Andrew Sullivan aka “Milky Loads”: Sarah Palin Hurt Her Own Family

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 9:00 pm

Yes, that is according to Andrew Sullivan (link not safe for work, but posted to remind readers of Sullivan’s hypocrisy). He says:

I sure hope [Sarah Palin’s] family recovers from what she has done to them.

So quoth the man who has been responsible for more misery to Sarah Palin’s family than anyone else I can think of.

Quiz: which woman-hating gay man has done more to set back the cause of gay rights, by engaging in unreasoned and unhinged attacks against popular and attractive women in the public eye?

a) Perez Hilton
b) Andrew Sullivan (again, link is not safe for work)

Me, I have trouble deciding. But if gay marriage doesn’t catch on in Andrew Sullivan’s lifetime, the blame will lie in no small part on people like Sullivan, who have reinforced negative stereotypes of gay men as women-hating queens (and promiscuous, immoral sex addicts — click the not-safe-for-work link if you have any doubt about that).

Well done, Andy. Well done indeed.

P.S. I sure hope gays recover from what Sullivan has done to them.

  1. Thanks for the link. It did wonders for my diet.

  2. JESUS I forget how disgusting that ad was.

HIV?? POZ dude!!! Poz 4 sho. Hope you are too!

    How disgusting.

About Palin? I think it’s amazing that Sullivan is so stupid that he would make these kinds of attacks when he could make plenty of really good ones if he just turned on some basic filter.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  3. Damn! And I dropped pre-Med because of a cadaver?

    nk (956ea1)

  4. I don’t know which one is more scared of vaginas, Sully or TBagg. At least Sully is out of the closet.

    daleyrocks (718861)

  5. The complete lack of introspection and self-awareness that would allow him to type those words is breath-taking.

    JD (4230cf)

  6. Twenty years or so, ago, if you wrote a fiction story about a journalist from a mainstream, east-coast magazine who is teh ghey and places ads to get ass fucked, but also abuses a woman, vice-presidential candidate by writing extremely, vile attacks on something called the Internet, you would seriously be considered out of your mind.

I think Sarah and Todd Palin are probably very good parents and they will always be proud of their children. Somehow, if Andrew Sullivan’s dad is still alive, I just gotta think if he saw the “load friendly” ad, he’s got to be asking himself: “Jesus, where did I go wrong?”

    PC14 (82e46c)

  7. I’m passing on the Sullivan link but m1y hope is that Palin, once freed from frivolous lawsuits as a governor, turns right around and starts filing lawsuit after lawsuit against Sullivan. And I hope they’re extremely frivolous and annoying and obnoxiously invade his reproductive life (as gross as that may be).

    Dana (8d88ef)

  8. I’m passing on the Sullivan link smarter than Juan

    – Dana

    Juan (bd4b30)

  9. Heh. Once was enough for me, about a year ago. Disgusting and sick took on whole new meanings.

    Dana (8d88ef)

  10. Yeah, I’m sure a lot of people who voted for Prop. 8 and other anti-gay-marriage initiatives did so because they read Andrew Sullivan’s blog and were outraged at the mean things he said about Sarah Palin. Seems likely.

    Brolic Johnson (280b11)

  11. It’s not even true. The Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan would like nothing better than for Sarah Palin’s family to suffer grievous harms that he could lay at Sarah Palin’s feet and mince around naked doing an interpretive dance for his beagle about how he tried to show her how very very self destructive she was being but she wouldn’t listen.

    happyfeet (e8d590)

  12. Andrew Sullivan is an astonishingly angry person and Palin is his personal hate receptacle.

    Dana (8d88ef)

  13. Unhinged sexual behavior and sound judgment in general can be mutually exclusive, but I can’t believe someone like Andrew Sullivan — sort of a Typhoid Mary — isn’t messed up in the head in general due to one thing in particular. Not too different from the case of Mark Sanford, in which something is so squirrelly about one aspect of a person (flaky secretive trips and weird public confessions), that from a certain moment, one can never trust that individual’s judgment from that day forward.

    Mark (411533)

  14. Brolic, I honestly think that yes, some number of people were moved into Prop 8 support by Andrew Sullivan personally.

Just musing. the Black Panthers had an effect on whites. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks had the opposite effect. Read Andrew Sullivan’s proud sex ad, and all of a sudden, Rick Santorum’s warning of gayness leading to degeneracy seems plausible.

I say that as a person who sincerely doesn’t think the government should treat gays any differently than anyone else.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  15. happyfeet has a point. If Andrew Sullivan sincerely intends less harm on Bristol and Trig, he has an awfully strange plan.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  16. “Brolic, I honestly think that yes, some number of people were moved into Prop 8 support by Andrew Sullivan personally.”

Juan – Don’t forget about gay adoption. He gives the image of a model parent.

    Next point Brolic?

    daleyrocks (718861)

  17. He sounds like a stereotypical narcissistic rapist talking about his victim. Yeah, it’s her fault you raped her, she was just out there and begging for it without even considering her family. What an evil dude.

  18. a) Perez Hilton

    b) Andrew Sullivan

    c)All of the above

    There, fixed it for you!

    Jenny (3b8d8f)

  19. When will Sullivan do a story about
Obama’s kids already having an abortion
each? Neither one has a kid so abortion
    must be the explanation.

That or Obama uses a condom.

    jack (d9cbc5)

  20. Obama’s kids have nothing to do with this. Let’s just talk about Watusi Wusses and Shaved Sasquatches.

    nk (57f631)

  21. Both Andrew Sullivan and Perez Hilton will be consigned to a footnote of gay history — along with “Jeff Gannon” and Roy Cohn.

Readers of The Advocate are boiling mad that they put Perez Hilton on the magazine’s cover.

I take particular pride in having “outed” Sullivan for his barebacking.

    David Ehrenstein (2550d9)

  22. Sullivan would simply say, “Well, I’m not running for high public office.” But he nonetheless is, and was at the time he posted that ad, a reasonably prominent pundit preaching personal responsibility. So he non-candidacy for office doesn’t make his pronouncements any less hypocritical.

    Mitch (69e416)

  23. Sure sure. I bet if you took a poll at least 50% of Yes voters read Andrew Sullivan regularly. At least.

    Brolic Johnson (280b11)

  24. You know, after looking at that ad for the second time in three years, I have to laugh at the claim of 8% bodyfat. Really? In what altered universe, Mr. Man – Glutes? More like a beached whale.

    Dmac (e6d1c2)

  25. Why would anyone read BS from a person who spews hate like Sullivan does? He is politically motivated which means he is scared sh*tless of Sarah Palin and the values she stands for. Inwardly, Sullivan and people like him hate themselves because of what they have become. This selve loathing makes it impossible for them to care for anything.

    Zelsdorf Ragshaft III (57cae1)

  26. Brolic – Don’t those goalposts ever get heavy? Now, crawl back under your rock.

    JD (957fb5)

  27. Not just “personal responsibility,” Mitch. The day before his barebacking was outed he wrote a column castigating gays in the Castro for their allegedly wild over-the-top sexual ways. Clearly he wanted to do everyone else one better.

That Barebackcity.com site died, BTW — along with its owner.

    David Ehrenstein (2550d9)

  28. JD:

Last time I was here I thought I told you to concentrate on work during business hours. I know that you normally have to tell toddlers something several times before they do them, but I thought that you had progressed beyond that by this point. Also, I know you’re attempting to ‘fight the good fight’ and all, but your comments belie your insistent claims that you are a successful and intelligent human being.

    Amphipolis (b120ce)

  31. Brolic, you do not read well. The assertion refers to “people like Sullivan”. Not “Sullivan all by his lonesome.” You are a tedious troll.

    Phil Smith (1cf25d)

  32. No hat tip to Ace? This was posted here yesterday:

Good to see Andrew Sullivan caring about Sarah Palin’s family’s health. Chutzpah!

    Comment by Joe — 7/8/2009 @ 8:37 am

    Joe (17aeff)

  33. Unlike lying douchebags such as yourself, Jeffrey, I can afford to take a long vacation after a very successful 1st half of the year, despite your Messiah’s desire to destroy our economy. Now, you run along back to flipping burgers. I have some beach time with my girls this morning, and a tee time this afternoon.

    JD (fd1993)

  34. Jesus wants to destroy the economy? Where did you read that? Is that in Revelation?

Ah, so you’d better rest up if you have to carry that bag for all 18 (or are you doing 2 rounds today)? Remember to keep quiet while the golfers are putting and you should get a nice tip.

    Jeffrey Diamond (fccb0b)

  35. Brolic, millions of people voted for prop 8. While most of them were probably not even aware of Sullivan, of course some were. And people who are aware of Sullivan are likely to be disgusted by him.

Every little bit helped get Prop 8 passed. Now, of course, the vitriol and hatred from the gay rights machine has probably made things a bit worse for themselves. It is a shame they don’t understand how these battles should be fought.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  36. That link is yet another reason why Sullivan does not allow comments.

    carlitos (730478)

  37. I sure hope [Sarah Palin’s] family recovers from what she has done to them.

It’s all Sarah’s fault that Letterman called her daughter a whore? That Democrats were selling “Retarded Republican Babies for Palin” T-shirts? That left-wing bloggers called her son Track (now serving in Iraq) a fag, a vandal, and a meth-head? It’s her fault her church was set on fire with people inside? It’s her fault an official DNC blogger put photoshops of Trig on her website?

    Sullivan really is deranged.

That Barebackcity.com site died, BTW — along with its owner.

Partly because barebacking has gone mainstream in the gay community, and gays can indicate their preference for it in their profiles at other gay hook-up sites.

    Gregory of Yardale (07425b)

  38. That link is yet another reason why Sullivan does not allow comments.

    Comment by carlitos — 7/9/2009 @ 7:42 am

Give Mr. Sullivan a break. Dishonesty combined with narcissism plus mental unhinged status make one very, very allergic to public exposure and humiliation.

Which makes posts like the above, and comments like these:

P.S. I sure hope gays recover from what Sullivan has done to them.

all the more hilarious. Go Patterico!

    no one you know (7a9144)

  39. You’re correct, Juan, it was the condescending ad campaign by the opponents,in the weeks before the election, that specially didn’t work against the African American or Hispanic element. Among more other working class folk, hanging Palin in effigy didn’t help, and probably had some impact. If there are any regrets she may have had, besides supporting TARP, it’s taking that stand on Prop. 8, which ran counter to the way she governs,
whatever her personal beliefs are on the subject.

    narciso (4e0dda)

  40. I forgot all about the Palin effigy.

That was particularly strange. She accepted a nomination!!! burn her! She’s a witch!

    Juan (bd4b30)

  41. Gay marriage should be derailed because of the propensity of gays like Frank Lombard to abuse the children they adopt. He’s not the first (though the media is reluctant to provide this news – wonder why?) and all evidence points to a much higher rate of sexual abuse of children by male gay parents.
Screw the children – support gay marriage and adoption.

    Marko (97c5c7)

  42. a) Perez Hilton
    b) Andrew Sullivan

Aha, I think I’ve figured it out–Perez Hilton is Excitable Andy’s secret identity for when he wants to take a break from abusing politicians and abuses celebrities instead. The public hissy fit over Miss California’s answer should have been the tip-off. The secret will undoubtedly be revealed for good when Ms. Prejean gives birth for the first time and “Perez Hilton” immediately claims that the baby is actually her daughter’s, immediately running afoul of three different aspects of objective reality and revealing a level of ignorance of math and female biology that could belong to no one but Andrew Sullivan.

    M. Scott Eiland (5ccff0)

  43. What is ironic is Palin, while I think you can make the argument she is underqualified (which you can also make against Obama), is not a “radical Christianist.” She is not against teaching evolution (nor has she actively promoted teaching creationism in schools), has a typical Western state live and let live attitude towards gays, and is a fiscal conservative. She never came out for torture, she is not any more against gay marriage than Obama, but she drives Andrew Sullivan absolutely bat shit crazy.

Why? What is it she did to set him off? And why the personal attacks all the time? Why the obsession with Trig (a not so subtle message with this post?). Sullivan could do a Krauthammer/Frum/Parker take down of Sarah Palin and call it a day. There are plenty of conservatives who do not want her running for President in 2012 now. But that is not good enough.

Sullivan also recently claimed it was not the Atlantic, but other forces that tried to shut him down. Hmmmm. So that self imposed several day strike when he was in full Trig Trutherism attack mode had nothing to do with his employer? So who were the forces who attempted to shut him down?

Ultimately Sullivan was humiliated and he will not forgive that slight (even though he brought it all on himself by acting less responsible than the worse tabloid rag) so Inspector Sullivan will track Sarah Palin down forever.

    Joe (a32cff)

  44. Marko, unfortunately, straight people molest kids too. And when you look at the life of kids who don’t get adopted, it’s really hard for me to accept that kids are better off by preventing loving parents, with all kinds of eccentricities, from taking them in.

It’s a tricky issue, making sure adopting parents aren’t going to harm kids, but kids that don’t get adopted are also harmed.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  45. One More Thing: Sullivan’s big thing lately is to grouse that no one in the media is doing their job and asking hard questions of those in power.

And by that he means — I crap you not — no one is asking Palin about the birth of Trig.

Every few days he writes something like, “Why is no one in the media willing to do their jobs and ask the difficult questions?”

But here’s the thing: Sullivan himself is no longer allowed to “ask the difficult questions.” He can only do so evasively and by implication (meanwhile attempting dishonestly to comply with his corporate masters and pretend he’s not asking it).

    Ace, Asking the Important Questions.

    Joe (a32cff)

  46. Now, you run along back to flipping burgers.

I object, your honor – statement assumes facts not in evidence. Nothing has been presented that proves said douchebag has ever actually worked at any job, other than head fluffer on his summer breaks from grade school.

    Dmac (e6d1c2)

  47. I do not give a shit what Sullivan does in his priviate life and I would vote for gay marriage (I oppose attempting to create gay marriage rights through courts, instead of through legislation or referendum).

I have agreed on Sullivan in the past on issues like fiscal conservatism (which he has now seemed to forgotten about since the ascent of Da One).

But this obsession of his with Sarah Palin and his children is bizzare and frankly pathological. Why? What is it about Palin that drives him so insane? Hell, it is almost like he wants McCain sent to Gitmo for bringing Palin into the spot light.

    Joe (a32cff)

  48. I don’t get the burger flipper thing. I love burgers, and therefore appreciate people who put in an honest day of flipping them for an honest day’s pay. Burger flippers have never banded together to demand that the government force me to pay him extra, or for burgers I didn’t want to eat.

Democrats aren’t all like this, but these guys seem to really hate the lower class.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  49. The “difficult questions” have to do with Palin’s actual record as a governor. Even some of her critics (and here I’m talking about actual Alaska citizens whose opinions are the ones that really matter) don’t fault her for everything. The problem is that she’s resigned. And short of some family emergency the particulars of which we haven’t as yet been informed, there’s really no excuse for it.

    David Ehrenstein (2550d9)

  50. Marko, at 41: do you have a peer-reviewed study which backs up the assertion that gay couples are more likely to sexually abuse adopted children than straight couples are, or are you just repeating rumor and innuendo?

    aphrael (9e8ccd)

  51. … or are you just repeating rumor and innuendo?
    Comment by aphrael — 7/9/2009 @ 10:30 am

It was an asspull (hey, that’s what we call it when DCSCA does it… gotta be fair) 😉

    Stashiu3 (3fc50f)

  52. Sullivan today says that Sarah Palin was lying about her reason for resigning.

Because she complained that she was mired in BS ethics complaints, and hat the ethics complaints were mostly settled… so her story is ‘false’.

He posts a link to a story implying that this is some journalism… that someone has uncovered an exaggeration or falsehood. Of course, Palin herself noted that she has won 15 ethics complaints only to be attacked with 3 more.

In this same post, Andrew notes that he is waiting for the ‘other shoe to drop’.

Meaning that Andrew is expecting Palin to have a problem with an ethics investigation. The ones that he is saying aren’t a problem for her because she’s already won most of them.

Because she already won 15 of 15 so far, he is saying she has nothing to worry about. Because there are 3 more and a promise from democrats to never cease doing this, he notes that she has a lot to worry about.

Andrew lies. The problem wasn’t just the ethics complaints. It was the FOIAs. Hundreds of them. Each with strict time lines that take her staff off administrating Alaska. And the legal bills. Palin was investigated more thoroughly than any politican in history, and clean as a whistle, but she still has to pay her lawyers. Andrew knows that her problems were not going away with democrats, and Andrew knows that Palin was out of money defending herself. But he lies, and says he’s found some proof she was lying.

The twists and turns Andrew is taking… reversing himself 3 times in a single sentence, is neck breaking.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  53. Maybe Sullivan is a closet straight and really wants Sarah.

    PatAZ (9d1bb3)

  54. Aphrael – Ignore BS like that. People like that no more represent the mainstream of thought around here than does Jeffrey Diamond and IMP speak for people like you.

    JD (42a8c3)

  55. Sullivan was a backer of Bush until shortly after the MA supreme court legislated gay marriages in the state. I have a contemporaneous email from Sullivan, in which he pooh-poohs my assertion that the MA decision would prove a disaster for the gay marriage movement. He actually thought that the opponents would throw in the towel now that a court had ruled.

When it proved out otherwise (notably in the DoMA and countless state initiatives like Prop 8), Sullivan turned on Bush and the Republicans with a vengeance.

In the case of Palin he seems to have from vengeance to madness. Not much else to explain it.

    Kevin Murphy (805c5b)

  56. ur…
In the case of Palin he seems to have GONE from vengeance to madness.

    Kevin Murphy (805c5b)

  57. Kevin, I sometimes can see where Andrew is coming from. I mean, he sees this as a core civil rights issue and felt betrayed by a man who had promoted civil rights in Iraq at great personal expense.

Andrew turning on Bush for reasons I disagreed with was understandable… though the way he turned on all these unrelated issues was transparently dishonest. His hatred of Palin is just whacky, but he’s always had a problem with women.

    Juan (bd4b30)

  58. Sully claims today that the only reason Palin is where she is, is due to her looks. Okay. She is a fine looking woman. That absolutely helps her. Sully then claims McCain picked her so he could look at her tits (no I am not kidding).

Don’t lump CK in with those two. He simply says she needs more seasoning. They say she’s unfit.

    Terry Gain (6b2a64)

  71. Fair enough Terry. My point is Sully could absolutely hate Palin, criticize her, and not go in the gutter. But Sully goes in the gutter anyway and drags in her kids (which I believe Frum and Parker never did).

Today he goes off on how corrupt and crazy McCain is (for the unforgivable crime of giving Palin the Veep nod). Jesus, it is like reliving the GOP primaries with Hugh Hewitt going after Mac to promote Mitt (or when the party went nuts over Immigration Reform). Things truly go full circle. Last time I checked, McCain was not running for anything outside Arizona.

What did Sarah Palin do, shoot one of Sullivan’s beagles? He is in a complete rage.

    Joe (17aeff)

  72. geez, I guess I am late to this game. But can someone say if that ad was actually Andrew Sullivan? Is there a post somewhere that discussed this? Sorry. I read a lot of blogs, or at least I thought I did, and I don’t recall seeing that ad.

    thanks for the clarification

    s

    stephen (6bdd2d)

  73. Glenn Reynolds linked to this Volokh article on the Mass challenge to Defense of Marriage Act. Sully has been crying how when he travels out of Massachusetts he is “divorced” (I am not sure if that means he can get some strange on the side, but that is how he described it).

Okay, snark aside, I get why Sullivan wants to overturn and get rid of DOMA, but why challenge DOMA in the courts?

Sullivan of course does not challenge his Democratic Party pals and Barack Obama about this. Why not? They control congress. They can repeal DOMA right now can’t they?

Just another example of Sullivan’s hypocrisy. He would rather play the victim and cry about Palin, Bush and McCain. Attacking McCain, who does Sully think he is? A conservative? Well two of them are out of office and McCain is not exactly doing a lot out side of Arizona (and policy wise is more moderate than conservative).

    Joe (17aeff)

  74. stephen, you can read about Sullivan’s hypocrisy and his admission that it was a real ad here on wikipedia. As always over there, follow the links.

  76. It’s like Sully operates through a refractive lens…
Whatever he writes about is 180-degrees from reality: Left is Right, and Up is Down.
Criticizing McCain because he selected Palin is a classic example:
His Veep selection was probably the only correct thing he did in the entire campaign.
