PBS Poll on Palin’s Qualifications

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 6:52 pm

PBS is running a poll asking whether Sarah Palin is qualified. Leftists are sending viral e-mails trying to get people to vote no. One of my readers received the viral e-mail by accident, and suggested I post the link.

The poll is currently dead even. Go here and vote.

  1. I wonder if they ever considered the irony that she is more qualified than the Dems Presidential candidate.

  2. She can’t be more qualified than Obama…
    She’s a Republican!

Took the words right outta my mouth. Was astonished a few days ago at the level of vitriol that poured of the mouth of an Obama supporter when I tried as nicely as I could to point that out to her. Why I keep trying to talk to these people I don’t know.

  4. I think the poll is bogus. I saw it several days ago and it was dead even then.

  5. The left certainly has their share of idiot time-wasters thinking they’re making a difference in the campaign, too. Maybe part of it is that nobody has any idea what’ll move a swing voter — if they haven’t made up their mind by now, what in god’s name does it take? So they try anything and everything.

  6. It’s not really “PBS” so much as NOW, i.e., Bill Moyers.

A perhaps more effective way to deal with things like this is to discredit the poll’s creator: pbs.org/now/palin-poll.html

On a side note, videos like this are burning up Youtube; see the related videos and the ones from the same author. Perhaps someone else would care to see if there are any clues that any of those people could be plants. For all I know they’re all real, but if someone can come up with something that looks suspicious that might be helpful.

  10. Here’s a better idea, and here’s what I do (and suggest others do) whenever one of these emails regarding an online poll comes out: go there, and vote “no, she’s not qualified”.

Online polls are meaningless. Worthless. Statistically null. Every intelligent person knows this, that a self-selected sample says absolutely nothing about the preferences of the population of the whole. Unfortunately, not everybody is intelligent, so not everybody understands this. If online polls routinely resulted in obviously ridiculous outcomes (“95% of people who voted in our online poll say that Sarah Palin isn’t qualified, and also that ice cream is bad and Bush is worse than Hitler”), maybe people would start to get it.

It’s a mistake to try to fight the left on online poll get-out-the-vote popularity contest efforts. They vastly outnumber us in the key demographic of “people with nothing better to do”, and they’ll beat us if we try to compete in this arena.

  11. I was trying to be positive before, but what the heck: freeping polls is meaningless.

If you want to have an immediate impact, in addition to what I wrote above go discredit those members of the MSM who have comments sections. For instance, I’m almost always the only person (aside from a satirist or two) who disagrees with the hacks at Time’s Swampland (time-blog.com/swampland). Considering that their magazine has millions of subscribers, if several people were able to forcefully and repeatedly point out their lies in comments at Swampland it might have an impact on the print edition. And, considering that they frequently lie or mislead, discrediting them isn’t that difficult. JoeKlein is frequently wrong, and AMC is frequently both wrong and stupid. And, they’re getting a lot of traffic: the top post currently has over 400 comments. It’s useless to leave a comment on that thread, but if you can get their early and you can provide facts that show they’re lying it could have a serious impact. As it is now, almost all of the comments are favorable and that forms a feedback loop.

And, if they get enough heat they’ll tell all their friends in the MSM.

The same technique can be used against the hacks at the WaPo.

For a tangible example, do a find for 24ahead.com here.

  12. McCain/Palin 08 bumperstickers come in packs of 5 – 10 – or 50. The thing to do – and this is really amusing at least to me, is go on and buy the 50 pack so you have plenty on hand and get the bulk discount.
Then instead of putting them on your car, you go on down to the local paper or college, find the cars with the Obama stickers, then cover them with McCain.
With any luck at all some snotty little Obamabot will come along and scratch the car paint or perpitrate some other anti-social behavior just as the security guard drives up.
    Two birds with one stone.

    I know it’s probably wrong.
    I’m a bastard.

  13. I know it’s probably wrong.

Yes, it is wrong to deface someone else’s private property.

OTOH, I have a lot of fun with a felt tip and the “Dear Leader” style O!bamessiah stickers stuck to public property in the college town where I work.

But private property? Respect for that is one our defining differences.

  17. One small item on the “troopergate” probe that the MSM somehow missed in its thorough coverage of the issue is the fact that the chief inquisiter, French, is another military imposter. Just like Dan Rather who claimed to be an ex-Marine and was discharged from boot camp as “unqualified.” These people are shameless.

    Mike K (2cf494)

  18. Phoney soldiers…
    Those on the Left create, out of whole cloth, resumes of service in a military that they have taken great pains to disparage;
while, what I perceive to be a large majority on the Right,
put aside their military service, get on with their lives, and only mention their service when pressed.
It was something they did, but is not the pinacle of their existence, or has to be proven.

  20. I take it, then, that you can’t prove that my post was harsh, partisan, and bellicose, so you’re changing the subject and just saying other stuff?

I cannot imagine why in the world anyone would think that you were being intellectually honest, non-partisan, post-racial, or anything other than a partisan hack.

So, it is okay to have an aggressively dishonest title, the title which is linked to in other blogs, so long as the content is light-hearted. So, a title that says “SEK buggers small farm animals” is alright as long as the actual post is about how to properly take care of a goat?

    JD (f7900a)

  25. Hey, where is the Biden poll?
    😉

Funny how the poll stays dead even…

  26. I cannot imagine why in the world anyone would think that you were being intellectually honest, non-partisan, post-racial, or anything other than a partisan hack.

JD, that’s because you’re being an idiot here. What you’re doing is defending your inability to click on the link, which is, you know, the point of a trackback. Not to be a complete statement in and of itself, but to point people to something. If people too stupid to click on links think I’m a partisan hack, I’m fine with that—because I’m not really interested in the opinion of people too stupid to click on links. Conversely, anyone reading this exchange who isn’t too stupid to click on a link will see what I was up to there and understand that I’m not a partisan hack.

(Also, I didn’t generate that trackback. It’s an automatic thing WordPress does, which is why even though I x-posted that to my TypePad blog, you don’t see a trackback to it.)

    SEK (072055)

  27. “SEK buggers small farm animals”

Is this a statement for the equality of animals with humans?
    Did they enjoy it?
Does this comport with the ideals of PETA?
Is this a result of Lawrence?

    Another Drew (1d7115)

  28. I voted that Sarah Palin is most definitely NOT qualified to be president. ANd you fail to mention that the viral was started by the right on this, otherwise there’s no way she’d be where she is.

But as usual, blame your slime on the other guys. Rule Number One in the GOP playbook.

Have no patience for your crap today asswipes.

  32. This is very curious, because I received this three weeks ago, and sent it to my friends. The poll results have remained at 50/50 for the entire three weeks, and notice that there aren’t any real voting numbers with the listing. I wonder if it’s set up so Sarah Palin never gets more than 50%. After all, NOW wouldn’t have an agenda in this race, would it?

    RC (acd06f)

  33. But, he does typify the average American from Idiocracy, SEK. In fact, after reading this post and his wild accusations, you could say he’d fit right into President Camacho’s cabinet.

    Mersky (a83d56)

  34. “PBS headquarters made the decision on September 22, to implement a cookie registration system on the Palin poll. That system is now part of the poll’s inner code, and as of September 23, a user can only vote once per computer. PBS acted because the entire pbs.org site had been experiencing system overload due to massive accessing of the poll.”

So, delete your cookies before voting again….
