CNN’s Rick Sanchez is Mad at Fox News (Updated)

Filed under: Blogging Matters,Media Bias — DRJ @ 7:37 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Really, really mad:

I haven’t read the Fox News ad but it sounds like Sanchez has a good point. If so, I hope Fox News admits it is wrong.

People say they’re sorry at the drop of a hat in today’s world but they rarely admit — up front and unequivocally — when they’re wrong. I think that’s a problem. We don’t need a world full of people saying “I’m sorry” but when it’s appropriate, everyone should say “I’m wrong.” And if people really mean it when they admit they’re wrong, they also change the attitudes and preconceptions that led them there. That’s a lot harder than saying “I’m sorry.”

As for Rick Sanchez: I hope you and Fox News work this out. I also hope you can chill out … but if I’m wrong about that, I’m sorry.

— DRJ

UPDATE: PS, Rick — Even if CNN covers stories, that doesn’t make the coverage unbiased. So while you’re bashing Fox News over its journalistic standards, take a closer look at CNN’s coverage of the ACORN story:

Breitbart: “But, predictably, and why we rolled the videos out one by one by one by one, we set traps for ACORN to lie; each and every time they lied. They went to the mainstream media, continued to tell those lies. The next day, the previous day’s lies were exposed. And CNN in particular has kept going back to ACORN and taking their line.”

  1. CNN is douchebags what more than any other media outlet except for NPR has dedicated an extreme amount of resources to brainwashing its audience with cheesy climate change propaganda. Fox News does it too but not as bad. Shep is a big climate change fairy. That Shep one is a big girl but if Shep and Rick were on the same cell block Rick would be the one not getting any sleep I think.

Cable news is preposterously gay on the face of it I think. People pay for it too. We are truly living in an age of wonders.

    happyfeet (6b707a)

  2. I turned on CNN to see what was up with the protests, and all I ever saw was Obama speaking to an invited crowd in Minnesota. It seemed he spoke for an hour or two and they covered every last word.

Then again, all I saw on Fox was Glen Beck talking about Glen Beck….

    Kevin Murphy (3c3db0)

  3. Rick is often a very angry, angry person but it appears he’s got a case to make on this one.

Nevertheless he takes some unfair shots back – on the promote versus cover angle. To the extent anything was promoted – was it done the opinion shows versus the news shows.

With respect to covering the news – CNN sucked on timing and content on Van Jones and the recent ACORN debacle, so angry Rck can shove that up his pie hole.

    daleyrocks (718861)

  4. Rick’s mom is not angry like Rick. He should have her on more often.

    daleyrocks (718861)

  5. Rick Sanchez is one what is pissed that Keith Olbergasm is a bigger douchenozzle than he is, and he just cannot seem to get over that hump. Rick Sanchez is a fool and a liar on a routine basis, and though he is technically accurate, their coverage was flawed and biased. His hyperbolic outrage pretty much distracts from the fact that they had douchey coverage.

    JD (9019c8)

  6. Sanchez refers to Andrew Sullivan as a “noted conservative” (only mentions him as cred when bashing conservatives, which is almost all he does).

Sanchez refuses to call media matters (where he gets many of his stories) liberal.

    And finally,

Rick Sanchez is oozing with joy that you gave him more of what he was hoping for: publicity & notoriety. The guy is dying to be CNN’s Olbermann and you’re helping him along. Ignore this buffoon, please.

BTW, I have a friend who is high up in the CNN chain and Sanchez is considered a ‘tool’ by his co-workers. Anderson Cooper, according to them, is the real standard bearer for the network. Sanchez is a nothing]

    Cam Winston (96ec19)

  7. From Karl’s excellent Post – CNN

Fox should apologize for stating that CNN didn’t cover the protest – and then go into detail about CNN’s biased coverage.

Notice that they had nothing to say regarding O’Reilly’s point about there being a ‘problem’ with CNN’s coverage. You might think Sanchez would argue that point as well.

But maybe that point isn’t arguable.

It also might be important to contrast Breitbart’s coverage of the attendees with CNN’s slanted implication that a large part of the protest group was made up of fringe elements.

Funny that there’s no corresponding exposure of the Worker’s World Party and other freakish fringe groups at the antiwar protests.

This is a perfect time for Fox to answer this very narrow challenge by CNN and expose CNN’s extreme bias.

Of course Rick Sanchez is angry – CNN and the rest of the media has been exposed in their blatant bias – and he needs to go on the offensive to distract.

    Apogee (e2dc9b)

  8. I agree with JD. Rick Sanchez is just being an opportunistic douchebag here and mostly he’s just pouting, loudly, cause he works at a loser third-string dirty socialist cable network that has to follow the dirty socialist party line and he’s not just an aging Latino-esque dirty socialist cheerleader with fabulous hair he’s a token aging Latino-esque dirty socialist cheerleader with fabulous hair. And he hates himself for it.

    happyfeet (6b707a)

  9. The extensive coverage of the Lyndon LaRouche elements with the Obama as Hitler signs and the guy handing out pre-printed “Bury Obama care with Kennedy” signs constituted a lot of their coverage. I don’t know how much because I don’t watch them unless I’m in an airport. He really seems overwrought but maybe that;s the way he is most of the time.

    Mike K (2cf494)

  10. If they let you change channels at airports those dirty socialist CNN douchebags would lose half their audience over night.

    happyfeet (6b707a)

  11. What number did they provide for the attendees? If they used the AP “tens of thousands” or otherwise failed to mention that it was one of the largest gatherings on the Mall, then they didn’t cover the story. Period.

    Mick Langan (037c65)

  12. at the end the pompous douchebag says “thousands of Americans” protested the dirty socialist douchebag president’s rapings of our little treasury not hundreds of thousands which would have been accurate… that’s probably a hint

    happyfeet (6b707a)

  13. Rick Sanchez is mad about accusations that CNN didn’t cover the event. That’s fair, and he backed up his accusation with evidence that seems to be conclusive.

I have absolutely no problem with that. CNN covered the event. Did they cover it fairly? I only saw small snippets of CNN as it was going on, so I can’t give an opinion one way or another.

However, I do know that when someone speaks as strongly as he did, they have an ace in the hole.

So, I will have to say, he’s right.

CNN did indeed cover the event.

But, did he happen to mention Anderson Cooper? If he did I didn’t see it in his comments.

Did he mention that those protesters are the same people that Cooper calls “tea-baggers?”

It may be subtle difference, but both Fox and CNN separate their “news” reporting from their “opinion” reporting. And neither do it very well.

Except, I’ve never heard Shepherd Smith call left-wing protesters “tossed salad” enjoyers or “dirty sanchez” practitioners or “cleveland steamer” experts.

But Cooper very definitely said — as have scores of other MSM commentators and politicians — that people who oppose the current administration’s policies are nothing more than people who enjoy masticular manipulation of the testicles.

I mean Cooper is the face of CNN, just as Shepherd Smith is the face of Fox News. What other conclusion can you draw except that CNN considers the protesters are nothing more than sexual adventurers who have no concept of what they’re protesting.

Now, for a note in anticipation of the usual crowd that will take me to task: I know what “tea-bagging” is because I used to listen to Howard Stern. Since I had no idea what he was talking about, I looked it up and it took me days to clear my computer of malware and viruses.

Stern also talked about “tossed salad,” “cleveland steamers” and “dirty sanchez.” I still don’t know exactly what those mean. And I know I can look them up on the Urban Dictionary. But, quite frankly, I don’t want to know.

I’m also well aware of the rumors surrounding both of the cable news anchors I mentioned above.

    Ag80 (592691)

  14. We now have a face for “dirty sanchez”

    JD (9019c8)

  15. A fact does not constitute and argument.

CNN pretty much ignore, or puts down, any Anti-Obama story.

All I read about, or saw, at CNN for 5 years was about Bush’s real and perceived failures.

Not as much what they say but what is ignored and what is emphasized.

Sanchez is a mama huevo whose parents probably wished he had floated away on an inner tube why peddling here.

    HeavenSent (01a566)

  16. If Anderson Cooper looks in the camera and tells you a fact you can take to the bank that for sure he’s wearing fabulous shoes while he’s doing it. Shoes what if you were to see them you would think my God that is a man what is wearing a fabulous pair of shoes.

    happyfeet (6b707a)

  17. On December 10, 1990, Sanchez struck a pedestrian, Jeffrey Smuzinick, with his car on a residential street near Dolphin Stadium after Smuzinick darted into the road.[3] Smuzinick was paralyzed and eventually died in an assisted living facility in 1995.[3][4] Sanchez, who had just left an NFL football game with his father (and left the scene of the accident), was not charged with causing the accident, but was charged with and pleaded no contest to DUI.[3]

Here’s how naive I am: I didn’t even think about Rick Sanchez and “dirty sanchez,” in the same sense.

  20. That’s sad. I know a girl what killed a wayward retarded child when she was young and it’s very hard. She was a beautiful person. People should look both ways I think. Retarded children should have people about what look both ways for them.

I wonder if Rick is jealous of Anderson’s shoes. No. I wonder how jealous Rick is of Anderson’s shoes.

  27. I think self-serving rings true in that this whole little rant sort of reads more like a hey look at me than anything genuine. Sorry little man but your pitiful little dirty socialist cable network has a pr department for a reason and you’re not in it you know why?

Cause you’re opposed to be a journalist not a little p.r. b*tch for a Time Warner Inc. subsid whose parent corp doesn’t have a single C-Level executive that even knows your name.

    happyfeet (6b707a)

  28. The fact is getting angry won’t help. What Sanchez should have done is give an “aw shucks” smile and ran footage of how well CNN covered the event.

Except then people might watch the coverage and see how biased the reporting was.

Even so, getting angry is counterproductive. Humor is better. But then, Sanchez strikes me as pretty humorless.

  35. I really for real think that discrediting your average pompous pseudojournalist dirty socialist tool is really a lot easy to where you don’t have to go there with the car accidents and such. He’s just a little cable journalist monkey pretending to be angry. It’s disingenuous to pretend you ever expected any cable journalist monkey to be a paragon of ethics much less the CNN ones. Except for Tony Snow. But he was just a better man all around than almost anyone I know. Definitely an extreme outlier.

    Mike D. (c513a5)

  38. Dirty Sanchez works for the one where Eason Jordan gave Saddam editorial control over their stories, and this clown has the audacity to criticize the professionalism of a network? Dirty Sanchez works for the network that brought us the twat reporter in Chicago at one of the teabagging events, but I cannot remember her name. He works for a network that would be an uber-epic-fail if not for its airport contracts. The Left talks all the time about manufactured outrage. There is at least 6 minutes of manufactured look at me outrage in that clip. He just wants to be Olbergasm.

  40. Did they really fully cover the TEA protests? Without distorting or covering up the real story?

My understanding is that CNN was the first place you heard ‘Teabaggers’, and its reporters were bashing the protestors for months.

Sorry, but if CNN can’t cover the story fairly and fully, they didn’t really cover it at all. They may have mentioned something about the issue, but that’s not good enough.

the real effect of this ad from FNC is that CNN is on the defensive and will remain so for years. They know they keep screwing this up, but they didn’t expect FNC to call them out.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  41. Fox News didn’t run that full-page ad. Fox promotions folks did.
But the bigger point is that Fox News promotes/promotes/promotes/promotes to the point of ginning up, fomenting/creating/building etc. non-stories that appeal to the basest of the base.
And that would be you folks who live on planet Fox. What really angers you is that more and more people are realizing that the sun doesn’t orbit Fox. Loved that little cell-phone video of the Fox News crew member signaling the crowd in D.C. last week when to yuk it up louder for the cameras.

It was also informative to have seen the full clips that were shown on CNN instead of the snippets. They show the full extent of CNN’s bias and lack of coverage.

I mean, look at the comments here. Look at the comments at Kos. Look at spittle-flecked Olbermann and his boyfriend Maddow.

You won. You have it all. You can pass any legislation you wish and have it signed by the President. Everything you ever hoped and wished for has come true.

Sure, Limbaugh and Beck are a problem now, but you can nationalize broadcast and print and solve that problem? It’s within your power. The rest of the media are already on your side.

And poor, sad, Nancy has to cry about the rough talk, although she was happy to support it when a Republican was in the White House.

Why can’t you do it? Why the anguish and gnashing of teeth and renting of clothes?

Guys, you rule. You have it all. Cap and trade should be done. Health care should be done. The new domestic police force with the power of the Defense Department should be done. The emancipation of illegal aliens should be done.

All of the things that will give you your long sought-after absolute rule, with no opposition, should have been done by now.

Those pitiful 70,000 “teabaggers” in Washington mean nothing. Those 46 states between California and New York mean nothing (look at a map before you say I’m stupid) and neither does Alaska, but I think Hawaii is on your side if you grant them independence.

You have everyone who matters, everyone who is smarter than the rest of us, including Europe (expect maybe Poland and a few Czechs) on your side.

Why aren’t these things done? The clock is ticking.

    Madness doesn’t decrease with time.

  59. I don’t know if Rick “Killerdrunk” Sanchez has a point or not, because I almost never watch CNN due to the multitude of reasons cited in this comments section. I do know that their coverage of the Tea Party protests has been snarky and dismissive, and most of their coverage of conservatives is sarcastic and contemptuous. So even if CNN had an ass-covering smidgen of last Saturday’s protest, they’re still guilty of lack of responsible coverage of the overall story. And the same goes for their virtual non-coverage of the ACORN scandal. I believe that CNN as an organization just doesn’t want to get it. As I’ve already pointed out, I get my news from other sources because CNN is so dysfunctional as a news organization. When they get aroung to changing that, I’ll pay attention to them, but I ain’t holding my breath waiting for it to happen.
