President Obama Speaks to Americans

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 3:30 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Since FDR’s fireside chats, Presidents have spoken to Americans in the President’s Weekly Radio Address. President Obama changed to a weekly video address, but I don’t recall any President describing his address like this:

Your Weekly Address

Sami Sukar at Mere Musings noticed this months ago. Meanwhile, can you believe it’s been just over 6 months since Obama’s Our Weekly Address promised health care reform and $2T in deficit reduction?

  1. DRJ, you have to understand that “deficit reduction” actually means “deficit spending.” You probably were twisting things by going to a dictionary.

  2. that would certainly explain why he’s calling it “yours”, when it sure as hell is his.

  3. In my continued belief that almost everything can be explained by an ABBA tune, ‘The Piper’.

    They came from the hills
And they came from the valleys and the plains
    They struggled in the cold
In the heat and the snow and in the rain
    Came to hear him play
    Play their minds away

We’re all following a strange melody
We’re all summoned by a tune
    We’re following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon
    We’re following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon for him
And we dance beneath the moon
    Sub Luna Saltamus

    They came from the south
From the west and the north and from the east
    They waited for the man
Like a parish is waiting for the priest
    Longed to hear him play
    Play their minds away

We’re all following a strange melody
We’re all summoned by a tune
    We’re following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon
    We’re following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon for him
And we dance beneath the moon
    Sub Luna Saltamus

    He came in a dream
He seduced everybody in the land
    The fire in his eyes
And the fear was a weapon in his hand
    So they let him play
    Play their minds away

We’re all following a strange melody
We’re all summoned by a tune
    We’re following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon
    We’re following the piper
And we dance beneath the moon for him
And we dance beneath the moon

Down right scary. You can easily change “play” to “say”, and “minds” to any number of things.

  4. The President will continue to address the nation weakly…

  5. And who, then, is the opposition address for? If not us, I guess it’s for “them.”

  6. When is he going to get a presidential uniform? Pinochet had a uniform. What, he’s not as good as Pinochet?

  7. It sounds like he is trying out the “Commander in Chief” idea for the civilian population.

The audacity of audacity is something. It isn’t really funny, because humorous it’s not. It isn’t really surprising, though it ought to be if the world was a saner place. It isn’t really sickening, because there is a lot that is much worse. It’s just there to be stared at, gawked at, wondering how long and what’s next.

  8. Racists, the whole lot of you. I’m reporting you to the White House. Heh!
