Obama Memorial Day Event Overflowing, With Many Memorial Day Honorees In Attendance

“On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.”

Ok, so this is bouncing around the internet already.  But I just found it to be reinforcing of my view that Obama isn’t really that smart, and is prone to making unforced gaffes simply because he tries to speak to things about which he has only a shallow understanding.

I think the fall is actually going to be an entertaining time for the GOP and conservatives.  McCain has spent 30 years in Washington speaking off-the-cuff.  Obama has never been under the microscope even once.

But his days in the echo-chamber are rapidly approaching a close.  Dims should be concerned about the thoughts expressed in this article in TNR  today.

  1. A right winger I know complaints that Obama is the left Bush — dumb but likeable.

    stef (b022b7)

  2. mccain has spent 30 years in washington speaking off-the-cuff, and when he gets sunnis and shiites mixed up and joe lieberman has to correct him, it’s a laugh riot. when he expresses a willingness to stay in iraq for 100 years, swing voters question his fitness and sanity.

    assistant devil's advocate (a10521)

  3. If McCain was the only MC who can’t keep the Sunni’s and Shiite’s straight, I would be concerned. But, when I heard the incoming House Cmte on Intelligence Chairman (Reyes, D-TX, IIRC) not have a clue, I knew that the problem was more widespread than just a couple members.
Perhaps they would be more attentive if they had some earmarks going that way (with the reciprocal campaign donations really grabbing their attention).

    Another Drew (8018ee)

  4. Mixing up Sunni and Shia is simply transposing names of groups while giving a detailed response to a serious question.

Not knowing that Memorial Day honors those who have died in defense of their country is a sign of shallowless.

    WLS (68fd1f)

  5. Well, he is from Chicago… Maybe he’s just acknowledging some of his supporters, those who will vote for him?

    Scott Jacobs (fa5e57)

  6. ADA, Mccain clearly understood the difference between the Shia and Sunni Muslims. He may have transposed them, but he quickly corrected himself.

And that’s pretty much the best you’ve got on him, proving that Mccain is an excellent speaker.

Mccain is a big reason why Iraq is doing well… his understanding of war, or this war, and of the world, is simply so much better than Obamas that anyone claiming otherwise is probably the most bitter hack imaginable.

  7. Obama sees dead people!!!

    Be very afraid . . .

  8. Not knowing that Memorial Day honors those who have died in defense of their country is a sign of shallowless.

Is this anything more than manufactured outrage? Read the rest of his remarks, and it’s clear he knows exactly what Memorial Day memorializes:

I am the father of two young girls, and I cannot imagine what it is to lose a child. My heart breaks for the families who’ve lost a loved one.

I know that our sadness today is mixed with pride; that those we’ve lost will be remembered by a grateful nation; and that our presence here today is only possible because your loved ones, America’s patriots, were willing to give their lives to defend our nation.

I know that while we may come from different places, cherish different traditions, and have different political beliefs, we all – every one of us – hold in reverence those who’ve given this country the full measure of their devotion.

Many of those we honor today were so young when they were killed.

And when we lose them – in a final act of selflessness and service – we know that they died so that their brothers and sisters, so that our nation, might live.

&c. &c. &c. He’s speaking before a gathering of veterans and the families of veterans, and he gestures to those in the crowd who have served. If this is the sort of “issue” he’ll have to face in the months to come, it 1) speaks very poorly of the general tenor of political coverage, and 2) signals desperation on the part of McCain supporters.

    SEK (bd295a)

  9. Its not desperation. Its the standard fare. Ah, the superior blogsphere who will replace the idiots of the MSM!

    stef (7ca4a3)

  10. It might seem pointless compared to the other gaffe, but there is no “unbroken line” of fallen heroes. It is the living who form the unbroken line.

  11. Don’t get mad, Scott. We’re saving them up for the first cute little book of Obamaisms. We’re going to call them Barry Dingles.

  13. “… signals desperation on the part of McCain supporters”

Uh huh. When Obama starts showing up at press conferences wearing his underwear on his head, I’m really going to feel desperate.

    Glen Wishard (02562c)

  14. The WaPo is getting desperate too, as Obama’s whoppers become “the stuff of legend”. I personally wouldn’t use it to stuff a legend, though.

    Glen Wishard (02562c)

  15. Did any of you check out the TNR link?

It’s like Oz. An alternate universe, utterly free of facts and reason.

    Steve Levy (e8228e)

  16. C’mon, now, Steve. Oz makes sense. You mean San Francisco.

    Dan Collins (4dc2da)

  17. Missed It #6,

Here’s the video to go with your comment.

Do any of you remember Barack Oh-No-No-No-I-Don’t-Snort-It-No-More Obama from Condoleeza Rice’s confirmation hearings? He was so inanely inarticulate, it was embarassing.

    nk (a415e7)

  18. That’s what happens when an empty suit goes off card…

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  19. He should take up the drums.

    Dan Collins (4dc2da)

  20. You people are just mean!!!

    [/sarcasm]

But actually, Obama has a core group of voters who just don’t care. Either they are African-American, or they are entitlement-seeking, or they are simply naive (e.g. “Far out, a black President!”). None of these groups care one whit about how smart Obama is, what he says, nor how wise his policies.

There are far more MTV voters than C-SPAN voters.

    Kevin Murphy (805c5b)

  21. If this is the sort of “issue” he’ll have to face in the months to come, it 1) speaks very poorly of the general tenor of political coverage, and 2) signals desperation on the part of McCain supporters.

George Allen will be thrilled to hear this.

    Pablo (99243e)

  22. “George Allen will be thrilled to hear this.”

And so will the noose in his office!

    stef (6084da)

  23. We’re saving them up for the first cute little book of Obamaisms.

Dan, I’ll consider the playing field level when Obama addresses education policy by asking “Is our children learning?” Short of that, I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt to the guy who writes books, as opposed to the one who says he reads them, but can’t recall what they were about, except, you know, for the Civil War.

Obama has a core group of voters who just don’t care.

Actually, Obama has a core group of voters who passionately care, and think he’s the best chance they’ve got to have someone in office who’ll listen to their concerns. It’s fun, though, to see election season memes in their infancy. We should take pictures. “Look! There it is, struggling to crawl!” “Here now, see? It’s walking on its own!” “Check it out! It’s on TV! Foxnews is reporting it!”

    SEK (bd295a)

  24. (Also, I’d still love to see someone prove Obama doesn’t know the purpose of Memorial Day without, you know, excluding everything but the first sentence of his talk. “Shallow”? Indeed!)

    SEK (bd295a)

  25. Seeing as Dan Quayle was defined for all eternity by a spelling error, it is strange that more and worse don’t define Obama.
Wait. Guess that party. Nope. It’s not strange.

And, fair or not, (see Quayle), it will be an issue of some weight in the campaign (see Quayle).

    Richard Aubrey (164788)

  26. Actually, Obama has a core group of voters who passionately care, and think he’s the best chance they’ve got to have someone in office who’ll listen to their concerns.

    They care deeply, sure…

But they have no idea how to DO anything. Wave a little Hpoe-o Change-o infront of them, and it’s like kids following the Pied Piper…

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  27. Wait a minute, Scott. Are you saying fair has anything to do with it? Because I got a yokel who’s being accused of being a racist for vending t-shirts representing Obama as Curious George. And that kind of dehumanization? It’s only offensive from the racial angle, because God knows, GWB is as chimpy as they come.

    I’m sorry, but f*** that s***.

    Dan Collins (4dc2da)

  28. heh… I wanna buy one of those shirts…

  31. Scott

Barry’s gaffes would be trivial, I’ll admit, save that some of them demonstrate an abysmal grasp of American history.

JFK did NOT meet with Nikita on the “eve of nuclear war.” Indeed the Vienna conference was not only over a year ahead of the Cuban missle crisis, but JFK admitted himself that Nikita beat him up pretty bad in Vienna. It can be successfully argued that JFK’s immaturity and fecklessness at that meeting went a long way into emboldening Kruschev into putting the missles in Cuba in the first place.

    That is only one example.

Barry may be well acquainted with Black Liberation theology and Chicago machine politics… American political history, not so much.

a.d.d., McCain’s comment reflected peacekeeping forces, not troops.

  35. Obama knows little to nothing about America. About Islam, Indonesia, madrassas (he says the Islamic Call to Prayer is the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard) he knows more.

About WWII, appeasement, America’s desire to have foreigner’s OK on how much we eat, drive, or set our AC at, not so much.

In addition, Obama is not very smart, does not know how to do anything to ordinary people except pander to the dislike of ordinary people by Blacks and white yuppies. Obama’s IQ is likely 100, or perhaps a bit less. When pressed to speak extemporaneously, he is nothing but “uhhs” and “ahhs” and can say little that is coherent. He needs a teleprompter and a canned speech to seem like he has an IQ over 100. [As a Black, Affirmative Action admit he probably was simply passed through Harvard Law — that he did not write a single article there as Editor is telling. He probably was not smart enough to do so.]

Obama is furthermore, not interested in America or Americans. He needs a complex, caste system of victimology appropriate to San Francisco Billionaire mansions or Trinity United: “women vets have more post-traumatic stress because they’re all raped by their male comrades.”

    Jim Rockford (e09923)

  36. I think the most damaging thing for Obama is not how serious the error was, but the addition of another piece to the pile of evidence that he just says pretty things rather than substantive things. This is going to catch up with him.

    Ken from Camarillo (aa2192)

  37. As we all fully realize, on the Dem side the campaign started very early this cycle and has stayed very late.

Add to that the Republican debates had more substance in any one than the 20 plus joint press conferences on the left combined.

If you sit back and review the entire Democrat race so far the vast majority of the coverage has been about who said something about a real non issue to the election be it a candidate themself or a member of their campaign.

All we have seen is the camps getting tuff on fluff. Both have avoided the actual issues of the day with a passion.

I am beginning to believe the errors are somewhat intentional. The old shiny toy to achieve the end of any press is good press, to keep their name in front of the voters.

We have two on the left of little experience or record and they wish to avoid the actual issues at all cost.

They have become like the one armed magician, they are only working the one for distracting the eye and don’t have another available to deliver the results of the trick.

  38. But I just found it to be reinforcing of my view that Obama isn’t really that smart, and is prone to making unforced gaffes simply because he tries to speak to things about which he has only a shallow understanding.

If Obama isn’t smart, what does that make George Bush?

Someone else mentioned this already, but it is rather pathetic, and speaks to the desperation of the Republican party, that ‘gaffes’ are now being used as an argument, by Bush-electing Republicans, of all people, against Obama. George Bush and his endless string of immensely stupid and often times insulting ‘gaffes’ aren’t even in the rear-view mirror yet, and you’ve got the balls to call Obama stupid? Are we supposed to take that seriously, given not only how obviously untrue it is, but also considering the source?

Also, if someone could please elaborate on whatever shallowness of understanding that WLS is referring to, I would love to see that. He doesn’t understand what, exactly? Memorial Day? The military in general? Again, it’s the height of irony to hear all of this from a Republican, whose party has done more to damage the military than some shoddily constructed, odious caricature of Obama could ever hope to do.

  39. A right winger coming from stef … Good one. Moby.

It makes President Bush 100 times the man you could ever dream of being, Levi.

Actually, his campaign later released an announcement about Memorial Day being about honoring veterans and that is why he said what he said. That shows how little his people understand the history. Memorial Day was originally named “Decoration Day” and the purpose was to decorate the graves of veterans. It was not a day “to honor veterans” but to honor the dead. That is why his comment was a gaffe and his campaign people STILL don’t understand that.

I know. It’s only history and all that old stuff but some people actually care.

Also, it might be of interest that the gaffe is already down the memory hole. That phrase is omitted from the speech on the web site.

  44. The thing that’s always funny about Levi is his complete lack of self-awareness of what a putrid, malodorous personality he possesses. If someone’s utterly miserable and hatefully juvenile personality oozes through the typewritten word as much as his does, can you imagine spending five minutes in the actual presence of such a foul-tempered little child like Levi? His every word just reeks of the attention starved, self-absorbed adolescent. You find yourself shielding your eyes and ears trying to match a face and voice to the slobbering tripe that gets slapped onto the screen and then recoiling in horror when an image of the real person comes to mind.

I’d like to see you try to back that up. I know Obama said this meaningless thing you’re all wired up about, that he’s mixed up some cities, and he said there were 57 states, is there one I’m missing? You want to start comparing three things to 8 years (and hundreds of hours of YouTube video) of George Bush’s ‘gaffes?’

  70. I think it is interesting how the Phils and Levis of the world seem to think that we all act in lock-step. Do they ever actually read? We routinely disagree, sometimes not very nicely, about a host of issues.

    JD (75f5c3)

  71. Yeah, I know. Yesterday’s discussion about the wisdom of throwing away one’s vote to punish McCain was a real lovefest.

    Xrlq (b71926)

  72. Levi — I haven’t looked around for the explanation yet, but maybe you can tell everyone here why it is that Obama has twice now said his grandfather/great uncle (he used one each time) was among the first US soldiers to liberate Auschwitz?

Anyone with a passing familiarity with the events of WWII knows that Auschwitz was in Poland, and Poland didn’t end up behind the Iron Curtain because Patton got there first.

Obama’s flaw in extemporaneous speaking is his weakness for embellishment. Combine that weakness with a lack of true historical understanding, and you get stuff like this.

You haven’t seen me criticize the “57” state comment because that was clearly the result of being tired — it was clear he meant “47” as he said that the campaign had travelled to all but one state in the continental US, with his handlers not yet having found a way to get him to Alaska and Hawaii. I put that confused comment right up there with McCain interchanging Shia and Sunni.

But his comment about Auschwitz simply shows a lack of historical understanding. He could have simply said “My uncle was one of the first US soldiers to liberate one of the Nazi concentration camps in Germany”. But he didn’t — he had to embellish the story by saying the camp was Auschwitz. It may the story sound more impressive — but now it makes him look less so.

This weakness in extemporaneous speaking — the inability to avoid talking about that which he does not have a good grasp — is going to continue to haunt him. But he has this weakness because he’s never been under the spotlight before. He is now showing all the signs of a guy who has never run a contested campaign where he must confront fundamental disagreements with the ideas and policies he puts forth.

I expect we will now see a summer full of telepromter speeches because he’s not that good off-the-cuff. Otherwise he’ll be a laughing stock by September.

    WLS (68fd1f)

  73. Of course they were there. They were dying to get in!

    Viktor (6c107f)

  74. We routinely disagree, sometimes not very nicely, about a host of issues.

  75. Xrlq,

It seems like it should have been a joke, but that was really Levi.

    Help, help, I’m being repressed!

    Patterico (831ea5)

  76. Interesting part is that if you go to Obama’s website where a transcript of the speech is, the words “and I see many of them in the audience here today” have been left out of it.

Revisionist? I’ve not watched the video to see if it was edited from that also.

    Susan (df4fb4)

  77. Phil – Say that again. When you talk about masturbation I get a tingle up my leg. I started to get hard.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  78. You haven’t seen me criticize the “57″ state comment because that was clearly the result of being tired — it was clear he meant “47″ as he said that the campaign had travelled to all but one state in the continental US, with his handlers not yet having found a way to get him to Alaska and Hawaii.

Let me just say before I dissect these two paragraphs that if you would have said that in my physical presence, I would have laughed in your face. George Bush people pretending they’re qualified and authoritative judges on extemporaneous speaking just tickles my funny bone.

Now, let’s just consider the only interesting thing you’ve said here, that McCain’s conflation of Sunni and Shia is on par with Obama’s 57 states miscue, that is that they are insignificant public speaking blunders, but Obama’s Auschwitz comment reflects something meaningful, identified by you as a ‘lack of historical understanding.’

This is absurd. McCain made his ‘mistake’ over and over again, which was and still is a widely-used Republican deception. Republicans have been confusing the people we’re fighting in Iraq since the beginning, they’ve continually applied vague, catch-all buzzwords, like ‘Al-Qaeda’ or simply ‘the terrorists,’ to describe what is in reality a very convoluted and diverse web of parties and motivations. McCain said Iran was training Al-Qaeda because McCain thinks we’re fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which isn’t true now and wasn’t true in the past, but is something that has been repeated throughout the Republican propaganda apparatus for years.

The fact that McCain is repeating these discredited talking points, even if it’s accidental, is infinitely more important and insightful than the dumb stuff Obama said that you’re pretending to be upset about. This is a contemporary issue McCain is talking about, an area in which he claims to be an expert with years of experience and which many Republicans insist is one of the biggest threats we’ve ever faced, and he needs old man Lieberman back there correcting him about the basic definitions? I mean that would be like FDR saying that we fought the Japanese at Normandy, or that the Nazis attacked Pearl Harbor. How can you get something so glaringly wrong, over and over again, and walk around pretending to be the guy that knows it all?

Meanwhile, we have Obama mixing up states and concentration camps. You’re trying to tell me that because Obama doesn’t seem to know that the Soviets liberated Auschwitz, that reflects something about his foreign policy credibility? And even more astoundingly, you’re telling me that McCain recycling misinformed Bush propaganda reflects nothing about his? Being a WWII trivia buff is a more important indicator of one’s foreign policy ability than getting the basic facts right about things that are happening now?

    Levi (76ef55)

  79. “if you would have said that in my physical presence, I would have laughed in your face.”

Levi, if you had said most of what you have ever said on this board in the “physical presence” of many of the people on this board, you would be a grease-spot on the pavement, you little cyber-f*ck.

Count your blessings. You live in a free country, and you get to be a cyber-d*ckhead, read and despised by millions. What a world, live it and love it.

    driver (faae10)

  80. Levi, if you had said most of what you have ever said on this board in the “physical presence” of many of the people on this board, you would be a grease-spot on the pavement, you little cyber-f*ck.

    Lol!

    I bet, buddy. I bet.

    Levi (76ef55)

  81. George Bush people pretending they’re qualified

What is a George Bush person? Aside from the various George Bushes, that is.

    Pablo (99243e)

  82. *in hushed, golf-announcer/Wildlife TV host voice*

Notice how the Leftist specimen “Tinyus Dancerous” attempts to use large words to convice his betters that he is not, in fact, a waste of flesh…

McCain said Iran was training Al-Qaeda because McCain thinks we’re fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which isn’t true now and wasn’t true in the past, but is something that has been repeated throughout the Republican propaganda apparatus for years

That’s right, Teddy K. Just keep ignoring those facts. Don’t let those darned things slow you down now. You just keep on truckin’…

The fact that McCain is repeating these discredited talking points, even if it’s accidental, is infinitely more important and insightful than the dumb stuff Obama said that you’re pretending to be upset about.

You really don’t watch the news, except for Olberman, do you… I mean, you can’t possibly…

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  83. “You’re trying to tell me that because Obama doesn’t seem to know that the Soviets liberated Auschwitz, that reflects something about his foreign policy credibility?”
    Answer to question posed: Yes
Answer to question unposed: Yes, you still are an insufferable, monotonous, pretentious, uncouth, juvenile cock to the infinity degree.

    Jack Klompus (b796b4)

  84. Hey, Mr. Sunny…

Don’t forget to clean up when you’re done.

    Paul (de3f43)

  85. That Levi is the kindest smartest most rational thinker in these here parts. You would be well served to listen to him.

    Not Levi, or Phil (5f0e11)

  86. You should also ignore all the rest of the exaggerations, lies, and gaffes Baracky has dropped on the campaign trail. Meet with Iran without conditions. Bitter religious gun lovers. Arabic interpreters needed in Afghanistan. Wright was my mentor before I threw him under the back of the bus. Ayers. Typical white person. And that only scratches the surface of the hopiness changiness drivel he spews.

    Not Levi, or Phil (5f0e11)

  87. Bitter religious gun lovers.

    Xenophobic… Don’t forget we dislike outsiders too…

    Scott Jacobs (d3a6ec)

  88. “The Bitter Clingers”….if you’re ever in Philly and see a rock band by that name, I’ll be the one with the red Stratocaster. Buy me a drink after the show.

    driver (faae10)

  89. The McCain supposed gaffe was, in fact, an accurate statement that Iran was supporting Sunni terrorists. Those hwo don’t know jumped on it as though he was confusing the two. He should not have allowed Lieberman to “correct” him. He was right the first time.

I might add that I had to go through three pages of left-wing blogs on Google to get to the correct story. It is a myth, but a widely repeated one.

Second, Obama’s great uncle was not in any army unit that can be found in the records. There was someone by that name in the navy. Maybe he liberated Buchenwald by sailing up the Danube.

I think Obama is approaching Tuzla territory.

    Mike K (2cf494)

  90. driver – you ever get gigs at Johnny Brendas?

    Jack Klompus (b796b4)

  91. Agree with Mike K. Obama is going to be just as “un-inevitable” as Hillary, come this fall. There is simply no there, there, and “the folks” aren’t going to buy into him.

    driver (faae10)

  92. driver – you ever get gigs at Johnny Brendas?

Whoa…you know your local stuff, Jack.

No, JB’s is a very tough place to get a gig, even when you are an experienced old-time seasoned citizen like me. But you can often find me hanging at the bar on Friday afternoons with the other rock’n’roll geezers, so the offer to let you buy me a drink still stands.

    driver (faae10)

  93. That’s cool. I remember seeing Jesus Lizard at the Khyber Pass and even back to the Chestnut Cabaret and Revival, so I can relate to the age thing! I actually live in Austin now and spend my free time cursing on libertarian/conservative leaning sites of legal and political interest. Ha.

    Jack Klompus (b796b4)

  94. Obama has a core group of voters who passionately care

Reminds me of a scene from the Rodney Dangerfield movie Back To School. Dangerfield, talking about his borderline psycho history teacher says, “Oh yeah, this guy really cares! About what, I have no idea.”

    Steverino (4be839)

  95. Well Jack,
I know those places like my own living room.

Johnny Brenda’s is different, because that whole Fishtown scene up there is like South Street was 25 years ago. So many of my old South Street buddies live up there now, and hang at JB’s or at the M Room. The ones who aren’t dead and are stil players are hangin’ up there.

Yes, I feel old. But you would not believe who you can run into on a Saturday night up there. Really fun stuff.

    driver (faae10)

  96. “You’re trying to tell me that because Obama doesn’t seem to know that the Soviets liberated Auschwitz, that reflects something about his foreign policy credibility?”
    Answer to question posed: Yes

Please, can you come up with some sort of hypothetical foreign policy situation where the optimum outcome for America could only be attained by the President knowing which particular army of the Allied Forces liberated Auschwitz more than 60 years ago?

You must realize that by offering such a ridiculous answer to a completely rhetorical question, you should probably try to come up with something a little more convincing than a one-word answer. You expect me to believe you spent any time thinking about this if all you can offer is ‘Yes?’

    Levi (76ef55)

  97. So Levi, in the process of trying to pander to jewish voters, are you trying to say that it’s not important for Obama to remember either which country’s armed forces his relative fought for or which slave labor/concentration camp he was on hand for the liberation of or heard the tales of, depending on which version of the family legend Obama tells, the 2002 version or the 2008 version. You decide Levi, after all, Obama can’t through his family under a bus can he? Scratch that last question. Yes he can and he did.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  98. So I’m not really sure how knowing the name of the Prime Minister of Ireland is a decisive reason to vote for or against a President – but that was used before.

If Barry wants the brass ring, he has to be a little more willing to educate himself on American history.

As Dennis Miller said so eloquently, I don’t care about the color of his skin, but I do care about how thin it seems to be.

    steve miller (e5787a)

  99. Remember, Baracky was conceived due to being caught up in the emotion of the Selma march, 4 years before it happened.

    JD (75f5c3)

  100. My one word answer to you Levi is one that reflects my complete and utter dismissal of you as anyone worthy of engaging in anything remotely resembling civil interaction. I guess you missed the second answer. Lest you forget, it bears repeating what most people here think, which is that you are an insufferable prick. Your malignant, repulsive presence is akin to a herpes outbreak.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  101. And I don’t “expect you to believe” anything, but I do expect you to realize what an inconsequential tumor you are on the ass of humanity.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  102. That, sir, is an insult to ass-tumors every where…

    Scott Jacobs (fa5e57)

  103. Remember, Baracky was conceived due to being caught up in the emotion of the Selma march, 4 years before it happened.

JD – I believe the correct term for that in the liberal lexicon is “preconception” as opposed to “deferred conception,” so technically, under the current liberal rules and definitions Obammy wasn’t lying. There’s always a lot of liberal fucking going on at big events, the fuckers.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  104. daleyrocks – To me, aggrandizing ones own birth is truly remarkable, though we already know it will get no coverage in the MSM.

    JD (75f5c3)

  105. JD – Everything about the Obama’s is aggrandized, so what else is new. They are every American, in their own minds, but larger and more important and bitter. Their struggles to get admitted to Ivy League colleges under affirmative action programs are just like every other American, the difficulty they have with finding adequate day care, putting fresh fruit on the table for the kids and paying off student loans while making $4 million per year are the same struggles you and I have, but their’s are more important. They sit and listen to a racist preacher spew hate speech every weekend while I pursue my spirituality in a different manner. My life feels empty and small compared to that of the Obamas. They should be aggrandized and exposed every chance the media gets.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  106. Did you know he was born on an island, therefore he has a unique understanding of Puerto Rican issues?

And dammit, it if freaking hard to keep fresh fruit around the house. Damn hard, I tell you.

    JD (75f5c3)

  107. If Barry wants the brass ring, he has to be a little more willing to educate himself on American history.

Wait a minute, knowing that the Soviets liberated Auschwitz is something you would consider basic American history knowledge?

I know a lot about World War II, but I don’t know who liberated which concentration camps. That’s significant? That makes me a moron?

    Levi (76ef55)

  108. The balancing act of “we’re like everyone so we understand” and “we’re more enlightened so you don’t understand what’s best for you” must get dizzying at times. That anyone thinks the Obamas are anything refreshing or special is quite comical. His personna can be pretty much found among any Ivy Leaguer who sees the light of progressive greatness and embraces it with the obnoxious fervor of the convert.
I went to U of Penn with future MoveOn.org executive director Peter Schurman and he was the perfect example of this tired lame posturing. He arrived at Penn wearing blue blazers with crests on them, dropped acid, and like Homer Simpson’s mom seeing Joe Namath’s sideburns adopted every progressive cause in the book and loudly proclaimed his place at the head of every march and rally thereafter. Didn’t really play well with most of his peers who saw through his poseur act from a mile away. Barack just brings back nightmares of having to deal with the anointed class who think that the world stage is just their God-given playground of destiny. They show how thin skinned they are when they actually get challenged on viewpoints that get a pat on the head in a lecture hall in Cambridge but don’t really cut it among people who deal with real work-a-day issues and haven’t learned clever turns of phrase that substitute for real knowledge of history, facts, and issues.
Oh yeah and Levi you’re still a turd.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  109. Many things combine to make you not just a moron but a complete and utter sniveling douchebag, twat, idiot, jackass, and every assorted crude insult that you so richly deserve.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

Sure, whatever pal. I’d be a lot more insulted by your insults and might actually pay some attention to them if you could, you know, demonstrate some argumentative ability. Whatever you have to say about me, at least I put up my side, at least I stand up for myself. You just pretend like you’re above it all. You think that impresses anyone? You think we need yet another person around here that only ever posts to call me names?

    Levi (76ef55)

  111. I’m not above “it all” nor do I seek to “impress”. I only wish to remind you on a regular basis what a complete utter jackass you are. Take the insults anyway you wish, prick. “We”? “We”? Haha that’s a laugh. Like you’re accepted in some elite club looking out? Do you read what people here have to say to you? You’re a fucking joke. People have no respect for your point of view and treat you with complete contempt. You’re a sniveling obnoxious asshole beyond compare who offers occasional comic relief. The pleasure in calling a worthless turd like you names is a true delight in which many here indulge. So keep showing up, cockwad.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  112. Barack just brings back nightmares of having to deal with the anointed class who think that the world stage is just their God-given playground of destiny.

This is crazy, coming from a Bush person. Bush has demonstrated that he has no respect for anyone or anything, not the military, not the tax-payer, not the foreigner, or the Constitution, or basic human rights, or the rule of law, nothing. He’s an adolescent thrill-seeker that thought being President would be a real easy gig that would make everyone alive like him and everyone to be born revere him. His entire focus has been on repeatedly slamming the military against a wall, like it was some meaningless toy that his rich daddy bought him, and throwing pathetic little tantrums every time someone tried to correct him.

Every shred of credibility, every American value and principle, our very role as leaders of the free world has been discarded by this moron you people voted for so he can kill people in the desert, to look ‘tough.’ Nothing guides him but stubbornness and blind faith, and he’s only in it for himself. Try looking in a mirror before you start talking about ‘playgrounds of destiny.’

Do you speak for these real, work-a-day people and their issues? Are these the people that vote because of flag pins and pastors and because they got called ‘bitter?’

    Levi (76ef55)

  113. I’m not above “it all” nor do I seek to “impress”. I only wish to remind you on a regular basis what a complete utter jackass you are. Take the insults anyway you wish, prick. “We”? “We”? Blah blah blah. Why don’t you save your breath and just admit, “I am scared of debating you, Levi.”

    Levi (76ef55)

  114. if you could, you know, demonstrate some argumentative ability. Whatever you have to say about me, at least I put up my side, at least I stand up for myself

Levi – You are full of shit. You spew standard leftist talking points that have been discredited time and again but you don’t have the intelligence to realize it. You never back up your assertions with facts or links and when pressed for facts you retreat into ad hominem attacks or go into hiding. You sonny, have no life experience or education to give you enough credibility worth engaging and your continued conduct here, the argument by discredited assertion, reemphasizes that every day. It’s all a question of mind of matter, Levi. I don’t mind you, except for your perseveration, because you just don’t matter.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  115. Mind over matter.

Minds are a terrible thing to waste, too bad Levi doesn’t even have one to waste.

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  116. First of all, dickhead, I’m not a “Bush person” whatever the fuck that is. What’s to debate with adolescent tantrums like “Bush has demonstrated that he has no respect for anyone or anything, not the military, not the tax-payer, not the foreigner, or the Constitution, or basic human rights, or the rule of law, nothing.” Use much hyperbole, asshole? Oh that’s right, that’s your style. Cram as much overbearing loudmouthed over-the-top rhetoric that it would take forever and a day to waste dissected your juvenile rants like “His entire focus has been on repeatedly slamming the military against a wall.” What’s the point?
Try looking in the mirror at what? Fuck you, you fucking adolescent piece of shit. And working? I guarantee I’ve worked harder and at more jobs to earn what I have than you ever will in your fucking life you spoiled little worthless bitch. Scared to debate you? You think anything you say or do scares anyone? Again, fuck you, you pathetic little sack of shit. Your “challenges” and provocations are meaningless because you yourself are worthless. You are a cancer. I cannot fathom that your repulsive personality has not earned you thousands upon thousands of merciless beatings worthless shit-for-life loser fuckheads like you deserve, you meaningless pile of shit.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  117. Levi – What are you wearing right now?

    daleyrocks (d9ec17)

  118. daley – I’m guessing little French maid outfit or full-on old school Frederick’s of Hollywood lingerie get up with the garter belts. Maybe a furry costume.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

None of that is hyperbole, none of it is over-the-top. It is what is happening today, in the world, thanks to your guy, you Bush-person, you. He only cares about himself, about his ‘legacy.’ You don’t start torturing people and you don’t send the military on an impossible suicide mission if you have respect for the things that I listed. You don’t flood the airwaves with politically-motivated assumptions and guesswork in the run-up to a war if you respect those things. You certainly don’t threaten to veto a bill that gives college money to the poor bastards you’re pointlessly sending to the desert to get shot at if you have any respect for the military, nor do you offer hollow little gestures that you can’t even follow through with like giving up golf to show solidarity with ‘some mom.’

So yeah, keep yelling at me. I’ll be ready to talk if you find the time to grow some balls.

    Levi (76ef55)

  120. “I’ll be ready to talk if you find the time to grow some balls.”
Dude I’ll kick your ass eight ways to Sunday you worthless little pussy.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  121. “an impossible suicide mission”
Brilliant. Wow and you’re not Secretary of Defense? Shocking.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  122. “You certainly don’t threaten to veto a bill that gives college money to the poor bastards you’re pointlessly sending to the desert”
After all there couldn’t possibly be any substantive argument or reasoning behind why Bush might find this piece of legislation worthy of a veto.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  123. You sonny, have no life experience or education to give you enough credibility worth engaging and your continued conduct here, the argument by discredited assertion, reemphasizes that every day

If anyone is running a credibility deficit here, it’s you, Republican. I don’t know if you’ve caught this in between hyperventilating about Jeremiah Wright and flag pins, but everybody hates Republicans. You guys have had 8 years to do whatever you wanted, and now you’re a toxic, un-electable brand. People aren’t identifying as Republicans, people aren’t turning out to vote at Republican primaries the way Democrats are, significant majorities disagree with your central policy of the Iraq war, they say we’re on the wrong track, and they say they disapprove of George Bush more than any other modern President. You’ve accomplished nothing on the domestic front, Bush will be leaving the next President with a weak dollar, a weakened economy, unheard of gas prices, and an entangled military in a no-win situation, and I have the credibility problem?

    Yeah right.

    Levi (76ef55)

  124. “You certainly don’t threaten to veto a bill that gives college money to the poor bastards you’re pointlessly sending to the desert”
After all there couldn’t possibly be any substantive argument or reasoning behind why Bush might find this piece of legislation worthy of a veto.

See, instead of saying that, why don’t you actually put forth the substantive argument or the reasoning? I know what it is already, and it’s just as weak and pathetic as the reasoning behind everything else Bush does, but I think we’d all have a lot more fun if you presented it and then I shot it all full of holes.

    Levi (76ef55)

  125. #120
Dude I’ll kick your ass eight ways to Sunday you worthless little pussy.
That kind of language has no place here. It is disgusting and offensive. We can still afford to show some class even when we disagree. Thats what adults do.

    love2008 (5189d2)

  126. “an impossible suicide mission”
Brilliant. Wow and you’re not Secretary of Defense? Shocking.

That’s exactly what it is. We’ve got our military milling around in a backwater of a country waiting around to be shot at. The goal is to do that long enough, apparently, that democracy somehow springs to life. That makes sense to you? You think that’s a battle plan worth spending billions and trillions of dollars upon?

    Levi (76ef55)

  127. “I’ll be ready to talk if you find the time to grow some balls.”
Dude I’ll kick your ass eight ways to Sunday you worthless little pussy.

Right, right. You could kick my ass, sure.

Now that that’s settled, maybe you could sum up the nerve to try beating me in an argument?

    Levi (76ef55)

  128. Apologies to love2008.
#124 – Okay Levi, you pointless, sexless loser. See I can sneak a loaded term like “pointless” into a statement and weasel away, too. Pot meet kettle. Could it possibly have anything to do with millions of dollars of add-ons that have absolutely nothing to do with military matters like home heating relief and wildfire fighting? The fact that your precious Democrats, you know the brand that EVERYONE is buying with their sub-Bush approval numbers in Congress, have said little if anything of the full extent of what they intend to tack onto this piece of legislation? But simple-minded useless dolts like you act like you give a shit about the well-being of the military by latching right onto the cookie that your leaders put out to you so that you’ll yap like the half-retarded turd that you are about “denying college money to soldiers” as if you give a crap about the military.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  129. Yep that’s all they’re doing. Just milling around.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  130. “The goal is to do that long enough, apparently, that democracy somehow springs to life.”
Because no political progress has been made whatsoever of course. Quagmire! Quagmire! My god you are such a dickless clown.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  131. “you’ll yap like the half-retarded turd that you are”

    – Jackass Klompus

Turds don’t yap. Also, it’s impossible for a turd to be retarded. Also, in case it wasn’t already abundantly clear to everyone on this blog, you’re a moron. Finally, in response to your inevitable confusion: No, I’m not Levi.

    Leviticus (22eefa)

  132. jack klompus, something seems to be eating you. i can imagine sweat flying from your brow as you feverishly type and hit “enter”, secure in your belief that you’re fighting the enemies of america on patterico.com. does real life fall a little short of satisfying you? is obscene choler your default demeanor when you’re with your friends, your family, your co-workers? are you getting as much out of your relationships as you want? maybe there’s something in your medicine cabinet that would calm you down a little and enhance your well-being.

    assistant devil's advocate (ff7f04)

  133. To Leviticus and ada – Yes, yes, deep breaths, yoga, and self-reflection (perhaps self-medicating later). I apologize for clogging up this thread with idle, vulgar rants. In retrospect I have come to realize that I have reduced to myself to worse than anything I have accused Levi of being. Civility is supposed to be the underlying foundation of discourse on the internet and I realize that I have violated this tenet which anyone who believes that they have an opinion worth airing should adhere to. Short fuses lead to shorter lives. To both of you, I extend a heartfelt mea culpa and will make a profound effort to not indulge in the all-to-easy refuge of profanity and name-calling.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  134. Yeah… jack, cut it out.

We got on Levi about talking like that, and it isn’t cool for you to do it either. Before Patterico sees this, I suggest you cut it out.

    Scott Jacobs (fa5e57)

  135. Jack Klompus,

I’m glad you said you will stop cursing, because I was ready to come in and start issuing threats. I’m happy to see I don’t have to do that.

Levi is abrasive and merits less politeness than the usual commenter due to his insulting manner, but there’s a line, and it was crossed. Let’s all stay on the correct side of it, for the benefit of readers who don’t want to read that nonsense.

    Patterico (dd14f9)

  136. Levi – Yes sonny, it is you who has the credibility problem. Bush is not running for reelection as has been pointed out to you repeatedly. Try to remember that.

How about backing up some of the points you made in your comment 112 with specific examples for a change Levi. Give me some specific examples where Bush has shown no respect for the:

    military

    the taxpayers

    foreigners

    the Constitution

basic human rights, whatever that means

    the rule of law

Explain to me how he has repeatedly slammed the military into a wall and show me some examples of tantrums he has thrown when people have corrected him. You say he has discarded every shred of credibility and American values and principles and our role as leaders of the free world, Levi. What is your evidence for that assertion?

Remember, Levi, you claim to be here to back up your arguments, so go to it. Claiming “everyone knows it” is not back up.

    What have you got Cupcake?

Every shred of credibility, every American value and principle, our very role as leaders of the free world has been discarded by this moron you people voted for so he can kill people in the desert, to look ‘tough.’ Nothing guides him but stubbornness and blind faith, and he’s only in it for himself. Try looking in a mirror before you start talking about ‘playgrounds of destiny.’

  137. Rhat last paragraph was from little man’s post and should have been deleted.

  138. everybody hates Republicans

We’ve got our military milling around in a backwater of a country waiting around to be shot at.

Levi is a fountain of idiocy today.

  139. Levi is a fountain of idiocy every day.

Fixed that for ya, buddy… 🙂

    Scott Jacobs (fa5e57)

  140. Scott – Today’s drivel even goes beyond what he normally does. Everyone hates Republicans. Not just disagrees with some of their positions. Hates them. George Bush is destroying the military in a petulent fit because someone disagreed with him. The whole milling around in a quagmire is a good one too.

    JD (75f5c3)

  141. And I forgot to direct my apology to Patterico himself. I sincerely regret polluting the comments with profane rants. I highly respect your work as an attorney and as a blogger and I do not wish to demean the quality of the opinion and dialog on your site by engaging in gutter level taunts and insults. Whatever my opinion of the views and personality of those with whom I disagree, I have forgotten the importance of taking the high road and remaining civil. In the anarchic swirl of views and opinions on the internet, it is very easy to hide behind a pseudonym and a keyboard and rail against imagined adversaries. The level to which I allowed myself to sink is embarrassing and uncalled for and not becoming of an intelligent forum of opinion. And so, to the readers and posters who have had to trudge through the muck of my profanity, and especially to Patterico, I again offer my sincere apologies.

    Jack Klompus (cf3660)

  142. JD: have you not heard? Here in the bay area, we are so filled with hatred for Republicans that we’re shipping them off to concentration camps in Santa Cruz.

    aphrael (e0cdc9)

  143. Jack Klompus,

Apology accepted (the part that was directed at me, anyway). I shouldn’t have called you a moron. Sorry about that.
I really don’t understand why Levi’s posts seem to bug people so much.

    Leviticus (22eefa)

  144. Maybe he was seeing ghosts. Or zombies.

    Michael Ejercito (49cf93)

  145. aphrael – But you hate me. Levi told me so.

I used to live in Monterey. Santa Cruz was always fun to visit.

    JD (5f0e11)

  146. JD: I lived in Santa Cruz from 1991-2003. It’s no longer home, but I still have a certain nostalgia for the place.

    aphrael (e0cdc9)

  147. Fun town. The pier always reminds me of the movie The Lost Boys (great flick).

    JD (75f5c3)

  148. There’s a sequel to the lost boys coming out this summer.

My friends and I will be going to Santa Cruz to see it.

    aphrael (e0cdc9)

  149. aphrael – Monterey was God’s playground. Santa Cruz was more like Sodom, or that other place.

    JD (75f5c3)

  150. Levi – Yoo hoo. I asked you some questions. Come out, come out, wherever you are.
