White House Responds to Massachusetts’ Loss

The Obama Administration is responding to Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts by bringing back its 2008 campaign manager:

“Senior White House officials tells ABC news that Obama for America campaign manager David Plouffe will soon set up shop at the Democratic National Committee to oversee House, Senate, and gubernatorial races this fall, in what is shaping up to be a difficult political environment for Democrats.

“Plouffe is one of the smartest guys in the business, he has the full trust of the President and his team, and we appreciate any and all help he can give us,” White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said. “This is a very challenging political environment and you want all the best players on the field.”

Brown ran as a candidate focused on the economy and being the 41st vote against ObamaCare. His win suggests the public believes the White House is headed in the wrong direction on these issues. It seems Obama and the White House believe the problem isn’t their policies but how they’re being sold.

  1. Running for president is an exercise in marketing. Governing is an exercise in leadership. I don’t know if the White House understands the difference between the two.

  2. Typical response of a narcissist when in trouble. It isn’t policy, it is that people just don’t understand. If they understood, then they wouldn’t be against it. We understand it. We just don’t agree with it.

    Narcissists never “get” that.

  3. Yes, of course — the reason people don’t agree with Obama and his goals is because he hasn’t talked enough yet…

You’ll note this appears to be his approach to resolving terrorism, and dealing with Iran’s nuclear ambitions, too…

The really, really hilarious part about this post is that almost every point the guy makes is essentially correct.

But — BUT — in each case his explanation of why he’s correct is for all the wrong reasons entirely, meaning that ANY adjustment he supports would be utterly and totally dunderheaded.

Obama’s “former” supporters on the left all seem to be of the same stripe: “We haven’t screwed things up enough to fix them correctly yet.

Whew. The mike is off, right? Ha ha. Yeah, and when he loses any of those races I’ll be talking about how Plouffe went “pouf” on us – his turn under the bus! What, the mike Isn’t off? Cut – Cut the feed NOW!!!………

  8. People blame Steve Schmidt for running a lukewarm campaign that never hit Obama on key points… winning arguments that many voters never heard because Obama is black and his associations with Rev Wright and Ayers would somehow be insensitive.

I kinda think some of that is because that’s who Mccain is. A man of comity and someone who actually believed Obama’s race should be a relevant aspect of the election. Schmidt has proven himself to be a jerk and a jackass in a few ways outside the election, but I can’t really blame Schmidt for presenting the Mccain campaign as soft on democrats and perhaps not all that conservative or even interested. I don’t even blame Mccain… that’s who he is and who the GOP actually nominated. It would have been surprising if he hadn’t been this way.

Similarly, Plouffe has a certain party to present in these congressional elections. A party that looks to George W Bush to oppose, because to them, Bush is still the president and still responsible and must be stopped. They are more interested in cap and tax, controlling the medical field, and increasing the scope of government than they are in facing their mistakes and explaining how they are going to change from the 2006-2010 Democrats into something the voters want.

So when people blame Plouffe for the likely November setbacks for the democrats, that will be unfair. He doesn’t have much to work with.

  9. Didn’t you get the memo? Obviously Brown’s win in Massachusetts is a result of the same desire for Hope and Change that put Barack Obama in the White House. The election is over, and the voters have spoken, so let’s get to work and pass healthcare.

  11. Obama thinks the difference for the Democrats this year from 1994 is that–they’ve got him.The winning strategy this year is I’m the same as Scott Brown.
