Desirée Rogers Resigns (Updated)

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 1:38 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

The White House announced today that Social Secretary Desirée Rogers is leaving her post:

“White House social secretary Desiree Rogers, a friend of President Obama’s from Chicago, is leaving her job to return to the private sector, the White House said Friday.

Rogers’s tenure as the top party and events planner for the administration was marred by the Salahi gate-crashing incident, in which a Virginia couple managed to enter the White House grounds during Obama’s first state dinner in November.”

The link notes conflicting statements regarding whether Rogers’ departure was voluntary or requested, but the White House had been criticized for refusing to allow Rogers to testify into Congressional hearings on the Salahi incident.

UPDATE: Andrew Malcolm at the LA Times’ Top of the Ticket looks at “what’s really behind the departure of Desirée Rogers from Obama’s White House.”

  1. Desiree Rogers is Chicago aristocracy. She’s probably leaving out of frustration that she has not been able to teach the clod how to shake hands and Michelle how not to dip her cornpone in the gravy bowl.

  2. Not that there’s anything wrong with dipping your cornpone in the gravy bowl but some people don’t like it.

  3. No great loss to the Obama White House. She’s a crony of the couple; and enjoyed playing Lady of the Manor at the White House social events instead of doing her job. You know the deal is that if you’re Social Director, you’re supposed to be working while others play. She didn’t get the “working” part of the time equation.

Obama might be well served to ditch some of his other cronies.

  4. we’d be better served if we ditched Ear Leader AND all his cronies…..

there’s that underutilized prison, conveniently enough in Illinois, where they could spend the rest of their days bullshitting each other about how great they are, while we repair the damage they have deliberately wrecked upon this country and the rest of the world.

  5. I wonder what private sector job she will grace with her presence? Maybe the U of Chicago hospital has those dirty poor people cluttering up the ER again, since Michelle left her job to move to Washington. That might be a job she can fill.

  6. that position was created when the First Klingon needed reportable income, and disappeared when she moved into government housing in DC…..

  8. Ms. Rogers first role was heading up the IL state tourism office, then she went on to the IL state film office, proceeding on to the IL state lottery – do you see a pattern here? All were political appointments, none were based on merit. The only thing she’s good for in the private sector is as a hack lobbyist, for which she’s more than well – prepared for.

  9. They probably have already secured her a soft sinecure on K-Street with pay in the mid six-figures.

  12. Interesting story. I thought that the White House had weathered that storm and for them to drop kick her now only draws attention back. You have to wonder what else is going on here.

Her political skills certainly left a lot to be desired.
And, it seems her sense of entitlement is only exceeded by that of her boss.
