Senior CL-ASS Prank
[Guest post by DRJ]
“A spelling prank in a class photo for more than 600 seniors at Cypress Ridge High School led to the suspension of three students.
Some students wore T-shirts spelling out “CLASS” as part of “Class of 2010” in a formal shot.
But in a later informal shot, students representing “C” and “L” moved from the front row, leaving behind a different three-letter word.”
Three students were suspended and five were fined $135 each, presumably the five wearing the letters. I’m not sure whether the “A”, the “S”, the second “S”, or someone else was the third suspended student. Apparently “C” and “L” could not be reached for comment.

Think of the fun that could have been had with “Good Luck Class of 2010.”
JVW (48cbba) — 1/20/2010 @ 10:09 pmsuspended and fined $135 for that?
Damn. I got less for actual fighting. Thank goodness I’m not in public school these days. Sure, these kids should be disciplined for their prank. D-Hall or something. Maybe an essay. A monetary fine? IRL legal system? Suspension?
Sign of the times.
I assume they used digital photography, so there wasn’t even any harm done.
Dustin (b54cdc) — 1/20/2010 @ 10:15 pmWhy were “A”, “S” & “S” fined? Presumably, they’re guilty of staying in their assigned positions? Did they give away that they were ‘in on it’ by sniggering after the pic was taken?
Were they fined for the act of doing something wrong? or was there an actual financial burden for needing to re-take a required photo?
Icy Texan (01c224) — 1/20/2010 @ 11:22 pmI thought the same thing, Icy. They must have admitted they were participants, and the fine was to cover the cost of doing whatever had to be done to fix the photos.
DRJ (84a0c3) — 1/20/2010 @ 11:30 pmI think the adults involved are simply embarrassed because they couldn’t control 2 high school SENIORS long enough to take a photo; or, that they didn’t think of the obvious solution to avoid having something like this happen in the first place: make the school’s top 5 honor students wear the shirts!
When you’re the valedictorian, and you most likely have a scholarship awaiting you after graduation, I’m thinking ‘less likely to pull a prank 4 months before graduation’.
Icy Texan (01c224) — 1/20/2010 @ 11:41 pmActually, it says the formal photo was fine…it was only in a later informal photo that the stunt was pulled…so why the need for a re-shoot/re-touch?
This is a complete over-reaction. detention…afterschool work program…OK.
But suspension and a fine……if it was me or one of my kids you can bet your ass I’d fight.

I didn’t know “CLASS” was s three-letter word. Somebody needs to go back to high school.
Dr. K (adb7ba) — 1/21/2010 @ 2:56 amCan the public schools kick people out until their parents pay a randomly generated shakedown amount?
Our local high school can’t even keep out the violent criminals. Might injure their self-esteem.

Apparently the C and L were also missing from the ones in charge of this decision, leaving them only the U and E, and nothing at all to do with those letters…
Yeesh.
