NCAA Football, Week 12

We’ll have to be after-the-fact armchair quarterbacks for Week 12 since I missed a part of the weekend and didn’t get this posted Saturday. But it wasn’t a good week for Notre Dame and the Charlie Weis era seems to be over. (Urban Meyer says he’s not interested.)

The Top 7 in the BCS stayed the same and, barring upsets, the top BCS matchups look like the winner of Florida-Alabama vs Texas for the national championship and the loser of Florida-Alabama vs TCU for second place. If so, this State of Texas football fan will be happy.

  1. I want to take the TCU Horned Frogs seriously, but I have a hard time thinking that they’d have compiled that same record in the old Southwest Conference or in today’s Big Twelve or SEC (even assuming they hadn’t played UT). Nevertheless, I will indeed root for them, and I hope they’ll prove my doubts wrong.

  2. Texas just needs to get past Nebraska, which will happen only if the Texas offensive line plays lights out,

  3. Alabama vs TCU will either be an embarrassing near blowout, or an excellent match of the ages. Either way, probably the best game of the year for me.

TCU should replace A&M in the Big 12.

Texas seems to be so good that no one wants to jinx it. Nothing is guaranteed, but I think they could beat Alabama or Florida.

  4. I like Boise State matched against the best opponent possible, bring it on! When Boise beat Oklahoma I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was the best college game I ever saw, and I’m a long time Alabama fan for over 50 years, and a new Florida fan of only 2 years.

Seriously, I’d love to see Boise matched against either one, or Texas, or the Frogs, or LSU, or ole Miss, and let the best team win, providing Boise gets past the Nevada Wolf Pack of course. I lived in Reno and still have friends there.

  5. Florida was the recipient of bad officiating – particularly the Arkansas game IIRC – that enabled it to remain undefeated.

  6. Boise should be ahead of TCU, given their win over Oregon.

  7. Oh, who cares about all of that. The University of Kentucky Wildcats beat the Georgia Bulldogs 34-27. And in just-as-goo news, the Oakland Raiders whipped the Cincinnati Bengals 20-17.

    I am pleased.

  8. JD – Boise has a blue field. Enough said.

  9. Props to Dana, and everyone in Kaintuck, the ‘Cats beat the Dogs.

The good ol’ boys are spittin’ on the iron stove and sippin’ that sweet smellin’ Sunday whiskey. Them ‘Cats played well and deserved the win. Good on ’em all, Dogs too.

  10. “Assuming no upsets”, we expect there to be 5 undefeated teams and a 1-loss SEC runner-up?

It will have been a long time since there has been that many good records at the end of a season. And then a drop off, lots of 2 loss or more teams that have not been consistent, OSU, Penn State, Iowa, Pac 10’s, LSU. I wish my Badgers would have pulled it out to have only 2-L.

  11. Cal beat Stanford. ‘Nuff said.
