Irish Passenger is Lucky No. 8

From Orin Kerr: Slovak authorities put “real explosives in the luggage of innocent passengers as part of a security test.”

Authorities found 7 out of the 8 test samples but failed to warn the 8th passenger, who found out the hard way when he was arrested upon his return to Dublin.

  1. who thinks like that? terrorist people wouldn’t act more innocent than innocent people so there’s no reason they needed innocent people. They should buy that guy a really nice dinner. Someplace not Irish.

  2. sucks to be him….. and now we are reminded, yet again, of why the Founding Fathers didn’t trust established governments without citizen oversight.

  3. Nice. I bet that will be real easy to explain on a background investigation. “Sir, I was arrested but I didn’t do anything wrong, I swear!”

  4. What a drag for him. I had a great time in Bratislava last month, but I guess I am glad that I didn’t fly in or out of that airport.

  5. I think they should mail him decent size check for his trouble. Maybe a year’s salary of the guy they sacked for the screwup.

  6. Would they slip it in to locked checked in luggage?

  7. It’s like that old SNL sketch with John Belushi – “The luck of the Irish? Let’s talk about the unluck of the Irish; let’s talk about the bad luck of the Irish…”

  11. Hey, at least they arrested the guy with the bomb. The system worked!

  12. It’s a good thing he wasn’t flying through LAX; they’re so bad at finding this stuff, he probably would have blown up his hotel room when unpacking.

  13. AD, from reading the story, I got the impression that the Irish passenger did make it home with the explosives.

  14. SPQR you are correct. Not only did he make it home, he had the explosives in his apartment for 2 or 3 days. Slovakian authorities eventually informed the Irish police…
