Joe Biden Speaks

[Guest post by DRJ]

Joe Biden entertains America with another clueless statement:

“Vice President Biden, on a conference call Monday with reporters, claimed that the planned Hudson River tunnel between New Jersey and Midtown Manhattan would provide a much-anticipated route for automobiles. Problem is, it’s for trains.
***
The $8.7 billion tunnel is among the largest new projects to be funded in the Obama administration’s $787 billion stimulus package.

“Look, this is designed, this totally new tunnel, is designed to provide for automobile traffic,” Biden said, according to The Record of Bergen County. “It’s something, as you know, up your way, that’s been in the works and people have been clamoring for for a long time.”

Great choice, Obama.

  1. I hope Joe is one of the very first people to drive his car through the tunnel.

  2. I recall all those folks, some of whom who barely dragged through a community college–or didn’t–who thought themselves real brainiacs compared to Palin.
And who absolutely refused to address Slow Joe’s cerebral shortcomings, even if asked directly and literally.
Those smiles of superiority are beginning to look sort of Novocained on, guys.

  3. The dumbest vice president ever in history.

    SPQR (72771e)

  4. John Nance Garner once said the job of Vice President wasn’t worth a bucket of warm piss. Now we have a VP who aspires to be that good.

    Steverino (69d941)

  5. I’m starting to think that many of my Democratic friends who railed about how “stupid” Palin was, but are silent about Biden are…just a little bit…sexist?

    Could it be?

I hope it is just partisan blindness. I mean, given how much the Democrats have lambasted the Right for being sexist.

    Eric Blair (0b61b2)

  6. Obamy is a wise man in this respect: no president could have a better life insurance than Slow Joe as Vice President.

Palin was right after all, she still would be better qualified on day one than Obama today, tomorrow and forever.

  8. My understanding is that they have not yet begun work on the $8.7 billion tunnel. How much do you think it will really cost by the time it is completed? My guess would be somewhere in the $15 billion neighborhood. Ol’ Joe is supposed to be the one making sure the money is spent wisely, but as he has already admitted, a great deal of it will be flushed away.

  9. Does Biden have gravitas yet?

  10. JVW,

After they add the automobile level to the tunnel (so that Joe doesn’t have to admit mistake), it will cost even more than $15 billion.

  11. When Joe ran for President he polled in the single digits.
I think I read that he got less than 1% of the vote in Iowa.
    That spells love to me.

  13. Kevin (2:01 pm), just wait until the Sierra Club finds out that the tunnel threatens the nesting site of the Jersey Swamp Rat. Once the tunnel is re-routed through Delaware (happy coincidence!) it will probably cost in the low twelve figures.

  14. It’s nice to see we’re fiddling with tunnels while Rome is burning

  16. Anyone that thinks the tunnel will be a huge success and come in under budget needs to remember that the democrats were behind the “Big Dig” in Boston… [object]!

From an estimated 4 billion to a final cost of over 14 billion… Thanks Kennedy and all you other spending libs.

  17. I’ve always contended that Obama chose Biden in order to make himself look brilliant by comparison – wonder how that plan’s working out right now?

  18. “Ol’ Joe is supposed to be the one making sure the money is spent wisely” Exactly! He’s supposed to be the “sheriff” watchdogging the ARRA/porkulus, right? But all he ever seems to do is travel and talk. I’d bet the guy doesn’t read anything, write anything, study anything, or do actual work of any kind.

    gp (e3032f)

  19. We could use another automobile tunnel. And at least two train tunnels–one commuter and one freight. And a bike and pedestrian lane would be nice, but I know that’ll never happen.

    tim maguire (4a98f0)

  20. And yet, despite several Bidenisms during the debate, Sarah Palin couldn’t clean his clock. One of the reasons I’d rather find another candidate.

  30. You’re so right DRJ. And to think — we could have had Sarah Palin.

  32. Thanks, DRJ, the title of the post alone made me smile with anticipation – you can count on Joe to deliver the goods!

  34. Actually, I’d prefer Joe as President. Why do I want a smart person trying to screw me?

    Kevin Murphy (805c5b)

  35. Dana,

I graciously thanked Palin just yesterday for her all her efforts to get Obama elected.

  39. As nk mentioned above, and we’ve bantered back and forth before. No matter what President Obama did to invite impeachment, the next in line is Joe, then Speaker Pelosi, and then (which I heard pointed out on radio) Sen. Byrd from W. Virginia.

Nothing more can be said, except the good thing about a tunnel is whether train or auto, it will trap all of the green house gases down there so they can’t affect global warming- in fact, let’s put the entire rail, highway, and airline systems under ground!!!

  50. The design of the tunnel would not have been this far along if the construction did not already have funding. So where have the dollars originally set aside for the tunnel construction been reallocated to?

I think you will see a corresponding boost in funding for future projects. Which means there is no increase in spending now as a result of this. It is a shell game. There is no other option, period.

Stimulus this is not, regardless of the types of vehicles that will use it. We are being lied to.
