No Car Left Behind

Given the problems and uncertainty associated with the government’s Cash-for-Clunkers program, fifty large car dealers have come up with their own automotive stimulus rebate program:

“The dealers’ program, dubbed the Automotive Stimulus Plan, was slated to start on Aug. 14 but was launched early due to instability in the Cash for Clunkers program. But unlike the federally-funded program, the dealers are declaring all vehicles older than 2007 models to be eligible for trade-ins, and they are allowing the money to be used to buy or lease both new and used cars.

Brian Benstock, vice president and general manager of the Paragon Auto Group in New York City, one of roughly 50 participating dealers nationwide, said the private push is designed to fill “gaps” in the federal program, including the exclusion of used cars from the Cash for Clunkers plan.

“So you left out nearly half of the potential market,” Benstock told FOXNews.com. “We wanted to come up with a program in that no car would be left behind.””

Apparently there are still a few capitalists in America.

  2. I’m assuming it they don’t arbitrarily hulk smash the cars what get traded in. It doesn’t say exactly but presumably they’re not economically clueless dirty socialist eco-trash tards.

  3. Time to start seriously looking for a late-model diesel Jetta.

  4. I assume they strip the cars for salvageable parts, and scrap the rest. Lotta scrap value in an autobody, let alone the value of parts.

  5. happyfeet, of course they don’t crush the cars.

What’s interesting is that one of the ‘scams’ (that aren’t scams) is that a dealer will give you a $4500 trade in on a car, citing cash for clunkers, but then not destroy the car or get the cash from the feds… They just sell the car.

These days, that’s not really a bad deal for a dealer. Or the environment.

  6. Do they salvage the clunker cars? I assume they do to some extent, though I understand they destroy the engine, the most important part. How stupid for the environment for force the production of thousands of engines.

  7. oh there’s the word it in there for no reason whatsoever … It’s embarrassing how desperate and undignified our dirty socialist government is behaving with its car welfare programs. I bet tourism to Europe is falling rapidly cause what do they got that you can’t get here? Euthanasia?

  8. Juan,

The engines from the clunkers likely aren’t very useful. I mean, not only are they fuel-hogs, but they are OLD.

Odds are, they are worth more for scrap than for parts. That sort of age is murder on an engine.

    Well, a non-diesel engine.

  9. Scott, my 25 year old Mercedes S-class wants to come over and whoop yer butt.

  10. ohnoes. It looks like you Loser Americans are mostly using your dirty socialist car welfare for to buy section 8 SUVs to haul your fat Loser American asses around and also the fat Loser American asses of your fat children. I remember when Americans could buy their own cars all by themselves and also look good in a pair of jeans. It’s so sad what you pathetic people have come to. I giggle a little at your fat welfare-SUV driving asses on your way to Ikea for to buy some more timeless family heirlooms.
