The Bin Ladens

According to a new book about the Bin Ladens, eldest brother Salem wanted to buy America:

“The Arab millionaire is charming but determined. He has made a bet to persuade four young Christian women from four different Western countries to become his wives simultaneously in accordance with the Islamic law that allows polygamy. The girls are American, British, French and German.

The man making the collective proposal is Salem Bin Laden, eldest brother of the better-known Osama, the al Qaeda terror mastermind. The girls are not streetwalkers or run-of-the-mill gold diggers. They come from “good families.” One is even a trained medical doctor.

And yet: None reject the offer.

After all, the Saudi suitor is offering luxury villas, jewels, and expensive cars. Having won his bet, Salem dismisses the girls. He has proved that, provided you have money, you can buy anyone and anything in the West.

Steve Coll’s marvelous new book, “The Bin Ladens: An Arabian Family in the American Century,” which relates the episode, is presented as a collective biography of the infamous family, some 50 or so sisters and brothers begotten by a single illiterate, poor, one-eyed Yemeni bricklayer, later a Saudi millionaire, from his numerous wives and concubines.”

The book is Steve Coll’s “The Bin Ladens” and it sounds interesting.

Younger brother Osama also has a goal: He wants to bankrupt America.

  1. He has proved that, provided you have money, you can buy anyone and anything in the West.

    Hardly. Apparently the arrogance is a family trait. He convinces one American girl to take her clothes off for money and he thinks he’s proved “you can buy ANYONE.” As smart and worldly as these fools think they are, they sure have narrow imaginations.

  2. Spin Osama style? So does it mean we are winning or not winning? I predict that the “Iraq was the correct decision ” people will say “Winning! Al Kaida has lost in Iraq and OBL is trying to cover up the defeat with this spin! He is obviously desperate and now trying to influence the American people in an election year with his economic spin.” And the “Iraq was the wrong decision” people will say “Not winning! OBL is taunting us because we can’t find him and can’t stamp out Al Kaida in Afganistan, Pakistan, or Iraq”

    His brother? He’s rich, good for him. but the lesson about his bet is wrong. Money can buy people the entire world over, male or female, good families or not. I bet a wealthy and powerful western woman could entice four Muslim men of good family to promise to marry her as well. And the fact that he got the four girls to go for the arrangement and then he didn’t marry them proves that, in addition to being rich, he is also a cad.

    He needs to get together with George Soros;
    they seem to share the same goal.

  4. You can’t bankrupt America. It’s too big and too naturally rich. The current fears about our dollar have been repeated many times. No doubt we aren’t in for the best economy ever by any means, and things are going to get worse for a while, but things will inevitably turn around, up and down over and over. Exports, manufacturing, the dollar has to sink to where those things are more profitable. Our demographics alone give the US a long term positive.

    Now, what kind of a moron doesn’t realize that every culture has its set of idiots, whores, and greedy. Of course they got one person to strip. Seems to say more about their faculties than our society, though I’m not always happy with our society either.

  8. Sounds like Salem was doing similar to what SATAN did in the book of Job; trying to prove that anyone would curse God to his face if things got bad enough for him. The big diff: Satan tried to get the world’s most righteous man to turn on the Almighty, while Salem just threw money and sparkling things at spoiled girls who grew up with a distorted idea of wealth.

    As Winston Churchill supposedly quipped, “We’ve established what kind of woman you are. Now, we’re just haggling over price.”
