Another disgrace: In Nigeria, Hillary hints that 2000 U.S. election was rigged
[Posted by Karl]
As Allahpundit would say, she’s a special lady:
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton compared Nigeria’s corruption and electoral problems with the 2000 Florida presidential election recount during a town hall meeting today in Abuja, Nigeria.
Answering a question about Nigeria’s recent election, Clinton said, “In 2000, our presidential election came down to one state where the brother of the man running for President was the governor of the state. So we have our problems too.”
That is a tasty combo of the Obama administration’s “America sucks” foreign policy, coated in some rich, gooey Bush Deragement Syndrome. Sure, the “media recounts” of the 2000 election showed that the recounts requested by Al Gore or ordered by the Florida Supreme Court would have still resulted in a victory for George W. Bush. Why would that stop our country’s chief diplomat from suggesting that her predecessors in government were there illegitimately? Certainly not Pres. Obama’s faux insistence that we let go of the politics of the past.
The sad thing is that this story will be heard by few Americans, and will register with even fewer. The silver lining? If the US Secretary of State can bestride the globe this drenched in BDS — almost nine years after the fact — without notice, what are the odds that a few anti-ObamaCare protesters are going to scare anyone today? (hint: Long odds.)

Simply disgraceful.

happyfeet (42470c) — 8/12/2009 @ 7:28 pmyou got the facts wrong.. media recounts showed Gore won no matter how you count the ballots.
Fact is Republicans send a mob down to shut down the recount..a Republican was both head of State and head of Bush election campaign which was a blatant conflict of interest and she deliberately kept legitimate Black voters off the rolls. ( not that Republicans care about either fair elections or black people)
.A friendly US Supreme Court stopped the recount when Bush’s lead was shrinking overturning the Florida State Supreme Court and handing Bush the win even though Republicans always claimed to believe in states rights and hate activist judges.. .
Even if you dont accept all this, the fact is there were serious questions about that election which Republicans dismissed with cries of “Sore Loserman” and “Get Over it” So much for healing wounds and uniting the nation..
But Conservatives dont care about such things as democracy or fair play..power and winning is everything with them and lies and hate and racism and remarks like those of Happy Feet and SPQR are just tools these ignorant cowards use…
We saw that once again last year and see it once again this year. They cant accept a woman or a black man has achieved more than they ever could or that they are responsible for the deaths of thousands in a senseless war they eagerly called for but personally avoided.
The bottom line is that in 2000 we got a President accustomed to lying and so, in keeping with his nature and that of Conservatives in general, lied us into a war against Iraq for reasons that kept changing as each was proven false. The mess we are in today is a direct result of policies made in secret by liars and buffoons and sold under the guise of patriotism and family values.
Republicans showed they hate free elections then as they are showing they hate free speech now in their attempts to shut down town hall meetings in which constituents try talk with their elected reps.
The problem is that Conservatives dont see those that differ with them as loyal opposition, but they see themselves engaged in war against anti American traitors that deserve to be eliminated.. and all is fair in war.
One can only hope for the good of the nation this hateful vicious party of liars and racists, of Glenn Becks, Ann Coultiers, Rush Limbaughs, Sean Hannities claiming to represent “morality” and “patriotism” is in its final days..

Acomprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots from last year’s presidential election reveals that George W. Bush would have won even if the United States Supreme Court had allowed the statewide manual recount of the votes that the Florida Supreme Court had ordered to go forward.
Contrary to what many partisans of former Vice President Al Gore have charged, the United States Supreme Court did not award an election to Mr. Bush that otherwise would have been won by Mr. Gore. A close examination of the ballots found that Mr. Bush would have retained a slender margin over Mr. Gore if the Florida court’s order to recount more than 43,000 ballots had not been reversed by the United States Supreme Court.

That would be news to them.
Meanwhile, as far as “fair elections” go, all we ask is that Obama Party members follow the same rules to vote as they demand to visit their town halls — you have to prove who you are, that you live where you’re participating, and that you have the right to be there.
Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) announced Monday on his Web site that he is restricting attendance to his public events to residents of his district.
“Unfortunately, due to a coordinated effort to disrupt our town hall meetings, we will be restricting further attendance to residents of the 29th Congressional District and verifying residency by requiring photo identification,” Green said.
In short, VietnamEraVet, your post is one giant projection. Perhaps you should ask yourself why you blame others for the behaviors in which you yourself clearly engage.

Gazzer (409de8) — 8/12/2009 @ 11:27 pmdidn’t get to read the comments, which I’m sure we’re nuanced and all, but I would like personally commend karl on limiting his field of outrage to “the recounts requested by the Gore campaign.”
Obviously, some of the simmering resentment from the left arises from the way the dispute was ended (i.e., many of the people I know were more irritated by the Supreme Court stepping into state law).
But, it takes fine lawyering to ignore the rest of the findings of the study he cites, which concluded counting undervotes in selected counties would have resulted in no change in the outcome, but noted a statewide recount in of undervotes most likely favored Gore, while a count of overvotes in the selected counties or Florida in general demonstrated a substantial lead for Gore.
In the end, it’s sort of like arguing whether Michigan could have beaten UNC in the ’93 title game if Chris Webber had not called his ridiculous time-out, i.e., it doesn’t matter anymore (any questions about Bush’s legitimacy were rightfully cast aside when he won re-election) and the only people who are riled up are partisans who are still mortified at the amateur nature of the strategy of the eventual loser.
You can take this to the bank: Without Webber’s TO, UNC would still have won and Gore received more votes in Florida than Bush did. But neither thing matters today.
For a decent overview, for once, of the recount you can actually go to Wikipedia (of all places) and follow the links to the findings of the news organizations.
But, don’t stay away too long, because next up for Karl is taking on the great-great-grandson of Samuel Tilden for daring to say Rutherford Hayes cheated in the 1876 election. After all, Karl can still keep his partisan affiliations intact as he defends Hayes!
I personally look forward to karl’s encyclopedic examination of Democratic cabinet officials’ statements of historical disputes! After Hayes/Tilden, maybe Nixon/Kennedy? And, then Adams/Jefferson? Oh, and I’m pretty sure I heard Steven Chu imply that William the Conqueror’s title to the throne of England was nowhere nearly as legitimate as Harold the Second’s. You set ’em straight, karl!
timb (449046) — 8/13/2009 @ 8:28 amtimb, do you really have to make such a fool of yourself. Gore got caught cheating. The FLSC got caught violating the FL constitution and the US Constitution.
