Obama Supporters Like Biden for VP

[Guest post by DRJ]

The AP reports Obama’s “staff in Chicago and party activists” like Senator Joe Biden (D-Del) for Obama’s VP because:

… he can address two of Obama’s biggest weaknesses — his lack of experience, especially on world affairs, and his reluctance to go on the attack.”

If his own people think he lacks experience and won’t defend himself or his policies … What, exactly, does Obama bring to the ticket?

  1. I hate to say it but Obama brings what Biden can’t – the definitive minority presence. And in this day and age, that is an enormous edge to have.

Jim Geraghty reminds us of Biden’s charm:

“Around that time, Biden in an interview with the Huffington Post, he assessed Obama and Hillary Clinton: “The more people learn about them (Obama and Hillary) and how they handle the pressure, the more their support will evaporate.”

    Lots of other priceless quotes.

  2. If Obama is sooooooooooooooooooo unwilling to defend himself, then the voters can assume he’s not going to work hard to defend them either.

And there are a lot of people out there who want to harm America.

  3. What, exactly, does Obama bring to the ticket?

    Hopey-Changitude!!

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  4. Coming from that great slave state of Delaware, Biden would be a fantastic choice for the ticket and help Obama out with the redneck vote.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  5. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Biden would be a fantastic pick for VP and if Obama picks him I don’t see how we can possibly win.

  6. It would represent the perfect pairing of a young lightweight with an older lightweight.

  7. Biden can’t stop talking, and Bambi can’t answer a straight question. I don’t think B&B will do the trick, unless they were joined at the lip.

This Biden stuff is nonsense anyway. Bambi will pick Michelle as his running mate, he’s already half way there.

Vote Bambi and the Battle Axe: Get two for the price of one. Why not? It’s a proven winner.

    Ropelight (4a83c9)

  8. I can keep hoping he chooses BIden. Biden cannot keep his mouth shut. I’m sure he will let everybody know why he was chosen. Not right away but eventually.

    Pass the popcorn, please.

  9. I’m sick of hearing people talk about the Joe Biden “plagiarism” scandal.

Biden wasn’t just busted for stealing somebody’s words, research, ideas, philosophy, discovery, or other intellectual achievement.

Biden was busted for stealing somebody else’s life story. Biden falsely claimed character-building events from another person’s life story as his own. That’s dishonest and it speaks volumes about Biden’s sliminess.

The fact that Biden also borrowed the language used by the other person to describe that other person’s life story (i.e., the speech) is comparatively inconsequential.

  11. Are Biden and McCain friends, and do they have any history (good or bad) from their years together in the Senate?

    DRJ (a5243f)

  12. Biden has been quoted as saying he and McCain are friends, yes…

And that was fairly recent, I think in the last year…

Thankflly Dems have never been good at recalling the past accurately.

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  13. The reason why his campaign does not want him to defend himself is because they are deathly afraid that he will be perceived as an ‘angry black man’.

Because the race … is all about race … to them.

  14. ‘Greasy Joe’ will only bring more problems of slime and sleeze. Hussein O has a truck load of that already. Bring him on.

  15. Didn’t Biden just set the world record for self-imploding a presidential campaign – maybe a few hundredths over 38 seconds…

I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, I mean, that’s a storybook, man.

So what’s the over/under on how long before the original gaffe machine makes a bus worthy blunder…

Hope and Change… We contine to hope democrats will change, but face it, they’re stuck on stupid.

    phreshone (095697)

  16. Because the race … is all about race … to them.

Nope. It’s all about removing the most incompetent and corrupt Republicans since the Gilded Age.

It’s the Democrats Dana, 2 old white guys with D’s would garner 90% of the minority vote with no ‘presence’.

BO brings the rockstar persona to the ticket; Biden would bring the laughter (at least for me)

Bambi is black? Really? I never hear this. Does the media know? Maybe the Democrat Party should run on this. You know, “Vote for Bambi. He’s black.”

I’m sure that would be a very successful strategy.

Or even “Vote for Bambi. He’s black, and the Republicans hate blacks.”

They might want to try that one.

    Oh wait. They already are?

  22. Thanks, daleyrocks: you have provided me with a perfect new blog tagline for the week!

(An Obama-Biden ticket) would represent the perfect pairing of a young lightweight with an older lightweight.

  23. Biden is the Democrats’ Dan Quayle, ie., assassination insurance.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  24. Biden would help Obama clinch the critical state of…

    Delaware.

    Amphipolis (fdbc48)

  25. Bambi will pick Michelle as his running mate, he’s already half way there.

This isn’t the first time I’ve heard this. Aside from the Constitutional issue, I seriously doubt America would ever vote for a husband/wife team on a ticket.

    Steverino (1dda08)

  26. Hold your horses, Dana. John at PowerLine posted nearly identical language at exactly the same time as #6. See “The Unbearable Lightness of Biden” posted 8/20/08 @ 9:42pm.

Apparently, great minds do sometimes think alike, and I can’t tell you how much it galls me to acknowledge it (in this case). But, credit where it’s due.

  27. I have heard it suggested that Obama might pick himself as VP. “I am the one I have been waiting for.”

The presidency is not an affirmative action position. Vote McCain.

  28. #11, DRJ, if you click the Jim Geraghty piece I linked to at #1, you would find this in answer to your question:

Biden appearing on The Daily Show, August 2, 2005: “John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off, be well off no matter who…”

    Dana (b4a26c)

  29. #23, Steverino,

Yeah, some wiseass has been pushing that silly notion around here for the last few days. I wouldn’t take it too seriously.

But, if anyone is looking for “Change” it would seem to fit the bill.

    Ropelight (4a83c9)

  30. #23 curious, what ‘constitutional issue’ would be there if he picked Michelle?

    Lord Nazh (ce25e3)

  31. All of a sudden, Biden is now under fire. What are you guys scared about? He has not even been confirmed. God!

    Underfire nothin’!

We WANT this guy to be the VP…

    Scott Jacobs (a1c284)

  34. Well, Obama’s pick for VP. I would rather him not ACTUALLY be the VP, since that would mean Obama was PotUS, but you know what I mean…

    Scott Jacobs (a1c284)

  35. #28, the constitutional issue is that electors from their home state (IL) can’t vote for both presidential and vice-presidential candidates from their own state.

This issue came up in 2000, when Cheney had to change his legal residence from TX to WY in order to run with Bush.

    PaulB (cb7244)

  36. We WANT this guy to be the VP…

  38. Yessir, Lyin’ Joe Biden would make a fine VP. Eight years of the young lightweight and then ? years of the old lightweight? A clean magic Negro
and an older white version with hair plus- both fine with plagiarism.
Wow, the NY Times had a big scoop on Obama yesterday. He was shopping for snacks. NO one could be bothered to ask for a comment about the Ayers/Annenberg story or Obama’s BORN ALIVE LIES.

As an aside I’ve seen few bumper stickers around my neighborhood. One has a Gore/Lieberman next to ones of Kerry/Edwards and an Edwards2008. Another has Edwards for Potus one and there are maybe a dozen Obama ones. Nothing for Hillary or McCain, etc.

    madmax333 (0c6cfc)

  39. Ropelight – I checked the time of the Powerline post since you mentioned it – 9:24. You got it wrong, but their times are also a different time zone than this blog. Why are your knickers still in a knot?

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  40. Why are your knickers still in a knot?

    It’s what he does…

  41. Scott – Ropelight’s not a she? One way or another, after DRJ’s advice seems to have settled down, but still seems overly sensitive.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  42. Has Biden mocked any convenience store owners recently?

    JD (5f0e11)

  43. Just the ones ones by ethnic and racial minorities JD.

  44. #37, daleyrocks,

Sorry, I’m dyslexic, and it gets worse when I don’t sleep well. Please accept my apologies. My attempt at humor apparently was as flawed as my observation. Anyway, my comment was in praise of your insight.

BTW, I changed those knotty knickers after my last bath.

    Ropelight (4a83c9)

  45. Thanks Ropelight. Apology accepted.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  46. Have any of the enlightened in the bag for the magic negro media asked him about his knickers?

Speaking of changing drawers, I recall the great fun some of the criminally insane had comparing skid marks many years ago where I once worked. Better yet is when the doctor asks for a urine, sperm and BM sample and you just hand over the used drawers.

Re: vetting: are we sure Biden has no unrevealed skeletons in HIS closet? Would have been great to have Edwards exposed after he was picked for VP, just to see how the media would handle it/sweep it under rug. Imagine the Anoited one potus and Edwards on the SCOTUS? What would prevent him from remaining for 40 years, love child and all?

bio mom, great line. And probably not far from the truth.

I have heard it suggested that Obama might pick himself as VP. “I am the one I have been waiting for.”

    Vermont Neighbor (a066ed)

  49. DRJ,

I was able to finally get a link to that AP article.
It came from The Daily Astoria in Oregon. I have yet to see who in Obama’s staff actually said “Biden can address two of Obama’s biggest weaknesses” from the AP article. No one was named. I don’t doubt that the sentiment might be out there of course.

The question you posed, framed that way is a difficult question to ask when we actually don’t know which supporters or even if those words were said.

It would be all too easy for me or any newspaper to say that McCain staff members feel that picking Joe Lieberman as running mate can address one of McCain’s biggest weaknesses, McCain needs to pluck some voters from the left.

Based on that frame work, what would McCain bring to the table? Abortion maybe?

    Oiram (983921)

picked for VP, just to see how the media would handle it/sweep it under rug.

Edwards would have rocked the vote. It would have been pure popcorn, breakfast lunch and dinner.

No doubt after baby Frances emerged from the Rielle womb, B-Ho would’ve tossed John under the bus, hit the gear a few times and emerged with glowing halo intact. The media would have lauded his Lincoln-esque decency and manner in a tough situation. His brilliance would have been the cover at least several Newsweeks. “Man Too Good For America Leads The Way.”

    Vermont Neighbor (a066ed)

  51. 47 at least we can count on baracky’s duplicity on abortion. http://www.michellemalkin.com today has links to Obama’s concern for abortionists’ burden. Yes indeedy, it is such a burden to call in another doctor to determine viability of the baby or “HOWEVER WAY YOU WANT TO DESCRIBE IT”….Mr Big Zero’s words and more from years past and yet the in the bag media won’t call him on his present day lies about same.

#48How’s time treating that outstanding racial healing speech for ages when Obama tossed granny under the bus and claimed he could never give up on Wright? Wasn’t that one deemed Lincolnesque also? Another Martin Luther King, Jr? A big asshat phony in my book, hypocritical, self-righhteous, holier than thou cretin who thinks he can engage the worlds’ despots one to one and yet could not even speak up against Wright’s racial hatred in twenty years of attending. Not to mention exposing his kids’ impressionable young minds to that garbage. Wake up, America.

    madmax333 (0c6cfc)

  52. If his own people think he lacks experience and won’t defend himself or his policies

We can distinguish between (a) defending policies; and (b) the hardball politics of attack. It is this latter to which the quote referred.

    jpe (08c1dd)

  53. From a neighborly person in Vermont:

I have heard it suggested that Obama might pick himself as VP. “I am the one I have been waiting for.”

Well, that’s the offer Hillary Clinton made him! 🙂

    Dana R Pico (3e4784)

  54. DRP,

    heh. . .

bio mom gets the credit for that line. But so many interpretations!

    Vermont Neighbor (a066ed)

  55. This is just plain crazy. Bambi’s own staff says he lacks experience? But – but – but – Bambi is so full of what it takes to be President, which is…

…what, exactly? Empty promises? Evasions of tough questions? Hatred for America as it is today? Unfocused ideas on what America should be? The lust for taxes to redistribute wealth?

    steve miller (b589d7)

  56. Ummmmmm, can someone tell me which of his own people thinks he lacks experience? DRJ’s link went to newspaper in Oregon, and I couldn’t find out who said that.

You all would expect this of me if the reverse were happening.

    Oiram (983921)

  57. I just quote what’s in the papers. Like the fact that Bambi stated at Saddleback that he wouldn’t overturn Roe v. Wade.

Oh wait, that wasn’t in the papers. That was someone’s imagination right here on this blog.

    steve miller (b589d7)

  58. Obama is keeping quiet, too, but his staff in Chicago and party activists see Biden as addressing two of Obama’s biggest weaknesses — his lack of experience, especially on world affairs, and his reluctance to attack his opponent.

I know it’s the AP – but they never lie, do they?

    steve miller (b589d7)

  59. Biden is such a bundle of BS that he would be fun to watch trying to avoid saying something stupid. He is fully capable of making some crack about Obama being black. The guy defines loose cannon.

Among other things, he got into trouble at Syracuse law school for cheating. He is the gift that keeps on giving.

    Mike K (f89cb3)

  60. Bambi is black? Who knew?!

Biden would bring an increase in integrity to the ticket.

    steve miller (b589d7)

  61. Cheating in college or on his first wife never prevented Fat Teddy K from numerous terms as senator from Taxachusetts or his status as libreal lion.

Had a good laugh watching the new Anti-Obama ad about his relationship with Ayers. What can they really say when video is in Ayers own more recent words about how he didn’t do enough vis a vis terrorism? http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog
    has a link and comments.

    madmax333 (0c6cfc)

  62. Now when will he announce his choice?

I’m surprised he’s not picking a woman. (I know, with Biden, maybe so, but I’m ignoring the peanut gallery.)

Bambi + a strong, older woman would be very appealing. I don’t think he can nominate a younger woman, because then his admitted inexperience would really come back to haunt him.

    steve miller (b589d7)
