If you’re going to display it 600*400, you ought to shrink it with a graphics editor so it isn’t 2.8 megabytes.
Steven Den Beste (99cfa1) — 12/13/2008 @ 10:56 pmThat’s a good idea. When the wife returns control of the computer to me, I’ll do it.
Patterico (97768a) — 12/13/2008 @ 11:10 pmPat: as long as you’re apparently here right now, just wanted to prove I’m not a complete flake…
A week or two back (sorry for the delay) I got a note stating that my PayPal donation to you couldn’t go through, supposedly because you don’t have a ‘Premium’ account.
Should I try again? Or is there any other way I can still send you the 20 bucks I promised? Snail mail to the Compton Courthouse, perhaps? Obviously the crisis at hand at the time (the domain name conflict) is long since resolved, but I figure $20 is a bargain compared to all the cold hard cash you’ve saved me in at-the-rack LAT purchases. 😉
qdpsteve (1c8fe7) — 12/13/2008 @ 11:14 pmNice shot.
Less sky, more grouse and landscape. I’d tighten your cropping– about 20-25%% of the sky away along top and right– as the cloud pattern seems non-distinct. Unless you pop the color electronicly and it brings out the cloud textures. There seems to be some rich color and textures in the rocks and off along the horizon as well.
The eye goes to left center of half-dome then down right along the sillouette of the grouse. Try the old trick of flipping the image upside down and see where your eye goes.
I always preferred film but a hi-res digital image can really be enhanced nicely.
DCSCA (d8da01) — 12/13/2008 @ 11:36 pmVery nice. I hope you had a good time.
The Intellectual Redneck (2c07a1) — 12/14/2008 @ 8:12 amI got hungry
L.Hackett (7a6786) — 12/14/2008 @ 8:52 amWow, look at all that California real estate! They aren’t making any more of it, you know.
Official Internet Data Office (e8e9f9) — 12/14/2008 @ 9:54 amwow, the sky is actually needed to make that shadow really pop. Interesting view.. a rorschach test would tell me it’s an elephant sporting a bruised eye. Hmm!
Vermont Neighbor (de46bd) — 12/14/2008 @ 11:56 amActually, on second thought, Steven Den Beste, I think I’ll leave it as is, which gives readers the choice of clicking for a larger and more detailed version.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 12/14/2008 @ 12:21 pmIf anyone is having trouble loading the page, however, let me know. If it’s a real problem for a lot of people, I can hide the photos in the extended entry.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 12/14/2008 @ 12:24 pmThe bear picture is taking a few seconds to load but it does not interfere with the rest of the page (I started typing this while it was still loading.
So you like mountains, too. Aspen in August is the vacation I can take every year … and not for the music festival. I’ll know when I’m old when I need to take the gondola, up or down.
nk (094d4d) — 12/14/2008 @ 12:48 pmOK, I took Steven Den Beste’s advice, so that I don’t kill my server.
