For some reason this part reminded me of President Obama and his Nobel Peace Prize:

redc1c4 (fb8750) — 12/19/2009 @ 10:32 pmsorry: forgot to make a proper link, that’s “Father Christmas” by the Kinks.
redc1c4 (fb8750) — 12/19/2009 @ 10:33 pmNa, chica, this is America. First you get the money. Then you get the power. And when you have the money and the power then you get the woman.
nk (df76d4) — 12/19/2009 @ 10:41 pmWhen I saw the picture on the front page, with part of Mr Martin’s face obscured by the start arrow for the video, I thought it was featuring Vice President Biden.
It was an understandable mistake; the two are interchangeable.
The myopic Dana (474dfc) — 12/20/2009 @ 6:55 amnk gets it wrong:
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you dump the old bag who was at your side during the hard years, and upgrade. Whether you should have used the singular, “woman,” is also debatable.
The realistic Dana (474dfc) — 12/20/2009 @ 6:59 amThere is only one woman for a man, Dana.
nk (df76d4) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:05 amThat would have worked so much better had you signed it “Tiger Woods.”
The Dana who can count (474dfc) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:20 amI was serious. All else is vanity and a chasing after wind.
nk (df76d4) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:26 amA man to sleep peacefully next to his woman is the only thing that makes this whole horrible struggle called life worthwhile.
nk (df76d4) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:32 am#7, said, “There is only one woman for a man…”
Yeah, usually one at a time works best, but only for about 2 weeks, then get off your lazy rear end, belly up, and do your duty.
It’s a lot of effort, I’ll acknowledge, but it keeps you active and on your toes, fresh and optimistic. Otherwise you end up spouting platitudes and making excuses for physical and mental inertia.
ropelight (a6c477) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:32 amI think DaVinci would have been a lot better off “doing his duty” to Giaconda instead of painting her, Ropelight. š
nk (df76d4) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:38 am#12, a wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse. You’re aware, I assume, there’s a great deal of learned speculation that’s a self portrait.
ropelight (a6c477) — 12/20/2009 @ 7:46 amNo, there actually was a real woman who sat for that portrait. Some assholes even desecrated her grave to look at her teeth for the secret of her smile, not too long ago.
nk (df76d4) — 12/20/2009 @ 8:25 amSay it ain’t so, you’re pullin’ my leg.
ropelight (a6c477) — 12/20/2009 @ 9:13 amremember when Steve Martin was funny?
Well, at least he was funny in the older part of that sketch. The first part, dated from 2009? Really, really bad. Sheesh.
NBC’s late-night comedy show is sort of a metaphor for Obama and, most unfortunately, the country he presides over, in that both mediocrity and decline have a way of being tolerated (or supported) by enough people to make noticeably negative trends a virtually permanent feature of a society.

Martin would make a way better VP.
JEA (1a9417) — 12/20/2009 @ 10:19 amremember when Steve Martin was funny?
I do! He was hilarious as one of the Czech Brothers back in the days when SNL was actually good.
Dana (f64b7d) — 12/20/2009 @ 10:33 amremember when Steve Martin was funny?
Nothing is funny about SNL these days. It’s like kryptonite to funny. So I’ll absolve Steve of blame in this case.
Subotai (5ac85c) — 12/20/2009 @ 12:06 pmI think Martin was trying to outline the thought processes of the political class. Nailed it, too.
