Many thanks to the Instapundit and others for linking the news about problems with Patterico.com. I’m sure Patterico will handle it but it may take awhile. In the meantime, let’s spread the word about the temporary change in the website address with a Letterman-style:

Top Ten Reasons to Bookmark Patterico.net

10. Spreading the word is a lot cheaper than spreading the wealth.

  1. There seems to be a fair amount of this nonsense going on. Oleg Volk is going to court over The High Road, which got grabbed by his sysadmin.

    As to reasons, how about:

    “Now, with 55% more fleem!”

“Because without the new TLD, it’d be like playing Patterico without the NET.”

    Joel Rosenberg (5ec843)

  2. 2. On Fridays, we blog in our underwear.

DRJ – I feel comfortable speaking for everyone when I say that we would like to respectfully request some link-y confirmation of same.

Patterico and WLS, not so much.

    😉

  3. Can’t say I’ve been impressed by anything I’ve read here, but one way to deal with this issue is to compile the information and make sure it gets out to tech/SEO sites rather than just some political bloggers.

  4. It’s Friday, TPS reports are due by 16:30 Pacific Daylight time.

Don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time has been extended one more week. Set your clocks back at 2 am local on Sunday, November 2, 2008, not the day after tomorrow.

And change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors!

  5. If there was some way to convince the trolls to stay at the .com site, it would make for a nice outcome.

  6. Dear DRJ,

    2. On Fridays, we blog in our underwear.

    1. Patterico.net is Change We Can Believe In.

Does this mean you’ll now change your underwear on Fridays? It’s more than I could have hoped for!

  7. So it’s formalwear Friday where you are, too?

  8. I called 1&1 and got through to India. The explanation wasn’t very good. I have instructed my IT department to change providers. I’m worried about my account.
Clearly this organization *cannot* be trusted.

  9. I haven’t had problems with them at all and I’ve been with them nearly 4 years (on another thread I said nearly 5 years, but I was mistaken… very tired today).

  10. This “mixup” could be a random “rat-fu##” by an Obama supporter. The sequence that Pat was maneuvered into could have been some 1&1 employee’s personal project. In which case the domain name will be returned shortly.

    Or not.

    Kevin (805c5b)

  11. I got a response to my e-mail to 1&1 but it was blank with my text shown as a quoted text but no reply.

    Efficiency.

  12. Sometimes incompetence is hard to distinguish from sabotage. Right now, the old link brings a “site not available” message, which is a change from earlier when it brought the “Site Available” thing. ICANN’t is going to have to get their act together.

  13. Thanks for the word on this. I lost you for a bit.

  14. No need to assume it was “enemy action” when incompetence and/or greed can explain it. In any case, our blogroll link has been fixed and announcement made. We don’t wanna miss our Patterico!

    Tully (c2f070)

  15. It’s not a quick solution, but I think you can be confident that arbitration via ICANN would ultimately work in your favor. A mere filing could induce the opposite side to give up and settle.

A company I once worked for was involved in a domain name dispute. We had excellent lawyers, but the ICANN-appointed arbitration panel found for the other party, a non-lawyer who wrote his own filing.

The whole thing forced me to learn more about domain names and ICANN than I wanted to. Based on my experience, however, I think you’d be in a very strong position.

Another weapon at your disposal is publicity. This has the makings of an interesting story and it shouldn’t take much effort to make your antagonists look like the rip-off artists they are. You should pitch it to some of your contacts at the LAT. Seriously.

  16. Hey, wow, I was automatically redirected from the previous temporary address. Should I keep it the same or go and make it patterico.net on my blogroll?

    BTW,

    5. Patterico.net sends a thrill up Chris Matthews’ leg.

Could be sciatica. Three Motrins every six hours works for me.

  17. Good. I found you again. The truth will out.

  19. Wow. I just refreshed Patterico.net and ended up with a page full of hieroglyphics. Hit refresh again, same thing. Got here only by using back arrow several times….

    Dana (658c17)

  20. For now, at least, patterico.com redirects to patterico.net. Which suggests it hasn’t been successfully hijacked, else it would redirect to TalkLeft, Daily Kos, LA Times or DU.

  21. Thanks for such an important articles about coupon. This is a very needed info about online coupon, free coupon etc.

    Laura (dfccdd)

  22. Its a nice post about online shopping because Online shopping is fast becoming the most preferred mode of shopping whereby shoppers can reap the advantages of Internet shopping from the luxury of their homes.
