October Deficit Kicks Off New Fiscal Year

The Obama Administration has kicked off the New (Fiscal) Year with a record monthly deficit:

“What better way to kick off Barack Obama’s first full budget year as President than with a deficit that exceeded the White House’s own projections as well as analysts’ expectations? The federal government busted the budget worse than last October by $20 billion with a deficit of $176.36 billion for the month. That used to be considered a decent deficit target … for an entire year.”

Happy New Year, suckers!

  1. Well, if the rest of the Budget Year falls in line, the ’10 Deficit should be around $1,610,000,000,000.00 –
just a small increase over this years’ record $1.42-TRILLION!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Healthcare will be deficit neutral. He promised.

  4. Btw, obama’s handlers say he will declare a war on the deficit at the state of the union.

Besides the initial reaction of “yeah, right,” i always find it funny that dems use the language of war on every subject but actual war.

  5. So now Dear Leader makes a big to-do about announcing a freeze in discretionary spending. Why does the image of fixing the barn door after the horses have escaped come to mind? It’s pretty much arranging deck chairs on the Titanic unless we get a handle on entitlement spending. Even if we wound down the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq tomorrow, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will continue to eat up Federal revenue.

I realize that I have just left an opening for our lefty commentors to argue that PelosiCare will magically solve this problem. Have at it.

  6. Remember how he promised during the campaign that every dollar of new spending would be “paid for” by offsets in spending reductions and closing corporate loopholes? Big fat lie. They will start their war on the deficit right after they pass all of their dirty little socialisms what will cretae ginormous deficits that are unsustainable. Then they will claim to reduce the deficit from absolute insanity to higher-than-average insanity.

  7. The Obama administration, mindful of public anxiety over the government’s mushrooming debt, is shifting emphasis from big-spending policies to deficit reduction. Domestic agencies have been told to brace for a spending freeze or cuts of up to 5 percent as part of a midterm election-year push to rein in record budget shortfalls.

Yet with the economy still in distress and unemployment pushing past 10 percent, prospects for making a dent in a trillion-dollar-plus annual deficit seem slight. And since the Pentagon and Department of Veterans Affairs would likely be shielded from such cuts, overtures toward trimming the deficit may hold more symbolic value than substance.

Orszag has said the spending blueprint, for the budget year that begins Oct. 1, 2010, would put the nation “back on a fiscally sustainable path” and suggested it would include a mix of spending cuts and new revenue-producing measures.

Yup. A hole ginormous article about the deficit brought to you by dirty socialist Associated Press propaganda whores Tom Raum and Andrew Taylor what doesn’t mention the little president man’s dirty socialist third world health care scheme once.

our little country is in the hands of liars and whore. It’s just awful.

  8. The credit markets may balk at this so he might be correct that discretionary spending may be over soon.

And gold will be $2500/ ounce by summer.

  9. The continuing mystery is why Volcker signed on for this astonishing display of financial irresponsibility. I don’t believe they wanted him for anything more than window dressing, but why doesn’t at least one MSM reporter make a call and ask him what he really thinks about all of this? They’re laughing at everything he’s stood for, and all of his accomplishments.

  10. hrm. that should have been a *whole* ginormous article. With a w. Same like the president what took good care of us had.

  11. Charlie Gasparino today said that Jamie Dimon owns Obama, is calling the shots, and singlehandedly shot down any thought of reviving Glass Steagall (not necessarily wrong there). He went on to say that “administration officials” generally consider Volcker the crazy uncle you hide in the attic.

  12. Does anyone have any evidence that Volker is not suffering from Alzheimers or dementia, and that is why he stays out of the spotlight?
