Top Conservative Site on the Internet Omitted from B.S. List of Influential Blogs
Allahpundit mocks the latest stupid list of supposedly influential bloggers:
Seriously, though, we get a thousand times the traffic of the blog at number 100. What’s it going to take, Wikio? More Meghan McCain material? More O’Reilly-bashing? More gentle criticism of Palin that’s treated as a ferocious attack by her supporters in the comments? Work with me. . . . Also conspicuously absent from the list: Ace and Red State, among others.
Red State is there, actually, at position 50 — but Allah still has a point. There’s something farcical about a list that omits Hot Air and Ace of Spades, but includes Oliver Willis.
It gets worse. Check out the piece of crap blog they have at position 46. Proof positive this list is worthless.
Hey Patterico–I like you. As they said on the old Dick Clark American Bandstand, “I’d give it a 46, it’s got a beat, you can dance to it.”
But when Ace of Spades and Hot Air can’t crack the top 100 then it’s pretty sure that ABC News doesn’t know meadow muffins from Shinola.
Mike Myers (674050) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:14 pmWell, if you want to go higher, we’ll just have to start up the “Obama Sucks” campaign, again.
AD - RtR/OS! (1f03ac) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:30 pmWell, if you want to go higher, we’ll just have to start up the “Obama Sucks” campaign, again.
I’m not complaining that I’m at position 46, I’m complaining that I’m even on there at all, when Hot Air isn’t. I like my blog and all, but that’s ridiculous.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:32 pmAlso, Obama sucks!
Patterico (cc3b34) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:32 pmHi Mr. Patterico. If you go to wikio they show you the posts that most drove your ranking.
* Latest Copyright Thug: Perez Hilton
* Bill O’Reilly Blog Posting: “No Marriage for Homos”
* Patterico Banned from BillOReilly.com
Those ones are yours. I would say that was $4.95 well spent I think.
happyfeet (2d133f) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:39 pmIf Hot Chicks With Douchebags ain’t on the list, it’s just not worth being on the list at all. No disrespect intended.
Just sayin’.
daleyrocks (5d22c0) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:48 pmDon’t get me wrong. There’s plenty of douchebags on that list, but without the hot chicks, it’s not the same.
daleyrocks (5d22c0) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:52 pmI got to #5 and knew it was all nonsense.
Dana (aedf1d) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:56 pmThe poll ranking primarily comes from links, not readers, and I think some bloggers (present company excepted) link the article Hot Air discusses rather than the Hot Air post. I suspect that substantially cuts down on Hot Air’s links.
And you deserve every bit of that ranking because you’re a terrific blogger.
DRJ (180b67) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:58 pmOf the posts that happyfeet listed, most people were driven to those posts by a Hot Air link. (Some by Instapundit, but I think HA linked all three.)
What does that tell you?
Patterico (cc3b34) — 6/4/2009 @ 9:59 pmThat Hot Air inflates Patterico? 😉
Brother Bradley J. Fikes, C.O.R. (0ea407) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:04 pm“Check out the piece of crap blog they have at position 46. Proof positive this list is worthless.”
I figure any blog that allows me to post must have some pretty serious issues.
Dave Surls (f584ed) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:05 pmIt tells me that Hot Air has a lot of traffic and that dramatically increased the value of your links.
I agree Hot Air is influential and should be ranked. My point is that it gets shorted because people click through to the source and link that instead of the Hot Air post.
DRJ (180b67) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:06 pmohnoes. It’s not cause of that, DRJ from Texas. It’s cause Hot Air is in the wrong category.
Go here and look for the little Find a Blog // Name or URL box (not the Search in Blogs box) …
If you stick hotair.com in there you find out that Hot Air is the #32 ranked site in the “Other” category, which is not very helpful to anybody.
Here is what is to be done about this…
And that is the story of how Hot Air came to be disincluded from the wikio Political blog rankings.
happyfeet (2d133f) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:42 pmThey have the right RSS already … (http://feeds.feedburner.com/hotair/main) … and the URL … they just need to know what category it goes in
happyfeet (2d133f) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:46 pmoh.
They already figured this out at some site called Hot Air.
So nevermind I think.
happyfeet (2d133f) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:51 pmI told you, a year or so ago, when you were so pleased that you would be posting at Hot Air, that Patterico’s Pontifications was the better brand. Did you believe me? No! You had to hear it from ABC.
nk (157acd) — 6/4/2009 @ 10:51 pmThanks for the link (heh), happyfeet, but is your concern that Hot Air isn’t ranked high enough, that it’s in the wrong category, or both?
I’m going with both. Hot Air could easily be considered a top political blog but ranking #32 in the Top Blogs-general category is an impressive accomplishment. Nevertheless, it fits in both categories and since other blogs are considered in more than one category, Hot Air should be, too.
DRJ (180b67) — 6/4/2009 @ 11:08 pmHot Air might try opening registration or something. That might help.
Kevin Murphy (0b2493) — 6/4/2009 @ 11:30 pmoh … Hot Air needs be ranked high I think but not top-ranked so that way when they stop annoying me so frequently they have room to go higher and then they’ll get positive reinforcement for their new behaviours which to their surprise may actually even involve downplaying Sarah and Meghan and then they will be on the Right Path.
happyfeet (2d133f) — 6/4/2009 @ 11:30 pmIt’s funny, I basically don’t read HA unless someone links to it, because too much of it is video content, which takes too long when I’m grabbing 60 seconds of blog reading during downtime at work, and of the stuff that’s not, the signal to noise ratio is really poor.
Skip (ba6438) — 6/5/2009 @ 5:12 amFrom what I see, you have to Ban Conservatives to move up in rankings.
I didn’t expect to be on anyone’s list, except Obama’s “Get Even With Them” list.
PCD (02f8c1) — 6/5/2009 @ 6:07 amIf it includes Oliver Willis, that alone makes it farcical. Which tells you something about lefty blogs.
Phil Smith (1cf25d) — 6/5/2009 @ 7:39 amI think Scrappleface is pretty funny at times, but they don’t seem to be aware that it’s a parody of a news site. Pretty much says it all.
Dmac (1ddf7e) — 6/5/2009 @ 7:41 amMaybe if you had more pictures of hot chicks on your site, you’d do better than 46. Donald Douglas is almost shameless in using what he calls Rule 5 Blogging, and he cracked the list at #71.
Me, I’m thinking that my site came in at 101 or 102, and that’s why you don’t see it. 🙂
The Dana with helpful suggestions (3e4784) — 6/5/2009 @ 8:10 amLinking is not a good metric for influence. For examble Rush Limbaugh is very thought provoking, but dosn’t provide much to which to link.
Sites which get linked for purposes of sport,i.e. Daily Dish, get over-rated. Miss Sullivan may be among the most mocked bloggers, but certainly not one of the most influential.
That said, if influence is changing minds, I am at a loss how to attempt to measure it. It would make make a good poll question. Hard do say.
DavidL (02e14f) — 6/5/2009 @ 9:00 amNot to mention the worthless piece of crap at #89!
Jim Treacher (796deb) — 6/5/2009 @ 10:19 amI came across this blog only because of the ABC list. Interesting. Concern about ranking rather than content prevails. Smacks of ego.
EYEONPOWER (9d1bb3) — 6/5/2009 @ 12:06 pmThe only thing Oliver Willis can influence are the intenational markets for Little Debbie snacks and lard.
JD (72cf0d) — 6/5/2009 @ 3:16 pmMaybe Pravda should give us their version of the list of influential blogs…probably more trustable than the alphabet media indoctrination sites….what a freaking sad day for America when we’re forced to get more accurate news information from PRAVDA.
DaveinPhoenix (699f08) — 6/6/2009 @ 9:01 pmOliver Willis is a lying skunk.
In his comments section, I decimated his scapegoating of Glenn Beck for neo-Nazi Richard Poplawski’s murder of a Pittsburgh police officer with links and video evidence. But unlike Patterico and most other popular blogs, Willis doesn’t allow direct posting — he reviews the posts, and SURPRISE! My post blowing his schtuff out of the water wasn’t approved.
So I posted it on my own blog.
Willis’ subtitle is “Like Kryptonite to Stupid.” Apparently, he thinks kryptonite is magnetic.
