Amazing:

Simulation of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger’s US Airways flight (Cactus 1549) that landed in the Hudson River on January 15, 2009.

Here are more animations and here is actual video of the landing with audio.

  1. Truly incredible.

And Sullenberger only had time to announce it once: “This is the captain. Brace for impact.”

  2. In all cases where a passenger plane has undergone an intentional water landing or ditching, some or all of the occupants have survived.*

that’s very good to know. Cheering, really.

  4. thank you! Especially cause most of this week has been a grumpy week. Here’s a song for you cause it’s Friday and also it’s an awesome song. She’s been around forever but I never paid attention. She’s entirely Swedish. (I just linked that one cause I think she’s looks especially Swedish in that one.)

  7. “Any idea’s ?”, “Actually not” .
Translation, “Think I missed anything ?”, “nope”.
Superb Airmanship ! Exactly what you would expect from an ex F-4 jock.

  8. F-4: Aeronautical engineering’s attempt to match the Bumble-bee (with enough power, even a barn-door will fly).
After one of those, this must have been a “snap”.

  9. F-4s were so damn loud. I know most fighter planes are loud, but this was like the detuned Harley of fighter planes.

I always thought it was almost tragically beautiful. Something audacious (in the real, non-Obama way). The F-14 is obviously the peak of fighter jet style, but the F-4 will always be a classic. F-14s were damn loud too.

  10. Yes, this was incredible. I am thankful that the U.S. is full of competent people like Sullenberger who don’t blow their own horns & just do their jobs.

  13. I would highly recommend visiting the site where this this video – and bunch of others – were posted by the creators: Cactus 1549 (hope the link works). These guys have integrated all sorts of data (raw radar plots, voice feeds from the various towers and control crews, etc) to create a series of amazing videos. This is my fav:
