Abdumutallab: A Test Case in Civilian vs Military Detention

Abdumutallab was talking but now he’s not:

“Abdulmutallab – who was “talkative” right after his arrest – has now stopped cooperating.

But, sources say the suspect has already provided a wealth of intelligence.”

How much more might we learn if Abdulmutallab were currently detained at Guantanamo and subject to military rapport-building or FBI interrogation techniques instead of sitting silently in the federal criminal system?

  1. Krauthammer, as usual, has it nailed.

The reason the country is uneasy about the Obama administration’s response to this attack is a distinct sense of not just incompetence but incomprehension. From the very beginning, President Obama has relentlessly tried to downplay and deny the nature of the terrorist threat we continue to face. Napolitano renames terrorism “man-caused disasters.” Obama goes abroad and pledges to cleanse America of its post-9/11 counterterrorist sins. Hence, Guantanamo will close, CIA interrogators will face a special prosecutor, and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will bask in a civilian trial in New York — a trifecta of political correctness and image management.

This will not be the last such attack. Maybe the last failure.

This is the basis for our multicultural society where no culture is better or worse than any other and everything is subjective.

  4. I’ll bet they got his name, rank,, SSN and address of the rock he hides under. With democrats in charge is there a doubt he has a SSN and draws disability.

I smell the presence of a public funded attorney. 🙂
Actually who is funding the legal system machine does not matter too much, the result is the same.

I actually had a passing thought of shipping him south, but that may actually be a goal to pass information to some that are still there.

Put him in a small cell, ya know that dark place, and give him back his panties.

  6. I really hope that at some point when we get a decent president, there is a reckoning of some kind for how so much of the legal profession has actively and proudly tried to undermine the war on terror. Not any kind of legal sanctions or anything, just a good, long public shaming.
