Another Obama Adviser in the News (Updated)

An unfortunate Obama adviser tried to go “off the record” after she called Hillary Clinton a monster:

“An adviser to Barack Obama called Hillary Clinton a “monster” during an interview with the Scottish newspaper The Scotsman.

In what the newspaper described as an “unguarded moment,” Obama foreign policy adviser Samantha Power said Clinton was stopping at nothing to catch up to Obama in the Democratic race.

“She is a monster, too — that is off the record — she is stooping to anything,” Power, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, told the newspaper.

In saying it was “off the record,” Power tried to withdraw her remark, but the newspaper explained at the bottom of its story that the interview with Power, who was promoting her book, was established as “on the record” in advance. The newspaper wrote that it was “too late” for her to retract her comment.

Power also told the newspaper that Clinton was appealing to low-income voters by trying to suggest Obama would endanger their jobs. “The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive,” she said.”

I’m sure it’s no fun for a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist to make news rather than report it.

All in all, it was not a great day for Obama advisers.

UPDATE 3/7/2008: Obama adviser Samantha Power apologized for her remarks about Hillary Clinton and resigned from the Obama campaign.

I wonder if her resignation was because of the monster comment or because of her contemporaneous remarks that Obama would have trouble fulfilling his promise to pull out of Iraq?

  1. Powers is a former journalist, but now she’s a politician’s hack. But given her previous experience, there’s no excuse for her not remembering that you can’t retroactively take something off the record.

  2. I think its kinda nice that someone, even if it was incidental, spoke the oft thought and unspoken truth!

  3. Samantha is a full on Hamas lovin’ UN globalist.

  4. Seems like she’s always trying to disavow her stupid statements:

Yet it would be difficult to find a more arrogant foreign policy proposal than the one his (Obama’s) key foreign policy adviser Samantha Power spoke favorably of in 2002, namely inserting a large military force into Israel and its territories for the purpose of imposing a Palestinian state. The arrogance (and stupidity) of this concept is so self-evident that Power now not only disavows it, but purports to find it incomprehensible.

  5. A couple more days like this and we’ll start to hear words like “freefall” and “buyer’s remorse” take over the daily narrative about Obama.

*That* would be much more important to Obama’s chances than any delegate math Plouffe is touting.

  6. Power has more than the pull out against her. She has made statements that endorse the possible genocide in Iraq if we pull out of Iraq and go help Palestine, is well known for her near hate for Israel. Power provides a window into the thinking of Obama, who in 2004 reportedly told Ali Abunimah, founder of Electronic Intifada, “hey, I’m sorry I haven’t said more about Palestine right now, but we are in a tough primary race. I’m hoping when things calm down I can be more up front.”

Get ready to die for Palestine.

We will invade Palestine and aid them in the destruction of Israel.

  7. BARACK OBAMA IS THE ANTICHRIST HILLARY IS BIG SISTER

  8. This woman is a massive cluebat as to why an Obama cabinet is an even bigger reason to fret his victory. I have seen many people claim that Republicans crossing over to vote Hillary are wrong – I think not.
