With Apologies to Instapundit . . .

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:49 pm

They told me if I voted for John McCain that we would get a president that would get more U.S. troops killed. And they were right!

  1. But this is different, Patterico! These are deaths caused by a Democratic administration. Completely different!

Be careful in your implied criticism. As Jon Stewart suggests, it may be akin to treason!

How are those Hellfire missiles doing? I thought they were terrible.

    But that was BBO.

Teh Great Leap Forward begins, heralded by Our Biden!

  2. Well, at least we won’t be hearing the “chickenhawk” smear.

We’ll be able to discuss this issue calmly, soberly and with no personal attacks waged.

Yeah, right, who am I kidding….?

  3. That’s change our soldiers can bleed on.

  4. Will the MSM attribute this increase to poor planning, muddled leadership, unfocused priorities and an out-of-touch administration?

    Perfect Sense (9d1b08)

  5. I’m sure that the NY Times won’t run graphics about the skyrocketing casualties as the Afghan surge ramps up.

Nor will they complain about deaths during the Pakistani incursion or report each errant missile strike as a war crime.

Next up: Iran getting yellowcake from Niger.

  6. How did the situation get to be so bad in Afghanistan? Oh, that’s right, our troops were taken from there to fight an unnecessary war in Iraq , one which I’ll bet Patterico and his commenters supported. Republicans can try to pretend that the dismal situation is not their fault, but as the last elections showed, the public isn’t buying it.

  7. #6 The situation is so bad in Afghanistan? In 2008, 151 Americans died in Afghanistan. This is less than the number of murders in the Democrat occupied territories of New Orleans, Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit.

Is the “unnecessary war in Iraq” supported by Patterico and his commentators the same war Hillary Clinton voted for and the same war funded by the Democrat Congress? Would that be the same Hillary Clinton Obama selected as Secretary of State?

    Perfect Sense (9d1b08)

  8. The public also isn’t buying discredited memes and other inanities by Trolls such as yourself – this is evidenced by Obama’s decision to keep the troop numbers at current levels. Or is that something completely different in your alternative -reality world?

Pray tell us, do you think the Surge was a disaster? Did you predict that action to be a failure even before it was launched?

Stupid argument. Plenty of Democratic legislators voted for the war in the first place, and the Democrats have controlled Congress since ’06. Even if they couldn’t have ended the war, they could’ve insisted on locking down the government until they met the expectations of their constituents… but they didn’t have the balls.

Quit crying and take responsibility for electing shitty representatives.

  10. tamizdat, your comment in #6 is simply a false myth.

  11. How did the situation get to be so bad in Afghanistan?

From everything I’ve read the main problem is that the Taliban and AQ, driven out of Afghanistan during the start of the war, have moved significant parts of their operations to Pakistan and we simply can’t get them there.

Whether we went into Irar or not is meaningless to this matter.

So, what do we do about Pakistan?

  12. The war in that country will get bloodier, he said, as the U.S. sends additional troops to take back territory controlled by Taliban militants, who were weakened when American forces invaded after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks but have regained strength in recent years.

He is right. It will be bloodier. The difference is that at least those brave soldiers will know what they are dying for. 🙁

If anyone in government service knows why they are fighting in Iraq, or Afghanistan,
it is the American Soldier, who enlists to get to a fight.
To say otherwise, is to recycle the BS from the Sixties which slandered an Army of draftees who,
with all their faults, were better than those who slandered them.

Tell it to Joe Cook, lovey. You may not know why they’re there, but they do.

  23. Ah Patterico but is that TOTAL troops killed or just more troops in Afganistan? Your headline suggests total troops but the story is about Afganistan only. Maybe you should take a break from parsing the LA Times to keep from being subtly reprogrammed by the writing in that paper into using their sneaky rhetorical tricks!

    Thread Jacking Alert!
Couldn’t resist, this was my fave quote from the linked story..
House Republican leader John A. Boehner of Ohio said. “We can’t borrow and spend our way back to prosperity.”
Haw Haw! Just love it when Pols accuse the other side of doing exactly what they have been doing themselves.
