Change We Can Believe In

Barack Obama quit wearing his U.S. flag lapel pin in October 2007 because:

“You know, the truth is that right after 9/11, I had a pin,” Obama said. “Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest.

“Instead,” he said, “I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.”

Fast forward to May 2008 in which Obama faces an uphill battle in conservative states and is inching closer to being his Party’s nominee in the general election. ABC News notes that Obama has worn his flag lapel pin for two straight days:

A rather prominent flag pin is on Obama’s lapel, for the second straight day. Here’s guessing he won’t lose it until after the general election.”

  1. Judgment to lead too, don’t forget that vapid slogan.

  2. The vapidity is thick enough to slice. Check out this from rotating header on Obama’s site:

“I’m asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington…I’m asking you to believe in yours…”

Oooooh…A thrill just went up my leg (j/k). Cue the “Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey” music.

    Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey
is both timeless and priceless, but it has to be the Official Site. And it is very Obama-like.

  4. It’s all part of the “Fooling the Bitter Clingers” strategy.

  5. Instead,” he said, “I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.

    Entry in Obama’s diary, May 12, 2008:
Since my words have failed to convince these bitter, clingy, god-fearing, gun-toting racists that I love America, I’ve been forced to resort to wearing this tacky 57-star pin again in a last-ditch effort to fool the rubes. (Reminder: I still need to decide which advisor to blame and throw under the bus in the event this transparent ploy doesn’t work.)

  6. #5 Shad: Oh, I think he’s been quite effective in communicating what he thinks will “make this country great,” and I think it eloquent testimony on his patriotism.

I just don’t think he realizes what exactly that message will do for many voters.

  7. Those damn flag pins. Where are they anyway? I am gonna stick them on my freaking skin if that will get me some more blue collar votes…ouch!

  8. But he still declines to say the Pledge of Allegiance.

    Thank you for your time.

You sound like one of them already. And..(hush tone) I dont think they will notice who you dont vote for. Sorry.

Just shows how mean-spirited and racist you are. Most Americans are not nasty neo-cons/Rethuglicans. Don’t you know that Obama is the Messiah and will heal our racial wounds? C’mon man, Barry and Michelle are photogenic, successful and won’t play the old washington gotcha game. There will be fairness in the tax code so that the rich corporations and wealthy capitalists start to squeal when squeezed properly. Barry’s ability to win hearts of Hamas shows we need not be at odds with Islamofascists. I’m sure that B. Hussein will bring an end to endless Palistinean conflict. Barry doesn’t need the Joo vote anyway. Check out Huffington Post where “reporter” Sam Stein scopes all that out.
And CNN hasd Ruben Navarrette Jr. asserting that not voting for Barack Obama is racism. Saw both stories over at little green footballs.
Israel’s wishes are insignificant in the fullness of time and it is only democratic that hundreds of millions of Arabs no longer be stymied by a few million Jews.
I see that Independents are wise to the Obama bashing and now are evenly split between Mr. O and McCain. The elitest charges will not hold up over time. \
Now let me go puke. I really think the media intends to guarantee that the dems win the propaganda war. Hillary has more standing to continue her fight for the nomination than Fatboy Kennedy ever did in ’80. Sure feels like the sheeple are supposed to be led by media elites- thus Obama and McCain as choices.

  14. You can blame Obama for cowtowing to the shallow, superficial bullshit required of him by a dimbulb electorate, or you can blame that same electorate for its inability to separate substance from window dressing. I guess we know which side you guys fall on.

And, for the record, I think Obama is just another politician. But this straw-grasping, nit-picking minutiae is getting really annoying…

    Leviticus (ddb415)

  15. Ooooooooo, we’ve annoyed Leviticus by questioning the Obama messiah.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  16. Is Leviticus the same as Levi?

    love2008 (d2a57f)

  17. No, love2008, there is a difference. Sometimes greater than other times …

    How so?

    love2008 (d2a57f)

  19. love2008, well the lack of profanity is one major difference.

    SPQR (26be8b)

  20. oh. Right. That was a big thing that was missing. So Leviticus is Dr Jackal and Levi, Mr Hyde. Mmmm. Kinda miss the Hyde side…

  21. love2008: please visit my site. For $19.99 we have Barry Obama voodoo dolls, complete with American flag pins to stick in his eyes.

No, you’ve annoyed me by giving a free pass to the morons who gobble this shit up like Homer Simpson at a Chili Cook-Off.

Go after Obama all you like; I don’t care. Just don’t pretend that this is somehow a legitimate issue.

  23. I can see why you would dislike us pointing out his blatant pandering.

  24. I went to Target this morning. My charge was $11.41. I gave the cashier a twenty, a dollar, two quarters, and a penny. He gave me back a ten and a dime. Now, that’s change I can believe in.

    nk (572685)

  25. You’re lucky nk. Whenever I do stuff like that, I get black/confused stares from the cashier…

    Scott Jacobs (fa5e57)

  26. Yes, it is so bad that they can’t even think through that all they have to do is count what you’ve given them, and enter it as “amount tendered”.
On the few occassions that they follow the process, it is neat to sometimes see the light-bulb come on when they realize what you are trying to do.
Let’s face it, basic arithmetic just isn’t taught in our great public school system.
Heaven help us if the power ever goes away, and we have to operate out of “cigar” boxes in a cash-only society.

  27. You know, I have a lapel pin that has TWO flags. now _that_ is sure to impress th electorate.

    Sean D (d0532e)

  28. #27…
Which two flags would they be?
