Anti-Hug Quote of the Day

Filed under: Obama — DRJ @ 8:33 pm

[Guest post by DRJ]

Then Senator Barack Obama to Bono, after he successfully avoided a hug from President George W. Bush:

“Nice work with the hug dodge.”

Here’s a link to the original report from Irish Central. I guess some hugs, like some days, are better than others.

  1. Democrats, independents and Republicans who are tired of the division and distraction that has clouded Washington, who know that we can disagree without being disagreeable, who understand that, if we mobilize our voices to challenge the money and influence that stood in our way and challenge ourselves to reach for something better, there is no problem we cannot solve, there is no destiny that we cannot fulfill…”

    Senator Obama, Jan. 7, 2008

Democrats and President Obama, I call Bullshit on your post-partisanship.

  5. Bono’s an annoying name-dropper.

I doubt this homo-erotic cabaret act happened at all.

  6. Is a tosser anything like a poofter?

    JSF – Amen.

    JD (870a39)

  7. Actually, a tosser is more like a wanker.

    Mike LaRoche (d83224)

  8. Is a wanker sort of like a knob?

    PC14 (82e46c)

  9. So, kind of like Fary Garber.

    JD (870a39)

  10. Better a “tosser” than a “tossee,” maybe?

    Eric Blair (acade1)

  11. Man hugs are so 2006, just like fist-bumps are so 2008. Can we please go back to shaking hands now? I’m even willing to return to the 70s-style soul handshakes, if it means not having to watch men hug any longer.

Yeah, I am of English ancestry.

    JVW (0267b8)

  12. Ahh, Bono. All that big talk about helping the poor, but when Bush champions ideas that save lives in Africa, where’s Bono? Refusing to treat Bush like a mere human being?

It’s always about the Democratic party to these people. Absolutely nothing else matters.

  13. happyfeet, as much as I cannot stand Øßåmâ, even I can see that he’s introducing Pooty-Poot’s Puppet to those people, not being snubbed.

    Dave (in MA) (d51df8)

  14. I thought so too but I defer to Cap’n Ed who I think thought different … he’s very exactitudinous about such things … I could be misremembering though … lemme check brb

    happyfeet (c75712)

  15. #12, Yeah, I am of English ancestry.

Well, that is funny b/c Brit Men are solely responsible for making cross dressing and gender bending rather socially acceptable.

  16. doesn’t look like Mr. Cap’n Ed ever backed off that story… here is where I’m looking…

  18. “Nice work with the hug dodge.”

This from an idiot who, so oblivious to proper etiquette, bowed before the king of Saudi Arabia several months ago.

    Mark (411533)

  19. #19, Actually Mark, the whole Saudi thing was BHO was trying to see which side his in-seam swung. (LOL)

  20. karma is sorta not Barack Obama’s friend I don’t think

I don’t understand that response to Obama. Regardless of my opinion of him, or anyone else, for that matter, it’s oddly rude to respond to a person in such an unfriendly manner, certainly when he or she is trying to be courteous. But there is an interesting and ironic counterbalance to the situation when Obama previously was smug about the same thing happening to George Bush.

    Mark (411533)

  21. Of course, Bono did some nice work on his tax dodge, too.

    Jim C. (b33a68)

  22. That Bono would reacted that way really reveals how much he is so not about loving his neighbor in spite of all his Jesus talk.

Here is a link further revealing what a clueless twit he is,

Africans to Bono: ‘For God’s sake please stop!

And even though Bullet the Blue Sky is one of the coolest songs, I really loathe this little spank of a man.

    Dana (57e332)

  23. even I can see that he’s introducing Pooty-Poot’s Puppet to those people, not being snubbed.

Yes, it actually is a case of members of the White House entourage (or the US diplomatic corp) being introduced to Russia’s president.

    Mark (411533)

  24. Bono did some nice work on his tax dodge

Africans to Bono: ‘For God’s sake please stop!‘

Ah, yes, a perfect example of limousine liberalism and the soft bigotry of low expectations.

    Mark (411533)

  25. Mark @19 – Didn’t he just salute some other country’s flag over the weekend too?

    daleyrocks (718861)

  26. shows you how classless ear leader is. a low-life thug and bully if ever there was one.

    ktr (2273a6)

  27. Assuming that Bono is all for controlling AGW, you have to wonder if he’d hug Al Gore, energy hog, or George Bush, who built an energy efficient, conservation-friendly home years before Gore started making money off the shell game of carbon credits.

btw – Gore is still an energy hog, can they rescind his Nobel?

    harkin (3769c8)

  28. Actually, this would have been a better video to post on the question of whether some hugs are better than others. (From Hot Air, in which a capitalist pranks the “free hugs” guy.)
