Houston Chronicle Updates the Roxana Mayer Story

Filed under: General — DRJ @ 11:47 am

[Guest post by DRJ]

The Houston Chronicle has addressed the “Dr.” Roxana Mayer incident that Patterico posted on here and here. It specifically states Mayer is not a physician but is a University of Houston student as well as an organizer and delegate for the Obama campaign. In addition:

“U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said today she does not know the woman who falsely claimed to be a physician when she made a statement supporting the White House’s health care overhaul at the congresswoman’s town hall meeting Tuesday.”

Mayer also said she has been advised not to talk further about this incident.

Updated: Rightwingsparkle has more from Houston. So does Hot Air.

  2. Wow, you really struck a nerve. There’s almost 400 comments on that thread.

Half of them are lefties screaming “It’s not a lie!!!”

Half of them are lefties screaming “Bush lied too!!!”

No one seems to note the inconsistency in those 2 statements.

  3. Dear Mr. Frey,

I have some pretty clear and convincing evidence that someone, a blogger, is posing as a professor of law at a highly rated school.

Heh. Sounds as if someone didn’t find her response to you all that amusing.

  7. Noyk, she’s being advised by her lawyer in this matter now. Gee, why is she so nervous all of a sudden?

“U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said today she does not know the woman

Yeah, right. But by some miracle of circumstance, she still had the notion to call on her right in the middle of yet another uncomfortable question that she didn’t want to answer. It’s a coincidink, I tell you!

  8. It seems her story fell apart into a million little pieces.

    Yeah, right.

Maybe she’ll use the Maury Povich excuse–

SJL–“Man, that girl has been to everyone’s townhalls! I only met her once!”

  12. I wish one of your readers in Texas would file a complaint with whatever they call their board of medical licensing. That concern is obviously the reason someone has stuffed a rag in her mouth.

  15. Mrs. Mayer kinda did NOT sound like a doctor with years of medical practice under her belt.. She almost sounded like she rehearsed the speech.

  16. So she isn’t even a social worker? She’s a professional student?

She knew how Joe the almost a Master Plumber was vilified, and yet decided it would be a great idea to take that strategy up about 10,000 notches.

I wonder how long until she starts working for HHS, and making up things to give her credibility when arguing for the removal of children from “abusive” conservative Christian homes.

  17. I think its a good idea to keep the pressure up on the HChron to come out more cleanly about how they abjectly failed to conduct the most basic journalisitc research on this one.

Is there a public ombudsdude at that paper?

If not, why cant some tea party/Obamacare protestors make their way over to the HChron’s offices at 801 Texas Avenue and make their OWN voices heard over this latest piece of PrO-bama fakery and journo malpractice by one of the biggest dailies in the country?

  20. I am a Social Work graduate, no for real. It would seem that if she getting her masters in Social Work that someone needs to report this to
the licensing board in that state! There must be some ethics violation that she has committed by getting up at a public forum and stating that you
are a physician. I don’t know what area of Social Work she is in; but, can you imagine going to her and expecting confidentiality? I don’t know if that was such a smart thing to do professionally
speaking. But hey, I am a conservative, pro-life,
Christian, who just happens to have a degree in
Social Work, what do I know?

  21. My lasagna what I eat for lunch sometimes comes from Texas. It is very tasty and only 230 calories. Specifically it comes from Austin. You should try it.

My egg rolls come from Houston where the lying dirty socialist lives. These ones are good but nowhere near as good as the kind JD’s mother-in-law makes. You should try them. I’ve only had the chicken and the pork.

This is my wine I get from Texas. It is very tasty and people say oh that tastes very nice when I give it to them but it’s not expensive. You should try it. My sister’s bringing me a case when she comes out in November.

  33. Mayer also said she has been advised not to talk further about this incident.

    Who advised her?

She’s not in any sort of criminal trouble, is she (pretending to be a doctor might be a crime somewhere)?

Or is it OFA that told her to STFU? She’s still taking marching orders from OFA? And that’s not newsworthy?

  34. Sheila Jackson Lee is an embarrassment to Texas. I live in Houston and duck my head in shame whenever she is on TV; especially on national media.

Gene Green representing the 29th is not far behind. Same guy that wanted driver’s license to prove you lived in his district in order to attend his town hall meeting and voted against providing photo ID to vote in national elections.

  35. I would bet her husband told her to shut her lying skank mouf. It’s a class A misdemeanor according to the Texas Ocuupations Code. Whatever that entails as far as sanctions go I have no idea.

  39. Her own LinkedIn page states it took her 13 years to get a bachelor’s degree (1995-2008). THIRTEEN FRYGGIN’ YEARS!!! I bet there are a lot of stories out there that fill those 13 years it took her to graduate college… And who knows what other fraudulent activities she has been involved in… Maybe some plagiarized papers?? Maybe some fraudulent loan documents?? Cheating on the spouse?? No qualms about lying through her teeth with videocameras and national media obviously recording every moment…. I bet you this libtard stinks through and through… Only time will tell…

  43. In spite of her claims, she was ***NOT*** a Texas delegate for Obama.
Heres a copy of the master list of delegates and alternatives: http://www.txdemocrats.org/the_party/national_convention_delegates_alternates

It would seem that she was lying about a great many things….

I can’t help but wonder why… it all seems so “planted”.

    Kevin Walker (1c6b3b)

  44. Oh it is all so OBVIOUS!!!! Chaney actually hyponotized her years ago, and made her a deep deep plant within democratic organizations. By now falsely “claiming” to be a doctor she simultaneously discredits nut-job women demo-fanatics, doctors, Obama, Rep. Lee, uh…Texas, um… Bush… uh, flouride in the water, and um.. uh….did I say Bush already?

  45. Regarding SJL’s, “Docotored Video” Claims:
It’s amazing how SJL can conjure up a completely outlandish and preposterous “conspiracy theory”, and blame it on “The Vast Right Wing Conpiracy”, isn’t it?

As a Ron Paul conservative, I find this laughable at best. 😉 What comes around, goes around Queenie.

“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.”

What you wrote was rather large. I surely didn’t mean to take away from the REAL drama.
“Lady” not only claims to be a doctor, but also an Obama Delegate for Texas.

Of all the stupid laws, ya think she might have broken one by now…
    Amazing isn’t it?

  48. Has anyone seen or heard an actual correction from the Houston Chronicle editors? They already changed the caption. Did they post a note about that correction? Or can you only read about the change as noted on blogs hosted by the Chronicle?

A quick scan of chron.com links turns up this story which still doesn’t have Mayer on the record admitting she is not a licensed general practitioner.

This nearly absolute myth remains unsettled. Either the Chronicle issues a correction or it definitively debunks its own original reporting.
