I’m On That Kind of Integrity Kick

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 10:23 pm

That’s just the fucking way it is.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then a) you’ve never read Ace, and b) you need to hear this.

Don’t make a fucking maniac out of me.

P.S. The guys get shirts.

  2. Mr. Frey, if you weren’t my hero before, you certainly are now.

You, sir, have made my day. 🙂

  3. I know his phraseology is hilarious, but the basic point of the rant is valid.

this is an old thing we did on it: http://docweasel.wordpress.com/2007/08/25/in-defense-of-paul-anka/

    docweasel (b970ac)

  4. I note that you don’t think the Buddy Rich rants are valid, Doc Weasel.

Hey, what if someone says of you: “If I ever run into him, I’ll break him like a toothpick”? Is that a valid rant? Or just an unhinged Internet lunatic?

    I just ask questions here.

  5. That’s how fucking crucial this is.

  6. Count me double non-plussed (and no, I didn’t follow any links).

  7. One must either follow the “this” link or already be familiar with it.

I was reminded of its greatness tonight and chose to pay tribute.

  8. where’s Joe?

  9. I don’t get what you’re talking about Pat? Has someone said that about you? I sure don’t think anyone on our team has ever said that about anyone, it’s just a stupid thing to say, threatening to beat people up, internet or otherwise. Personally, I haven’t gotten into a physical altercation since junior high, and I don’t plan to, and I would just laugh if someone said that and seriously meant it. Who the hell rolls around on the ground fighting with people? That’s crazy.

  11. Yeah, but I think we all know what you really meant by “integrity,” don’t we?

    Hater!

  12. ‘fuck’ is just a word of exclamation, John. Don’t give it any power.

This blog has a soul, and this is a cool treatment of the SEK dilemma. Much better than conventional blogwars.

  13. You’re on thin fucking ice here

    You fucking get that?

  14. I am with docweasel on this. Anka was justified; however, he could have handled it differently. Anka is a major star and he is trying to put on a big production that sounds professional. That is not easy and as doc reports some of the band members copped to the fact that they did not put in the time to get it right. Alot of guys are hot shot players and think they can fake their way through anything. Part of the problem probably was Anka’s in that he did not demand enough rehearsal time or pay the guys for rehearsal time. If you have ever spent any time around musicians you’d know how lazy, backstabbing, etc, they can be. Ultimately it is a problem of management and that falls on Anka, but I don’t blame him for being pissed.

  15. One more thing, I sit in with a couple of bands around here (Chicago) and their attitude towards me is that I had better be good and know my songs, (the tempo, breaks, how to signal the lead guitar player, etc) or I am not going to get back up. Even though these guys work straight jobs they take their music very seriously and because of that they have taught me a great deal. You can multiply that by ten for a guy of the stature of Paul Anka.

  16. LOL! That made my morning. Hilarious.

  18. #17 nk: I’m not sure where Joe was, but I’m pretty sure I missed something while I was on vacation.

  21. Yeah, but what kind of shirts? Collars? Henley shirts okay?

What the f** you want from me?

    SteveMG (99d5c4)

  22. #20 nk:

    I think I get it …

I got it. SEK has been a dishonest douchenozzle again.

    Nothing new there.

  23. Paul Anka was a teen sensation in the transistor radio era. His audience was teenage girls and there would not be a dry seat in the house when he sang. One of my favorite authors, Donald Hamilton, used him in one of his books:

Matt Helm: Does he do anything for him?
Girfriend du jour: Yes, he arouses my maternal instinct. I want to go up there and change his diaper to see if he will stop crying.

Now those teenage girls from the sixties are … and he needs to keep them just as happy although the seats now get wet because their Depends leak.

    nk (df76d4)

  24. That should have been: Does he do anything for *you*?

    nk (df76d4)

  25. if you’re reading this post, just remember that it w*rks a whole lot better if you are a moron….

  26. How’s this for integrity?

Biden attributes a Truman quote to his grandfather, and substitutes a different town name – three times. Since October.

  27. For people who think words have meaning, this is a rather odd post.

  28. Amphipolis – That link is great. Remember, we we’re supposed to be worried about electing an idiot as VP. And they did.

    JD (4c5397)

  29. F***ing up “My Way” is one thing, but I sincerely hope Anka’s band didn’t f*** up “Having My Baby.”
