 3/3/2010 @ 2:41 pmThe Enquirer teaser that DRJ linked says it’s a federal grand jury. Federal grand juries sit in every state, of course, including North Carolina. It wouldn’t surprise me if the DoJ folks concluded they’d have a better chance prosecuting Edwards there, despite his ostensible home-court advantage, than in the other most likely venue for a federal criminal prosecution arising out of federal campaign laws, i.e., the District of Columbia.
Beldar (13c2a3) — 3/3/2010 @ 4:29 pmSay, wasn’t a career prosecutor at DoJ, one involved with the New Black Panther case, just recently transferred to the Carolina’s (to keep him away from a Commission on Civil Rights subpoena IIRC)?
AD - RtR/OS! (b0c091) — 3/3/2010 @ 4:43 pmMight he have anything to do with this?
Bubba and Antoine are going to be riding that Silky Pony!
GeneralMalaise (2e0f70) — 3/3/2010 @ 5:18 pmThe National Enquirer? What have they ever gotten right? Especially on political figures.
Why, rumors from them are worthless, and expending energy on them is silly. It’s an irresponsible rag with no truth-seeking whatsoever.
–JRM, and…. yeah, internet subtlety is hard
JRM (de6363) — 3/3/2010 @ 6:10 pmBefore we start praising the National Enquirer for its iconoclastic tabloid integrity, remember that this paper routinely gets it wrong. E.g., it was one of may media outlets that took Levi Johnson as a source, and reported in screaming headlines on the imminent breakup of Sarah Palin’s marriage. The paper also takes great license with people who – for legal or practical reasons – cannot sue for defamation, e.g., the departed and presidents of the United States.
It should still get the Pulitzer for having a reporter chase Edwards into the men’s room, though.

Knock Me Over with a Feather… Fed Grand Jury about to Indict Democrat “Lying Baby Daddy” John Edwards « Frugal Café Blog Zone (a66042) — 3/4/2010 @ 11:34 amI think they are tucking Edwards away so his problems don’t get worse.
Edwards in jail for a few years shuts him up in a different way than Elizabeth putting out a book, Andrew Young putting out a book, Rielle/Lisa putting out YouTube movies about Edwards’ ‘old soul’ and the general drumbeat-truth of Democrats-cheating-on-their-wives-and-by-extension-anyone.
