If You Can See This . . .
. . . then you’re probably using the Patterico (Temporary bookmark) and already know that I’m having issues with my domain registrar.
I don’t want to talk about the details right now. For now, I’ll just assume that this is merely another in a long line of missteps on their part, and that this will all be taken care of by midday today, as they assured me last night.
P.S. I’m still hearing from a lot of people who can’t get through to the site. Please spread the word about the Patterico (Temporary bookmark).
FWIW, I was redirected to 70.32.75.225 automatically from my regular old “patterico.com” bookmark.
Beldar (415068) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:20 amTo be more precise: The redirect was not only seamless and instant, but indistinguishable from any visit I’ve made to your site for months, except that the address line in my browser is showing the 70.32.75.225 address rather than “http://www.patterico.com” as it would normally shown. (Right now, actually, it’s showing “http://70.32.75.225/2008/10/23/if-you-can-see-this/#comments”).
Beldar (415068) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:23 amThat is happening for me, but I think it may have something to do with “caching” — and the effect may expire before this company manages to get the transfer done.
It all depends on whether they’re telling me the truth when they talk to me on the phone.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:25 amBasically:
1) More regular users are more likely to be able to get through for now; and
2) Even regular users may soon find themselves directed to that Sedo parking page.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:26 amI was just sent to the parking page. Glad I listened and bookmarked 70.32.75.225.
Old Coot (1ee5b7) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:44 amYou got a mention in Ann Coulter’s latest column http://www.anncoulter.com/
Yesterday, when I clicked my old bookmark for you, I got redirected here, now I get this message “Sedo Domain Parking This domain has not been entered into the Sedo database by the domain owner and therefore cannot take part in Sedo’s parking programme.”
Fortunately, I followed your advice and also bookmarked this spot.
zmdavid (8109af) — 10/23/2008 @ 7:17 amHey, was our honored host invited to the LAT Blog meetup?!
Patricia (ee5c9d) — 10/23/2008 @ 8:23 amLAT Pizza Party
I got that Sedo Domain Parking this morning. Temporary bookmark works just fine.
JD (6248dc) — 10/23/2008 @ 8:24 amDitto #5…
Another Drew (b4e6e5) — 10/23/2008 @ 9:06 amI was in an electronics store last night and tried out a laptop with a lot of extra buttons crowded around the keyboard. I hit the PP link from Michelle’s page and got the Sedo thang. I figured I must have inadvertently hit one of the other buttons, and tried it again. I was stunned.
I went to Network Solutions and did a WHOIS search, and saw that patterico.com was filed five years ago yesterday (Happy Anniversary, Pat!) and had been scooped up by some German outfit.
I felt similar to the way I felt many years ago when an allergy medication that did wonders for me was recalled.
L.N. Smithee (d1de1b) — 10/23/2008 @ 9:56 am“…five years ago yesterday…”
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Now, grab those assholes by the nuts, and twist very hard.
Another Drew (b4e6e5) — 10/23/2008 @ 10:04 amVery happy anniversary!
m (4afcc2) — 10/23/2008 @ 10:25 amIs this German outfit maybe a subsidiary of the LAT? Or vice versa?
Thanks to Armed Liberal for pointing his visitors in the right direction, as well.
aphrael (e0cdc9) — 10/23/2008 @ 12:23 pmWhew, I thought you might have been bought up/out by the LA Times:
MikeH (e9e89c) — 10/23/2008 @ 2:20 pmWe Will Control The Vertical….
(Yippee, now we can really get an “Orange County Edition” of the Slimes).
Now I’m getting “http://sedoparking.com/?path=home” from my regular bookmark.
Your temporary one is linked at HughHewitt.com.
Beldar (415068) — 10/23/2008 @ 3:09 pmShe knows you are alive!
Ann Coulter called Patterico “the great blogger“.
Note to self: just berate her in a public forum when she’s in the wrong.
papertiger (0e4d32) — 10/23/2008 @ 5:27 pmI get Sedo Parking…
paterico.com has linked to you, bless him.
That’s easier to remember & mistype 🙂
tim (a135bc) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:35 pmThis is giving new meaning to the concept of anonymous blogging. Even the internet address is unlisted.
DRJ (c953ab) — 10/23/2008 @ 6:38 pmIs Sedo Parking a big Obama contributor? My bet is yes.
Peg C. (48175e) — 10/23/2008 @ 7:22 pmThe old address, patterico.com, is still not working as of 19:20 PST. I thought you had been hacked, so I googled “what happened to patterico.com?” and found this new page.
Brad (fa69c3) — 10/23/2008 @ 7:24 pmI’m still not sure I *wasn’t* hacked, in a sense.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 8:23 pmFWIW, I hope these kidnappers get what is coming to them.
JD (a9d6c5) — 10/23/2008 @ 8:29 pmI have a plan, but I’m trying to be patient.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 10:04 pmMy offer to help remains on the table.
JD (a9d6c5) — 10/23/2008 @ 10:06 pmIf you want to help, find me a lawyer who can help me sue 1&1 if necessary. I’m deadly serious about this. But they’d have to be willing to do it pro bono for the publicity.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 10:24 pmActually, I heard back from a lawyer who is one of the most formidable civil attorneys I know. He’s willing to do it pro bono but is unfamiliar with the policies and procedures involved. (He’s a quick study.) If anyone can point me in the right direction on that front, I have someone who will take the fight to these assholes if necessary.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 11:28 pmPatterico – OT, but your friend Cyrus the Virus appears to have been a busy boy, filing an 80 page ethics complaint against Judge Kozinski at the end of September, which apparently also smeared 10 other judges. The “legal strategy” continues.
daleyrocks (d9ec17) — 10/23/2008 @ 11:35 pmYup. Maybe I should hire him! He’d be persistent at least.
Patterico (cc3b34) — 10/23/2008 @ 11:50 pmHis degree of persistence would run up a hefty bill.
