But He Had Good Mechanics On His Three Pointer ….

Posted by WLS:

Reading the transcripts of some of the interviews Obama is giving on his tour with the Washington Nationals around the Globe, conjurs (oops) up in my memory the scene from the movie Troy, where Menelaus, the brother of Agememnon, after battering Prince Paris in their duel over Helen of Troy, watches him crawl away back towards his brother Prince Hector.  Menelaus looks up towards Helen watching the one-sided fight and yells at her “IS THIS WHAT YOU LEFT ME FOR?”

From yesterday:

“What I think can change is the ability of the United States government and a United States president to be actively engaged with the peace process and to be concerned and to recognize the legitimate difficulties that the Palestinian people are experiencing right now and recognize that it is not only in the interest of the Palestinian people that their situation improves – I believe that it is in the interest of the Israeli people…That’s why terrorism is so counterproductive as well as being immoral because it makes I believe the Israelis want to dig in and simply think about their own security regardless of what’s going on beyond their borders.”

Lets deconstruct this banality into its parts:

1.  Past Presidents have not been actively engaged in the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.

2.  Past Presidents have not recognized or been concerned with the legitimate difficulties being experienced by the Palestinian people.

3.  Past Presidents have not recognized it is in the interests of both the Palestinians and Israelis that the situation of the Palestinians be improved.

4.  Terrorism is not only immoral, it is counterproductive.

5.  Terrorism makes Israelis want to dig in their heels and simply think about their own security regardless of what is happening beyond their borders.

Well, there you have it.  Obama’s foundation for solving a problem that reflects hundreds of years of enmity which is rooted in ethnic and religious hatred.  Its all simply a matter of community organizing Chicago-style.

BRILLIANT!!! [to quote a beer commercial]

H/T — Weekly Standard Blog

UPDATE:  I just saw a news brief on another statement made by Obama today in Israel that seems to further clarify and refine his views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict:

“I believe it is in the interests of Israeli’s security to arrive at a lasting peace with the Palestinian groups.”

Is it possible to simply bypass the November election, and move Obama into the WH immediately upon his return from his trip?  With wisdom like this, the world cannot afford to wait until January for the Obamesiah.

  1. Its all simply a matter of community organizing Chicago-style.

Well, gee, let’s see how Obama did as a “community organizer”, shall we?

  3. Someone needed to say it. Thanks ALS for the quote.
I think people should even read it again. Makes perfect sense to me when it isn’t filtered by warmongering biases.

  4. “congers”? “congers”?!

    — Phonetiquette (sic) prevents me saying anything more about that, WLS.

    4. Terrorism is not only immoral, it is counterproductive.

    — That point might be banal but, unfortunately, it’s true that the terrorists don’t see it that way. And why would they when they can successfully trade two dead bodies for five live prisoners?

Votes don’t matter anymore. It’s bloggers v. the media.

  6. Repeating it doesn’t make it sound any smarter, and only emphasizes your “sheeple” status.

Hon, you’re not that bright. Most of the others here are. It’s not based on whether they’re (D) or (R).

  11. The worst con of modern times. Let that sink in.

    Vermont Neighbor (31ccb6)

  12. I’ve read it. It is based on a series of lies.

First, about the need for “the United States government and a United States president to be actively engaged”.

Ever heard of the “Road Map for Peace”? Camp David? Menachem Begin and Arafat and Jimmeh the Rabbit-Killer?

“When the Palestinians love their own children more than they hate the Jews, then we will have peace.” — Golda Meir.

Next: “and to recognize the legitimate difficulties that the Palestinian people are experiencing right now”.

Every bit of the trouble they have is entirely of their own making. If they want peace, all they have to do is stop trying to kill Israelis and peace will start right away. But when their elected government’s own charter says that the fighting will continue until Israel is “pushed into the Sea”, then Israel has the right of self-defense.

The rest of it is yet more nonsense disguised as new ideas.

It was described as “banal”, but I think that word is a little mild. Try another two-syllable word that starts with ‘B’…

    Drumwaster (5ccf59)

  13. Your right dear, I’m not that bright. I’ll admit it. But I do know when the middle class is being attacked.

    Oiram (983921)

  14. Oiram, I think the problem that a lot of us have with the quote you provided in comment 3 is that if you take it at face value you really would have to conclude that Obama truly believes that no administration — not even the Clinton Administration — has tried hard enough to bring about Mideast peace. It is this tempting yet simpleminded idea that if we Americans just listen more carefully or show more empathy we will be able to bridge the differences between Israel and the Palestinians, and that he, Obama, is just the man to do it. Lots of other bloggers and columnists have commented on the overwhelming narcissism of Obama, and this is the perfect example of it. It’s a Jimmy Carter redux, and we don’t have the luxury of affording that in this day and age.

    JVW (6a7c34)

  15. But I do know when the middle class is being attacked.

You mean like when Congress wants to put a 50-cent-per-gallon tax on every gallon of gasoline? Or eliminating the previous tax cuts that erased the tax burden for almost eight million families? Or reinstating the death tax on the families of small business owners?

Or is that not what you consider “an attack”?

    Drumwaster (5ccf59)

  16. Let it sink in.

“Lots of other bloggers and columnists have commented on the overwhelming narcissism of Obama, and this is the perfect example of it. It’s a Jimmy Carter redux, and we don’t have the luxury of affording that in this day and age.”

  18. O.k. guys, I’ve got a life to lead beyond Paternico. Plus shouldn’t you guys read the news today?

Thank you all for preaching to the choir here at Paternico……….well the choir + 1 (that’s me)

Have a good life, see you in a bit.

The insults don’t suit you either.

    Oiram (983921)

  19. Reminds of the beauty pageant interviews when, year after year, many of the girls wanted “World Peace.”

Geez, who doesn’t. I wonder it they think they thought of it first.

    Perfect Sense (9d1b08)

  20. An explanation of WLS’s explanation, to assist Oiram:

    1. Past Presidents have not been actively engaged in the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.
    — Bill Clinton didn’t try? President Bush, who issued a written proposal for a path to Palestinian statehood, hasn’t been actively engaged?

    2. Past Presidents have not recognized or been concerned with the legitimate difficulties being experienced by the Palestinian people.
    — Jimmy Carter wrote a book about those difficulties! And who was it that called for fair elections to choose a Palestinian government?

    3. Past Presidents have not recognized it is in the interests of both the Palestinians and Israelis that the situation of the Palestinians be improved.
    — The arrogance of this assertion! And WLS isn’t just putting words in Obama’s mouth; that is exactly what he meant.

    4. Terrorism is not only immoral, it is counterproductive.
    — A statement of the obvious, and it does come off as patronizing. However, as I noted, the Palestinian terrorists see it as meaningless.

    5. Terrorism makes Israelis want to dig in their heels and simply think about their own security regardless of what is happening beyond their borders
    — Another statement of the obvious; one bright spot is that it might indicate that he knows which side needs to make more concessions.

“They walk around mooning all the time, making goo-goo eyes… my God, if one of them farts, the other thinks it’s Guy Lombardo!” — Jack Burroughs (Alan Alda), from “The Four Seasons” (1981)

  21. Obamna’s the one who, when asked about “the perfect date”, would respond, “April 15th”.

  26. I can’t believe Obama thinks that the Israelis have no difficulties that it ‘s jost the palestines.

  27. WLS –
Great. Now everyone will wonder what the hell is wrong with me 😉

Obama: “I believe it is in the interests of Israeli’s security to arrive at a lasting peace with the Palestinian groups.”

    — This reminds me of that commercial where the voice-over announcer says, “Should men and women over 50 take the same multivitamin?”, and then a man in his 50’s looks into the camera and says, “I don’t think so”; as if there are any differing opinions on the issue. Stating the obvious for fun and profit. Everybody sing:
Let there be peace on earth
    And let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth,
The peace that was meant to be.

    With God as our Father
    Brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother
    In perfect harmony.

    Let peace begin with me,
    Let this be the moment now;
    With every step I take,
Let this be my solemn vow:

To take each moment and live each moment
    In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.

    — That should be his inauguration music.

    Icy Truth (6ddfc7)

  28. Reminds me of Miss South Carolina – Well, um, I believe that US Americans, in the Iraq and South Africa, need maps.

    JD (75f5c3)

  29. Sorry. I meant “coronation music”.

    Icy Truth (6ddfc7)

  30. “BRILLIANT!!! [to quote a beer commercial]”

Previous to the beer commercial there was a Monty Python sketch in which an assistant director, ( played by John Cleese) of a bad movie ( Michael Palin played the director).Lenny of the North or some such. would literally scream “brilliant” at every impoverished idea the director presented. Like painting the beach white for the snow etc. The analogy of course is the fawning of the dumb 3 networks over a guy that doesn’t know what committee he is on and how many states are in the union

    Largin Testin (0382e0)

  31. ^ Yes, coronation music. And Aunt Esther can wear her finest coat from the Gap. She’s so much one of us.

  33. “Scott of the Antarctic”

    Icy Truth (6ddfc7)

  34. That kinda looked like it was done on an Etch-A-Sketch (TM). By a blind man. Relying on the verbal directions given by an eight-year-old kid with ADHD on a sugar and caffeine high.

With the punchline added by Ayatollah Khomeini…

But hey, keep up the good wor… oh, hell, I can’t even type it.

    Drumwaster (5ccf59)

  35. I think the Monty Python skit you remember is “Scott of the Antarctic” where they paint the beach white… there is a scene in there where Scott is supposed to fight a lion but they realize there are no lions in the Antarctic so they change the movie title to “Scott of the Sahara”.

    Reshape the narrative.

    Change you can believe in.

  36. Is it possible to simply bypass the November election, and move Obama into the WH immediately upon his return from his trip? With wisdom like this, the world cannot afford to wait until January for the Obamesiah.

You say this as a joke, but I think a lot of Obama’s followers seriously believe this to be true. They think the world’s problems can all be solved if the right man is just given enough power to implement his will, and conservatives only fail to solve these problems because they are unfeeling cretins.

    Spot on!

I’m waiting for Him to join the ranks of single named individuals. After all, He is The One. The Lightworker. The Saviour.
I expect an announcement sometime after He finishes His Magical Mystery Tour.
