A GOP Moment

CNN reports Sarah Palin gave another shout-out to Hillary Clinton supporters today in Pennsylvania but this time she was met with boos, groans and grumbles:

“As she did at in her debut speech in Ohio yesterday, Palin appealed to the women in the crowd here in Pennsylvania with a political shout-out to Geraldine Ferraro, who preceded Palin as the first women to be tapped as a vice presidential candidate. The reference was met with polite applause.

But in contrast with the mild reception that greeted the comment at the Ohio event, when Palin praised Clinton here for showing “determination and grace in her presidential campaign,” the Alaska governor was met with a noisy mix of boos, groans and grumbles …”

Sounds like an opportunity for Palin to have a Sister Souljah moment with her GOP base.

  2. OF COURSE, IF CNN REPORTS IT, IT MUST BE TRUE.

IF YOU DIDN’T SEE IT FOR YOURSELF, WHAT CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, ETC., REPORTS DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING.

THEY LIE. THEY LIE. THEY LIE. THEY WILL DO, SAY, ANYTHING TO SMEAR PALIN. THEY WILL DO, SAY ANYTHING TO PROTECT OBAMA AND BIDEN.

JOURNALISTS ARE VILE, VILE, SCUM. ENOUGH ALREADY! WHO GIVES A SHIT WHAT THESE MOUTH PIECES FOR THE OBIDEN SAY?

    JOHN, is that you????

  4. It’s true the media has been known to report boos that don’t exist. Perhaps I shouldn’t have accepted this report at face value.

  5. Palin comes not to bury Hillary, but to praise her.

  6. I saw her from the corner when she turned and doubled back
And started walkin’ toward a coffee colored cadillac
I was pushin’ through the crowd to get to where she’s at
And I was campaign shouting like a southern diplomat

    Nadine, honey is that you?
Oh, Nadine. Honey, is that you?
Seems like every time I see you Darling you got something else to do

    — Chuck Berry on Leno last night; excuse to lay down some lyrics from Chuck’s best song (“Nadine”), ’cause of Another Drew (JOHN, is that you????).

  7. Not hard to find other reports of boos at Palin’s mention of Hillary.

    Here and here, as well.

Apparently, she got the biggest cheers when she mentioned her husband Todd was “a proud member of the United Steelworkers Union.”

  8. Yeah, I think there were a few boos. It’s not too unsurprising. But Palin isn’t Hillary. She’s a woman, but otherwise they are not similar creatures.

I love how the NOW is opposed to her… I guess the NOW isn’t really about advancing women, just for advancing one issue in one direction. (ok, no one was surprised by this and my revelation is pretty unimpressive).

I don’t know that Palin can get many PUMAs, but there are many, many women in the undecided crowd who are definitely going to like Palin more than the other three. And Palin is getting such harsh attacks (the likes of which I’ve never seen), and they are almost entirely dishonest. That will be met with backlash.

  9. GOPers need to suck it up and accept praise for Hillary as the self-interested pander that it is. Imagine a scenario where McCain and Romney had gone to the bitter end to win delegates, and it had been Romney who squeaked out a win. Imagine too that McCain had been bypassed by Romney for the V.P. slot without so much as a token consideration. Don’t you think that under that scenario Obama and Biden would take every chance they had to salute McCain as an American Hero and to laud his years of service to the country? Don’t you think they would hope to peel off McCain voters who were disappointed in how things turned out? This is all that Palin is trying to do.

  10. All that’s missing is for them to march out Gloria Steinem and have her call Palin a “female impersonator” like she did Kay Bailey Hutchinson a few years back.

    M. Scott Eiland (a16843)

  11. They weren’t booing Palin, they were booing Shrillary’s name, it’s the worst dirty word in the english language to a lot of people. I’d be happy to never hear a Clinton criminal mentioned again.

    Scrapiron (c36902)

  12. The Hillary tribute should be part of press interviews but not part of the stump speech.

    WLS (5ce147)

  13. Eiland, it’s easy to get away with insulting Hutchinson because she is deeply unlikable (I have voted for her many times, but my very very brief and lowly stint on Capitol Hill taught me that even most of her staff dislikes her.

Palin is a woman. And a sweet mom. And that kind of politician we all pretend we could be when our mayor does something absurd.

She’s just too likable to be hated on. That’s why I think she was an excellent pick. She’s not like Harriet Miers… she really seems to have clear and articulated policy views, and I think she wouldn’t do a bad job at all running the country on day one. Hell, Clinton did it while sexually entertained by near-children.

What we need is someone who is smart and confident. That proverbial 3 am call. America will see if she can handle Biden… I think that’s as valid as most indicators, and if she sinks, well, she deserves to.

  14. Juan,

I am looking forward to voting against Hutchison in the Governor’s race.

Nah. Ignore the groans and scoop up the undecideds.

  16. NOW

I didn’t know they still used that acronym. I thought they took the advice of the most successful talk radio host in history and rebranded themselves as NAG – the National Association of Gals

  17. They weren’t booing Palin, they were booing Shrillary’s name, it’s the worst dirty word in the english language to a lot of people.

Yup, I’ll go along with that.

Did you hear them boo Obama at his convention speech when he mentioned Bush? Did CNN tell you Obama was booed at his convention speech? Sure you did, and of course not.

    Pablo (99243e)

  18. We were there yesterday (I’m still recovering from the drive), and CNN reported correctly. I thought it tasteless and inappropriate.

    rightwingprof (fbb932)

  19. Hearing it on the radio, it sounded like there were some cheers and applause as well. Not saying GOP loyalists like Hillary, but rather that the boos weren’t the only reaction, and that some in the crowd had the sense to have the politic reaction.

    Rob Crawford (b5d1c2)

  20. Yes, there were cheers too. Pics and a write up here, if you’re interested.

  22. Palin comes not to bury Hillary, but to praise her.

Exactly — Palin wants to hijack Hillary’s “I am Woman Hear Me Roar!” mantra, the anti-disabled AMericans platform.

That’s why it is such a flop.

  23. Did you hear them boo Obama at his convention speech when he mentioned Bush? Did CNN tell you Obama was booed at his convention speech? Sure you did, and of course not.

You forgot to add the part about how the mention of the word “Bush” that invoked the booing, arose because what everyone is really thinking *but too afraid to ask* is the following:

Whatever did Bush do to make the Hurricane Gods in the Heavens so angry they brought down Katrina II on one Presidential Administration? It is historic.

In Bush’s defense, however, being that I am a Republican, I have to say, Secretary Chertoff looks positively dashing in his Gustav role, even friendly enough if he were still a Circuit Judge one might even have ventured fearlessly into his Courthouse for ptotection from those big bad Hurricanes.

This time, Chertoff really has it under control. Looks better than Jeb Bush’s Saturday Hurricane warning speeches with the sign language interpreter, almost better than sending the action-Hero Superman into the center of the Hurricane to stop it single-handedly before it reaches New Orleans — why the Chertoff-Gustav duo even managed to practically stop the Republican Convention!

    Impressive.

    MKDP (997171)

  24. corr: “for ptotection from those big bad Hurricanes” = for protection from those big bad Hurricanes
